Week 4 Campbell Memorial VS Brookfield
-
reddevil90Im Not sure about Brookfield yet cause the only thing i know they have some nice looking backs! Campbell coming off a nail biting game with Liberty!
Campbell cant be happy with they play of the defense the last 3 weeks to many big plays allowed by a defense that is so much better then they show. They tackle high and you get beat 90% of the time like that. They need to hit hard and crack a few players. offense a week without Skevo there big threat on offense and wont return this season. Who is gonna step up. i know we have more speed then we showed last week look at the first game speed was all over the place and it was not just Skevo. The best way devils to honer Skevo is to step up and win with authority and hit like you got a pair. Offense needs to find some way to hold onto the ball cause i see to many players holding the ball untucked and outstretched! Cant do that i cant believe the coach has not got threw to the kids yet that its not acceptable to hold the ball like that.
With that said Campbell should have no problem with Brookfield but after last week what team will show up last years team or this years? -
BigDean1Brookfield is now an independent, and is a former member of the AAC-Blue Tier. They are 1-2 this season, and are coming off a 34-27 double overtime loss to Jefferson Area. Brookfield's victory came in week two vs. Western Reserve Academy (not Berlin Center Western Reserve). Brookfield returns QB Jeremy Quinlan, along with running backs Joe Kirila and Dennis Sulick. They also have a big back in Mike Johnson, who is 6-2, 230. They have good size up front. They like to run the football. Although they do not have the athletes, speed, or depth that Campbell Memorial has, the Red Devils should not take Brookfield lightly. Campbell needs to come out on Friday as an inspired football team, not flat and uninspired like they did vs. Liberty. Skevo is without a doubt a big loss for the Red Devils, although they have more depth at the skill position than many teams in the area. Dedicate the rest of the season to Skevo. But it's time for eveyone to pick up their game a notch on offense and defense. Play a solid four quarters. Show what you are made of for the entire game, not just when the game is on the line like last week. Stick it to them.
-
oldschoolreddevWe were very fortunate to win last week. We got better as far as points allowed & we forcing turnover. Wegot worse by turning the ball over and by not playing smart. Why are we fielding Punts inside the 10 yard line? Skevo did it against south range and claxton against liberty. That is football 101! So whomever the special teams coach is he needs to reiterate that.
Injuries are part of the game and Skevo isn't playing. We need others to stand up and make plays. I think that we need to get back to fundamentals this week and keep moving forward. -
cmhs_pridePretty much what they are saying above. This is a good team but would someone explain to me what is with the funeral procession on the sidelines and in the stands in the first half. I could talk to a guy on the opposite side of the field, and he could hear every word I said. If you guys are going to come out to that "Play The Game" song and whatever the hell else you kids listen to these days...then do just that...PLAY THE GAME. You guys are all wound up in the late third qtr. Should be from opening kickoff until the game is over.
And I will say this...as fans we stink. We really do. Its like a damn Cemetary. We are 3-0 and i wouldn't believe it if you told me that after I sat at a game. Wait, yes I would thanks to all the so called Campbell people who have come back now to watch their former alma mater and claim some ownership in its pride. -
soupcitysoldierside note: pj quinn a former campbell student and brother of krystal quinn and ricky quinn both campbell grads...took his services to mooney for a better opportunity...is now currently a junior sittin 3rd on the depth chart. the freshman is the starter. classic case of this idea that if you think your good you go to a catholic school. never heard this nonsense before. have a pair and win with your community...dont tuck your tail and run. unless some unforeseen events pj will blow his high school football career down the drain sitting on the sidelines. never barely playing a down. you cant get those times back...theyre gone forever. karma sucks. take note kids...you can say you wanna go win and sit on the sidelines and never participate or you can man up and do it at home.

Pride you are so so right my friend. last weeks range game i was going crazy and so was my son and brother. But the people around me looked at me like i was disturbing them. Times like that make you really miss Archie the man with the trumpet. daa daa da daaa da daaaaa Charge!!!!!
the student body was the only noise i heard other then a few others. but that about it. hats off to the student that tried to get everyone into the game. its pathetic. -

Wow didn't even know that! Very sad. I'm sure if he was anything close to how athletic his brother was he would be starting on the devils team. I'm not sure if he transferred back to campbell for next years season if he is eligible to play! I thought you had to sit out a season. -
sonnyblackBlowout.
Note: PJ was never at Campbell to begin with. -
soupcitysoldieryou know what i mean sonny...he was supposed to continue his high school career at campbell. his sis will be in the hall of fame and bro played for the devils...he was expected to come to campbell. but chose to take his services to mooney. bottomline is this...he made a mistake which will cost him playing high school football forever. and no he cant come back to campbell and play and i dont think theyd even want him. once a red devil always a red devil. no room for those types here.
-
cmhs_prideAlright fellas here is a question from a guy who has known PJ for a long time and trained him in his younger years. How much of this move was his decision?? Kids that age don't really make the decision to spend $5500 to go to mooney because they want to. I believe the parents do. And no he is not going for free folks. In my opinion he will regret going there because he may have been promised something that has yet to become reality. The starting QB is in the same grade as him. So you will see PJ as a defensive back rather than a QB.
Do I think he should have stayed.... You better believe it. I can't stand when this happens. But no use in crying now fellas. Look at Darius Patton....... Talk about the wrong move.
But here is the reality, PJ and many others leave because they don't want to deal with a losing program. Watch what happens Now that we are winning!! -
reddevil90I didn't even know the situation. I didn't even know they had a younger brother. IMHO its a pride to have played on the same field as say a brother Father uncle sister or what ever it my be! Mooney has always found a way to get the team they needed to compete year in and out. Most of there state championships are thanks to the area's best and brightest stars. A chance of a state championship and recognition is so tempting to parents and kids. I'm just glad we have a team that is 3-0 and has a shot at a conference championship for the first time in 16 or 17 years. wow its been a long time since Campbell can say they have a team with a good chance for that. Thanks for the Info on Brookfield BigDean! So from what i gather they can compete with Campbell for the most part. One more thing Look At struthers this year! They are putting up a fight with teams this year. They keep getting better each week. This is gonna be fun last game this year! What game is everyone looking forward to seeing The Devils play this year. For me there are two. Salem and as always Struthers.
-
soupcitysoldierit was pjs decision. also i agree darius made a big mistake, polands down big time this year. also darius doesnt see any playing time on the basketball court, which is his favorite sport. coach doesnt like his style of play. they dogged him all year long last year. sad situation with pj...but if you dont wanna be here...we dont want you.

Brookfield will not be able to compete with Campbell Memorial, UNLESS Campbell turns the ball over...........often. Lately, that has become far too commonplace. Reduce the turnovers fellas. Campbell has much more speed, skill, and depth than Brookfield has. One thing I am saying is Brookfield does have a decent QB who started last year as a freshman, two good running backs (one whom averaged nearly 7 yards a carry last season), and a big fella who is lined up in the backfield in short yardage situations. For all I know this big fella I speak of may be lining up at tight end when he isn't in the backfield. Campbell has not shown that they can stop the run consistently yet. I need to see that. Devils, don't take ANY TEAM. Stick them.
lightly. -
sonnyblackBigdean,
I thought I read that Brookfields QB was lost before the season started, if you find out otherwise, post it. I agree with you guys, PJ made a huge mistake just like Darius. How bout this scenario: move Ja'les to Skevo's old position (he doesn't have the straight away speed of Zembillas, but he can cut on a dime and "finishes" runs); then you could alternate Ray #7, and Smith #25 at TB. More options and flexibility. -
soupcitysoldieri agree sonny we should try jales out at the slot a little bit...test it out and see what happens

sonnyblack, unless The Vindy was wrong in listing Quinlan as the Brookfield QB in their game vs. Jefferson Area, he did play. Kirila and Denny Sulick were listed as running backs. The big kid is #44 Johnson, listed 6-2, 230 in the two preseason magazines I have. I like your recommendation regarding getting Shawn Ray and Charles Smith onto the field and into the mix. P.J. Quinn played last Friday for Mooney vs. St. Edward in a mop up role, the final offensive series. I wonder what is parents are thinking now? -
sonnyblackBigdean,
I found the article, it was senior RB Joe Quinlan that was injured, the article (back in august) said he would most likely be back for the Campbell game. -
reddevil90I agree with using #7 and 25! I don't understand why they have not tried it yet? We Might see it more this week with a weaker team to try it out with! I think the coach was playing it safe last week with a stronger Liberty team. He might have thought he could play smash mouth football with liberty's defense. It almost backfired on us! Stick with the bread and butter of our team! Spread offense and speed. #7 reminds me of a Patton/walker! Speed and Power runner. He looked like a kid that would bust you up if you try to tackle him high! 25 is just plain fast and can cut almost on a dime. 25 also has good field vision from what i have seen! If Campbell can limit and stop the turn overs and the defense stops the run there is absolutely no reason to think this Campbell team cant go all the way. This team is got good size speed power and IMHO the best QB in the area. Skevo would have made this team just unstoppable on offense. But they have the depth that still makes them unstoppable. The only thing in the devils way this year are themselves.
-
reddevil90It would have been Nice to see a Patton and Quinn back out on the field in a devil's uni! But it was not meant to be. A lot of the reason is they didn't believe in the coaches and the team! And if Patton would have been on this team last year and Quinn it would have probably made a bigger difference in W/L!! But it was not meant to be. And i think they made a decision on there was nobody going to bring back devil football to a power it had before. But Hey Poland Has a win this year and Quinn got to play a down or two!!! And Darius well he stuck it to us that year! But you have to remember Campbell football was not on the news other then for friday night scores! And I blame the coaches and staff that we had. I mean come on we had nothing going for us period! I didn't at the time have no hope So i think Darius thought he needed to showcase his talent someplace before his career was over. But i have not followed him after he left Campbell for Mooney! I know he did a good job there but did he get into collage or what is he doing now?

soupcitysoldierquick question...i was too young to remember...but how good was yianni koulianos back in his day...just curious. wanna hear from some campbell huddlers that watched him play

Yianni was one of the best linemen ever to play for Campbell Memorial. He left it all on the field in every game he played. -
cmhs_prideSoupcity,
Yanni Koulianos was indeed one of if not THE best Linemen to ever put on the uniform. Now I say that not knowing a few things. One, I have no idea how good Nick Makridis was. I have no idea how good Walt Vrabel was. I have no idea how good James Cardwell was. I have no idea how good Al Gerlick was. I have no idea how good Lou Konya was....and the list of former players from former eras goes on. So he may be or he may not be the best. But I put him right there. Rich Randall, Deluca, Anthony Wright, Toby Walker, pretty much all deserve honors. The entire line on the 89' team. Yanni sits right in their company. He flat out cleared lanes like a bull dozer. I watched him all three years. Yes I may be biased because I was also friends with him. But I am calling it straight up here. He did his job and then some. That is putting it mildly. Just my opinion.
As far as PJ goes...listen...did he want to go...yep. Did he have the final say. No he did not and if his parents would have told him he was staying put, then he would be at Campbell. It was a bad decision. Plain and simple. Same with Darius. I hear the story of why he went to Poland and you know what, what the hell ever is all I can say.
Sonny, that would be a very good idea, and wow is this the week to try it out. I guess we will just have to wait and see. If for no other reason, they are both back next year and what a one two punch they would be with that big experienced line in front of them. I see J'Ales at QB next year.
reddevil90, who is Darius that left and went to Mooney that you are asking about?? Do you mean Darel Johnson/ Koulianos? He is one of the starting wideouts for the University of Iowa. I believe he led the team in receptions a year ago. -
sonnyblackI graduated with Yianni, and he's still one of my closest friends. Yianni started both ways from his sophomore year on. His motor was always running, and he played both sides of the line with a "nasty" attitude. He went on to start all four years at Mercyhurst college, and was a preseason D3 All-American selection his senior year. I nominated him for this years Hall of Fame Class, but unfortunately he didn't receive enough votes this time around.
-
BigDean1
Well I say just keep on nominating him. It has to happen sooner than later. It better. Sonny, Joe Quinlan is I believe the younger brother of QB Jeremy Quinlan, perhaps even his twin brother. Both are sophomores. It looks like we are going to be blessed with a fourth straight week of great football weather. Maybe this will be the week the Red Devils open up the playbook a bit more. Pride, I forgot to mention how nice it was to finally meet your little munchkin. What a great little boy. Bring him again for more good luck.sonnyblack;484198 wrote:I graduated with Yianni, and he's still one of my closest friends. Yianni started both ways from his sophomore year on. reddevil90Yeah Pride I meant Darel johnson. I got crossed up writing that.
