Steubenville Big Red Vs McKeesport Tigers

war_admiralseabee570,
This is not directed towards you but towards the McKeesport alumni and boosters/fans.
Clairton, South Allegheny, Jeannette to name a few reasons I would have hired him. What experience did Reno have before being hired at big red or for that matter when certain members of the board that wanted him fired yrs back. lol -

Might I suggest re-reading her reasons for saying that? -
CamomanMcKeesport is not very good, another easy win for steubenville
-
war_admiralI seen her post. And no I don't need to re-read her post for her reasons. I stated my reasons in my reply.
Maybe you GoChiefs should re-read them....PAST CHAMPIONSHIPS, PAST GAMES WITH BIGGER OHIO schools is (EARNED NOT UNEARNED hype) then a post that imply other "gratuitous reasons" I'm tired of posters on this site and others saying my Best friend,my best friends cousin or my baby's daddy's friends cousins uncle spoke to the AD, coach. Or my friend sent me film of this team etc.
Have your opinion on a team. That's fine, but don't try to make it look like we are hyping a team for no reason at all. McKeesport has earned our respect. -
Darkonwar_admiral;466421 wrote:I think it's funny how big red get's blown up for scheduling out of state teams and teams that are having a "down year" on their schedule. Here we are playing McKeesport, which took one of the better teams in the country (if you rely on the print media) to the wood shed for 3 qtrs and lost in the final minute last year. They play Colerain in the Herbie in 08', which they lose 14-7, in overtime. And we are the ones "hyping up McKeesport and doing it for gratuitous reasons" Know Your Foe CenterBHSFan.
Just like past years when we scheduled Buffalo St. Joseph Collegiate Ny and Akron Buchtel in 05', Youngstown Ursuline and Akron Buchtel in 06',and Canton Central Catholic in 07', Columbus Bishop Watterson and Poland in 08' and with Massillon and Woodland Hills Pa. in 09'.
The big red nation heard all the reasons why their schedule was soft. They play teams which are down...you mean like Massillon or Buchtel? Which reached the State Semi's the year we played them. Or teams like CCC, Poland that reached the playoffs. How Inkster was going to be a practice game as well and be undisciplined, not conditioned "city team" that start fights.... yep,had that one wrong.
Could it just be...I mean maybe, just maybe...I know this could be a long shot here...that big red is good. Has a coaching staff that prepares the team each year, never rebuilds but reloads and beats those teams. Also, I don't see anyone else in the Valley omit (Wheeling Central vs Buchtel 09') for scheduling these types of teams.
What about a team like Ursuline? guess we schedule them in a down year...they won state championships both times before we scheduled them.
So get together at your buckeye 8 hater meetings and figure out the next hater-excuse for why the mighty, mighty Big Red continues to roll year after year.

Why the attack on the Buckeye 8? Yes early in the sites existance there was some banter but lately it has been instigated by who?
Things have been civil on this forum with very few Buckeye 8 posters. Maybe run off or turned off by posts such as these.
I'm a Buckeye 8 fan and still you see me in support of Big Red. I understand both sides. Some of you should try and do the same. -
ThinthickbigredThe Big Red haters make me laugh . ..First of all I love playing alot of out of state teams . Its fun it gets us publicity all over . I love it . The WPIAL always has a team in the national rankings every year . Id be willing to bet Mckeesport has been nationally ranked . They have won big school state titles . Football is big in western PA. Ever watch the Fedco zone ? I have no idea what this team has this year but judging by what I saw last year ,I was impressed . This is a very larg school with alot of tradition . I know people who will always say Big Red only scheduled this team because its a down year for them . Heck they said that about Massillon last year and that team was one game shy of the state finals. Never do these Big Red haters admitt that Its Big Red that is good . We play a very tough schedule and if we are successful this season the computer points will proove this . RRR!!!!!!!!!!! I hope we give the WPIAL another smackdown and I want to read about this in the Pittsburgh papers and watch it on the Pittsburgh channels

instigated by who? She made the statement in her post. But your trying to spin it like I attacked her. She's from a Buckeye 8 school... Bellaire!!!! We are Defenders Of The Crimson & Black. What it's okay for her to take a shot at big red supporters? All this thread was about was for posters to get info about McKeesport and she takes a shot at WHAT WE ARE DOING & HOW WE ARE DOING IT on this thread by saying we are "hyping up McKeesport and doing it for gratuitous reasons" Yeah I took the first poke at the Buckeye 8.
This thread was civil till that uncivil statement. But right I started the attack. Just look the other way about her post.
RRR -
ManO'WarYou'd think someone that follows Bellaire would have a lot more to worry about than how much hype McKeesport Pa. gets. They just got rolled by a single A West Virginia team for christs sake!
-
DarkonShe gave her reasons for the comment. She had talked with people from McKeesport that had whatched the BR Inkster game.
You gave your rebuttal. Then attack a conference and now you go after her and the school she supports.
Nice. -
ManO'WarIt just gets sickening how every team that Big Red beats isn't that good. Like in 05 when we beat Buchtel convincingly, all we heard on JJ's is how "horrible" they were (but no team in this valley would have came within 4 TD's of them, like Wheeling Central found out last year). Then low and behold Buchtel wins Region 9 and faces Big Red in the semis.
Last year we heard that Massillon was down, but what do you know...the Tigers were Region 2 champions!
And Woodland Hills was the worst Pa. team last year at the Rally...but went on to beat PCC not once but TWICE! And not only won the WPIAL AAAA, but came within a whisper of the Pa state title game.
I could go on and on, but it would be nice for the local yocals to just once admit that Big Red beat a good team, instead of trying to down play it or make excuses for them....especially when the teams around here are not exactly powerhouses or are playing powerhouses. It's like Troy State telling Alabama that they don't play anyone. -
DarkonI know nothing about McKeesport. Only what I get off the internet. It sounds to me that they have a new coach and a completly different system. The learning curve has to hurt them. Especially at the biggining of the season.
I did have some knowledge of Inkster and thought they could give Big Red problems and even beat them.
Well Big red put on a clinic. I don't believe anyone will be able to convince me that Big Red is not that good.
You read the posts on alot of sites and all successful programs get that (you don't play anyone). Especially a lower division school. -
ManO'WarAll I know is that I saw Mckeesport play last year and they are big and athletic, and they have two MAJOR D1 players this year.
They had a scrimmage the other day, but I don't know how they did.
But they are a large school, with a great history, good facilities, and a talent base. That alone makes them dangerous. -
war_admiralHer post started it all...but lets forget that and tell me why I'm wrong for attacking the Buckeye 8. Spin it Darkon. It was an unprovoked statement towards a team I support. Just give her a pass. I was asking for it right, by posting information which was for "gratuitous reasons" CHATTER (info) for the upcoming game between McKeesport.

No I don't think anyone deserves a pass. I thought your rebuttal to her comment did well in countering her claim.
Why are you wrong? OK I'll bite. Why should you? This adds nothing. Creates more crap and less and less information and pushes would be posters away.JMO.
Confused about the spin comment. -

Confused about the spin comment.
Then why not talk to her about making unprovoked post on my school. Instead you blame me for defending school colors. See, this happens more and more. People look the other way when sly comments like hers, get posted and not brought into light. They then go onto be known as facts. But that's JMO. -
war_admiralBack to what this thread was about, the game between Big Red and McKeesport
From the McKeesport Daily News
When Eddie Stockett was playing in the McKeesport Little Tigers youth football program 10 years ago, one of his coaches had a premonition about the then-5-year-old quarterback.
"One of the coaches told me, 'You know, in the future you might be passing,'" said Stockett, who will be a sophomore at McKeesport Area High School this school year. "So we started (throwing) when I was younger. I guess it caught up to me."
When McKeesport opens its 2010 football season against perennial Ohio power Steubenville in the eight-team "Rally at the Wolvarena" showcase on Sept. 4, Stockett is slated be the starting quarterback in Jim Ward's first game as the Tigers' coach.
The 15-year-old Stockett will be smack in the middle of a change in offensive philosophy at McKeesport Area, precipitated by George Smith's resignation last winter after 28 seasons at the helm of the program.
Under Ward and new offensive coordinator B.J. Pugh, the Tigers have adopted a pro-style, multiple-set offense that will see McKeesport throw the football with regularity.
For the better part of the past two decades under Smith, the Tigers used a flexbone triple-option system that produced one of the most prolific running attacks in the WPIAL.
"I think about it," Stockett said of the change in strategy. "I think it's a good change. I'm ready to come out here and just throw the ball. No one's going to be expecting it. So I'm just going to be ready to come out passing."
While Smith's departure stirred much controversy about the prospect of McKeesport adopting a passing attack, this season may prove to be not much different from the first decade of Smith's tenure with the Tigers.
For much of the 1980s, the Tigers employed Veer and Wing-T formations in a pro-style offense that produced a balanced running and passing attack.
In 1991, offensive assistant Jamie Eckels brought the wishbone option offense to McKeesport. Before the 1997 season, the Tigers switched to the flexbone.
From 1998 through 2007, McKeesport's offense featured a quarterback who rushed for 1,000 yards, but who very rarely passed the ball.
Over the past two seasons, quarterback Ty-Meer Brown, now playing in the University of Connecticut's defensive backfield, accrued 1,489 yards and 27 touchdowns on the ground.
In 2009, Brown completed just 13 of 29 passes for 298 yards and seven touchdowns. In his first year as the Tigers starting quarterback in 2008, Brown passed for 180 yards and four scores.
It was an offensive formula that helped McKeesport win WPIAL and PIAA Class AAAA championships in 1994 and 2005.
"That was their foundation in everything they did," Pugh said. "You have to give them credit. They had a lot of success doing it. There's nothing wrong with it and it was very impressive."
But with Stockett's emergence as a viable passing option during preseason training camp, Pugh and the new McKeesport coaching staff are entering their first season a confident bunch.
"I'll bet he's thanking his lucky stars in so many ways just because of his style of play," Pugh said of Stockett. "But at the same time there's going to be some things we're going to ask him to do that he may not be comfortable with. He's got to adapt."
With a 6-foot-4 frame, McKeesport's new quarterback boasts a big arm that will make him a weapon in the new-look offense along with running back Sam Gooden and wide receiver/tight end Branden Jackson.
Stockett's confidence and intelligence, which has allowed him to pick up the Tigers' new offense quickly, also has set him apart this summer.
"Eddie's done such a great job with every test we've put in front of him," Ward said. "I don't feel like we're starting a sophomore. I feel like we're starting a good quarterback. Probably the only thing he lacks right now is game experience."
And that is something Stockett can't wait to add to his resume.
"I think we should be pretty good," Stockett said. "(We have) good expectations all around. On third down you're not going to see the option anymore. You're going to see us come out in shotgun or something like that. It's going to be pretty cool." -
ThinthickbigredThe person used the word gratuitous........... Why? Was she or he trying to be a smart azz.
Even if this person knows more about Mckeesport than we do ,doesnt mean we are trying to make our selves out to be something that we are not . That team was a playoff team last year and have been very good . I dont care if they go 0-10 this season right now they are 0-0 and if the lady or guy is a Bellaire person ,boy do they got problems I think Steub Central might beat them and they are pretty bad these days. -
snyds113This all sounds like an old episode of L.A.LAW or something.Well don't be so tough on old center cause her avatars are the greatest.Seriously though we all may say things that are taken out of context “unstoppable”or in her case maybe she said the wrong thing and should apologize.Whatever the case BIG RED will have plenty of chances to say they beat a good team this year.In case no.546743 CENTER vs. BIGRED FANS.Just let it go.She is otherwise probably a good person.
-
Thinthickbigredyep I dont really care . The word gratuitous just got me a little confused had to look it up ,and I dont really see how she could use that word . Oh well .It was an insult and I think she was implying that we are making McKeesport out to be some giant . I didnt see anything that resembled that . Its all good anyway .I like arguing for my team . My favorite Big Red hater always comes at me with we are only playing this team or that team because they are down and Reno knows what he is doing and bla bla bla bla and this same person thinks Collaros should have gone to Central and that person should have gone to Central and bla bla bla . This is just my personnel experience now if we can just beat Mooney the next time we play them so that person is not so pleased . Just my personnal experience

I can understand you trying to say she was trying to attack your team, but maybe some Big Red fans need to lighten up a bit. Center has been a poster on this site for a long time, and I have never seen her once post anything negative about Big Red. If she constantly brought down the Steuby program, I could see you getting sensitive about it. But she doesn't. She just voiced an opinion, AND gave reasons as to why she made that opinion. And THEN she even said if she's wrong, she's wrong. I don't see it as an 'attack' on Big Red at all. -
ThinthickbigredIt wasnt an attack on the program It was an insult to the Big Red fans on this thread .
Like I said its all good , but does she really want to stir a hornets nest up . The insult isnt all that big ,but Id say MOW and War Admiral probably know their football a heck of alot more than she does for sure . She could be the wife of an assistant coach on McKeesport and these guys would get the skinny on our opponent better than she could . -
GoChiefsLike I said, if she was someone that constantly put down the program, I could understand your gripe. But she's far from it. She just voiced an opinion. Just b/c someone makes an opinion that goes against Big Red..doesn't make them a 'hater'. Again...maybe some posters need to quit being so sensitive.

FairwoodKingLast year at this time the haters were saying how Woodland Hills was down. And then after we shut them out with a banged-up quarterback, the comments were really negative. WH then won 12 games in a row and made it to the PA finals. The haters also shot down Massillon. They made it to the state semi-finals.
What do the haters know??? -
ManO'WarThe directions are on the website...just click on the Wolverena Stadium pic on the schedule page.
