Suburban Lakes League 2010

Brutus BuckeyeWith track, baseball, and the school year quickly coming to a close the traffic on this site seems to be picking up a little bit and hopefully some people want to talk football.
What are all the teams looking like for the final year of the SLL? Rumor is Eastwood is changing up their O and D. I've heard the new Woodmore coach is well liked and is a refreshing change. Haven’t heard anything about the new coach in Gibsonburg. Lake is supposed to have a lot returning. Don't know much of anything about Elmwood or Otsego. Genoa has lots of skill position's to fill.
Let’s get the football talk rolling… -
Swamp FoxI'm ready although I really haven't been watching anything very carefully as my own season is still going strong, but I'll jump in whenever I can.

bwcomet89Eastwood changing schemes again? Personally I don't think the schemes they've used are bad, I think it's more of that they aren't using the right players the right ways. I mean why did it take over half the season to realize they have an absolute hammer playing fullback? Also letting Rolf run the ball wasn't that great of an idea. Sure he hade a high average, but against low competition. Switching him to TE was good but there had to have been better options at WB.

Genoa , with all that they lost to Graduation, has a lot to prove that they are still the best in this league. -
bwcomet89If Genoa finishes third next season I will buy you any 1 thing on Mellocreme's menu. Your choice. I will also buy your ticket to Lake's playoff game.
-
RocketsfanI will back you up on that one BW. The Comets JV and Freshmen were pretty tough last year and I expect them to be the same this year. Lake and Eastwood have some work to do.
-
TinkertrainThe battle for 2nd between Eastwood and Lake will be pretty interesting this season. Nice to see the lake program recovering and getting back on track.
-
Classyposter581. Genoa and they will win each league game by at least 30
2. Eastwood because they bottomline have better athletes than Lake and lets not forget that Rutherford is a pretty good coach
3. Lake-Should have another strong year and it seems as this program is returning to their form they had at the beginning of the decade
4. Woodmore-This new coach is going to make them a contender in this conference and the NBC for years to come
5. Elmwood
6. Otsego
7. Gibsonburg -
TinkertrainWhy is everyone so excited about Woodmore? I suppose I just don't see it unless you guy's are picking them to be " The best of the rest" this season.
-
Classyposter58It's this coach. I'm very optimistic because of his background and the fact that our coach came from a very similar background is enjoying a ton of success. Being an assistant under Cocke and then Inselmann is a pretty good combo and if can come even close to as good as his former bosses he is gonna make the Wildcats an SLL and NBC power
-
bwcomet89Woodmore has some talent and with this new coach, they will be able to keep the talent they have. That is why I picked them 4th, but yes also because they look more promising than Elmwood, Gibsonburg, and Otsego.

I have a hard time picturing woodmore as a NBC power and really dont expect them to stay in the NBC for that long. They will get tired pretty quickly of Fostoria kicking the snot out of them in addition to having Eastwood and Genoa clobbering them. I expect Rossford to rebound into a solid program in 2-3 years as well.Classyposter58 wrote: It's this coach. bwcomet89Woodmore used to be a SLL power ten years ago and is bigger than Elmwood. So if they can turn it around with this new coach they can be just as successful as Elmwood was, which is a pretty good spot to be. If this coach can build a program, Woodmore can contend. If he doesn't, I believe Woodmore will have to wait 10 years to leave the NBC.

lhs2ndbasewhich athletes at Eastwood are 'bottomline' better than the ones at Lake classyposter?? If you ask me Id put Lakes skill players up against anyone in the league when it comes to athleticism.
bw-are the schools officially members of the league. I can just see Woodmore having cold feet about this league because they have a better option imo with the taac. They will be the red headed stepchild of the league in just about every sport, its just the way it is. -
bwcomet89All the schools that are to be in this new league are locked into the NBC. Scheduling is likely being configured already. I believe when a school joins a league they have to be a member for at least ten years before they can leave. I remember reading that during the initial discussions about SLL disbandment.(I could really use Village Idiot right now lol) There may be loopholes for new leagues for whatever reason, but the way I interpreted it is they are bound to this league for at least ten years. I thought their better option was the TAAC as well, but from all the articles and insider discussion, I had the impression that they wanted this new league as much as anyone else.
-
sjmvsfscs08I've always thought it was two years. I heard if the Catholics + Whitmer/Clay bolt from the City League, Fremont Ross would have to wait a year or so because of their contract.
The buzz with the few TAAC people I've talked to said the expect Woodmore to the TAAC in a few years. In my opinion they'd knock off the Northwood dynasty rather quickly. They'd need to be D-V for it to be a wise decision though. -

Ha o come on Eastwood has won more all around SLL's than anyone in the conference. Can anyone really remember the last time Eastwood did not the All-Sports Award because it has been over a decade I believelhs2ndbase wrote: which athletes at Eastwood are 'bottomline' better than the ones at Lake classyposter?? Schools leaving a conference need to give the league a two year notification before they can leave, but once they join the league they have to stay there for at least 10 years. This prevents schools from bouncing around every few years to new leagues to fit where they are athletically. I'm sure Northwood would be ok with Woodmore joining the TAAC as it would bring in competition and make the TAAC an 8 team league for sports like football, eliminating the hassle of finding a game during league play.sjmvsfscs08 wrote: I've always thought it was two years. Off topic, but I'm curious. Where would the Catholics, Clay, and Whitmer go if they left the CL? Start a new league with Findlay, Napoleon or something like that? -
sjmvsfscs08I don't think we want to hijack the thread, but I believe it's St. Francis/St. Johns/Central Catholic/Whitmer/Clay/Fremont Ross/Findlay/Lima Senior that has been mentioned. Essentially they relegate the sinking ship known as the USS Toledo Public Schools to its fate.
Also, with Gibsonburg joining the TAAC, that will make it eight. Cardinal Stritch/Toledo Christian/Danbury/Northwood/Ottawa Hills/Edon/Hilltop + Gibsonburg. Adding Woodmore makes it nine. Of course, I would hope they add two and simply drop Hilltop and Edon.
Now, for the SLL. Is any team really going to come close to Genoa? I don't see it happening. Weren't the JV and freshmen outstanding? -
bwcomet89It was not my intent to hijack, just curious. Yeah and you're right the taac does have 8. My mistake. Back to this league though, Genoa will not be the most talented team in the SLL, but they are the hardest working and it will probably win the league for them.
-
clickclickboomGenoa will win this year. and they don't have to worry about skill positions for a long long time. they have a stable of running backs all the way through the 7th and 8th grades
-
sjmvsfscs08So Lake will or won't have a team in the fall? I heard the kids will be sent to Northwood, Eastwood, and Genoa for the next year. I had already heard some coaches from Northwood talking about how some good athletes were going to be transferring in. Is this true? What's the situation?
