Lakers at Bobcats

  • ZombieKiller
I'm surprised no one has started a topic for this game.

Currently the Bobcats are beating 91-73.

Lakers are shooting 35% from the field at 18% from 3-point range. Kobe is 9-21 with 23 points.

Bobcats are tough at home, but SUCK on the road..

I'm glad to see the Lakers lose though, it basically gives us a 4 game lead over them for homecourt. (hopefully it matters this year)

Hate to be that guy, but both the Cavs and Lakers were down 20 at one point tonight--both against teams they shouldn't be down 20 to.

    One leader goes for 26 (9/21, 0/4 3's, 8/9 FT), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 turnovers, 0 steals, 0 blocks.
    His team loses by 15.
    One leader goes for 40 (16/27, 3/7 3's, 5/6 FT), 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 turnovers, 3 steals, 2 blocks.
    His team wins by 7.

The night Kobe had is a pretty good night, so don't get me wrong, I'm not here to talk shit on him. Just sayin', this is a prime example of why this argument is dead.

The Bobcats are going to be a pain in the ass for anyone in the playoffs. They probably won't win a series, but they will push someone pretty good.
  • SQ_Crazies
If the Bobcats stay in the 8 spot, I'm telling you right now that the Cavs will beat them in 4 games. 5 IF they get lucky in one. You don't have to believe me now, but watch it happen.

If they were good enough to even push the Cavs, they'd be good enough to pull themselves out of the basement of the East because there isn't much separating 5-8.
  • SQ_Crazies
    They aren't even .500.
  • wes_mantooth
I don't argue that, but I just have a hunch that the Cavs will beat them in 5, but each win will be pretty close.

I don't think they will lay down like the other teams that the Cavs have played in the 1st round the last couple of years.
  • SQ_Crazies
I mean the Wizards didn't ever lay down--the always played us tough in the regular season too then we spanked them in the playoffs.
  • ytownfootball
Charlotte played the Cavs hot when we played them 49 & 54% from the field and 47% from three in both. They won't be able to keep that clip up in a series.
  • wes_mantooth
Yeah, it is just a hunch. Everything was so easy for the Cavs last year, until the Orlando series. It can't be that easy two years in a row.....can it?...lol
  • SQ_Crazies
Yes, it can and will be.
  • wes_mantooth
    I hope you are right.

i don't want it to be...i want this team challenged

Nice article about Kobe being drafted by the Charlotte Hornets and traded to the Lakers. Almost didnt go down. Vlade Divac had to be talked into going to Charlotte instead of retiring or going to Yugoslavia. Hornets needed a big man but wanted to take Steve Nash. Nets almost took Kobe at 8 but Jerry West talked Calipari out of taking him, and Kobe refused to play anywhere but LA.

With the 16th pick, the Hornets already had their eye on a guard – Santa Clara's Steve Nash, who had worked out with the team shortly before the draft. The Hornets had invited Bryant for a workout, but he cancelled the visit. The team had scouted Bryant twice but wanted a private workout to get a better feel for his potential.

"He wouldn't work out with us and that bothered us," Bass said. "We couldn't meet him. His agent was trying to aim him to the Lakers and they threatened us."

The Hornets got the message that if they drafted Bryant, he wouldn't play in Charlotte.

They weren't the only team to be warned off taking Bryant for their own.

The New Jersey Nets, coached by John Calipari, considered Bryant with the eighth pick but chose Villanova's Kerry Kittles after hearing a similar message.

The Philadelphia 76ers had seen Bryant play regularly but instead used the No. 1 pick to draft point guard Allen Iverson from Georgetown. Twelve teams passed on Bryant before the Hornets took him.
One day later, with Divac still stalling the trade, Tellem(Bryant's agent)was more direct when asked if Bryant might wind up playing for the Hornets.

"That is an impossibility. There are no ifs. It would not happen. He is going to be a Laker and that's the only team he's playing for," Tellem said.

The Cavs were one of the teams that passed on Kobe. In hindsight, I bet there are a lot of people who are glad they did now.

What? Charlotte is just like the Magic last year. We obviously just don't match up.

Charlotte will hit a buzzer beater to win gome 1 and then win in OT in game 4 on a few fluke plays.

And then the free huddle pundits will claim that Charlotte was 7-3 against us...clearly better than us....and that we need to bring in a few players to stop Steven Jackson.

Seeing as how Orlando was a top 3 seed in the East last season, I'm not sure how this comparison matters? Charlotte has no mismatches like the mix of Howard/Lewis/Hedo had on us last season... Rememember, it took us a miracle LeBron 3 in game 2 to avoid going down 3-0.

LOL, that's like comparing apples to elephants.

Kobe was a doucebag even before starting in the NBA.

This is a serious question...are you actually a Cleveland fan? If so, you are the MOST negative fan I've ever heard. Remind me of Randy Quaid's character in Major League 2

LOL. You get a pass because you are not a regular here. My entire post is a satire laced post poking fun at all the douchebags here that are in fact truly negative fans.

I am a huge Cavalier fan. What set this whole thing off was in fact my reaction to those that constantly complain regarding this team...over the past 2 years.

And obviously, my clear "tongue-in-cheek" post flew over your head. LTrain's too.

Charlotte has a very small chance of beating the Cavs. Even a less chance as the Magic had last year.

Some day...you people will come to terms with the fact that upsets happen...and when they do....it does not make the team that does the upsetting, a "better team".

    It doesn't.

Orlando was not the better team last year. Just as the Bobcats are not the better team this year. If a miracle happened and the Bobcats did win, I would just pop some more popcorn and watch the huddle "experts' demand another dismantling of the team...

But ya know what Square...funny how you followed my logic before...but now all of a sudden, you don't.

Last year's team was the best Cleveland sports team in over 45 years....with the only possible exception being the 95 Indians.

Both teams were mesmerizingly good, and seasons that are forever etched in the memory banks.

Unfortunately, both of those teams were not able to close the deal.

Cavs would be about a 15 to 1 favorite over the Bobcats. Last year, the Cavs were a 6 to 1 favorite over the Magic.

Upsets of these magnitides are extremely rare.
  • hoops23
Wedgie, best regular season record doesn't equate to best team.

If a team kicks your ass 7 out of 10 times, it's time to concede the fact.

Upsets don't happen in a 7 game series. I'm sorry, but the better team prevails by winning 4 times out of 7. It's not a one and done scenario where the inferior team may get that lucky hot streak or few bounces that go their way to pull off an upset..

Last season, our bench wasn't that great, especially compared to this years bench. Ultimately, what we say on Free Huddle doesn't mean shit to Danny Ferry. He doesn't read this stuff.. He obviously felt the need to upgrade. If you don't think we didn't have a height discrepancy last season, then I don't know what to tell ya..
