Facemask Grab Missed???

  • Prescott
I'm not a Packer fan, so don't look at this as whining.

I thought I saw Adams grab Rodgers facemask after the ball was knocked loose.Did anybody else see this??
  • Manhattan Buckeye
I saw it, definitely could have been called but the ball was already out.
  • Ironman92
ball was already loose/gone and the QB is treated differently once he doesn't have the ball it seems
  • Prescott
I know the ball was gone, but a facemask is a facemask, right?
  • Nate
I don't think they called it because #1 it was after the guy stripped the ball and then hit the face mask. #2 It was obviously unintentional because he was going for the ball. #3 It's an OT game, you don't call a petty call like that in such a big game. #4 If that was a face mask, people would start carrying the ball up by their face so if its gets knocked out, they could possible get a facemask call out of it.

It isn't a petty call, the dude grabbed his face mask and held on.

    petty
  • SQ_Crazies
Not petty. I love how people say always pull the "you can't make that call in that situation" line. That's BS, you have to make that call no matter what the situation is--it's a penalty no matter when it happens. It should have been called. I'm not a Packers fan either so I don't really care, but it certainly should have been called. No doubt they just missed it, it isn't one of those "situational no calls", a facemask isn't something they take lightly--there are serious injuries that could happen there.

    Wooooooo!!! :)

Flag should have been thrown. The Packers had their choice of A. Losing the game on the play or B. accepting the penalty and having a first down on the 33 yard line.

A facemask penalty is a face mask penalty. The refs blew it. What a shame.

Actually, had the facemask been called, it STILL would have been Arizona ball, they just wouldn't have gotten the TD as a result of the play..

I hate when people bitch about missed calls though. Shit happens. Get over it.

Footwedge always has his facts wrong.

Shoulda called the helmet-to-helmet hit on the play previous. Sigh.
  • thedynasty1998
I would hate for them to call it, but a penalty is a penalty. The refs missed this one.

First of all, nobody is whining.

Are you sure about your ruling? I don't know what the ruling would have been. The ball was out ,but had Arizona established possession? What rule applies here?
  • SQ_Crazies
I was under the impression that it would have been Arizona's ball, they just obviously would have called back the TD.
  • Prescott
What did you see or what rule would yield that result?
  • SQ_Crazies
Um, the ball was out and it happened during the time when no one had possession. A facemask is a facemask no matter when it happens, once they took possession it would have been called back from that spot. That's how I would think that would be ruled anyways.

My guess (had the facemask been called) would have been fumble, facemask, TD 15 yards on the kickoff?

cuz play doesn't stop for that penalty.

No the TD would have been called back. Play doesn't stop on a holding call either but the TD gets called back. There was no kickoff in this situation either, it was OT.

    Yeah on the OT (Duh)

Incorrect. The NFL and NCAA do not have 5 yard facemask fouls, it has to be a personal foul, twisting or pulling of the facemask.

Incorrect, fouls on the defense on loose ball plays are enforced from the previous spot.

The defender did not contact the QB helmet with his helmet on the previous play. The front of his helmet did contact the QB below the helmet and above the chest. The defender did not lower or lead with the helmet.

If the foul occurred while Arizona had possession then you would have been correct.
