Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs central champs! Cleveland Indians series thread

To have championship defense, Bruce must play better. He had several misplays last night. He is generally good, but seems to lose focus from time to time. He should have been charged with 2 errors on the same play. Twice he failed to cleanly field bloopers that fell in along the RF line and then he failed to call off the 2nd baseman on a routine pop-up and made him have a much more difficult play that he barely made.

Heard this morning that Encarnacion got a nice little $150k (throw in) bonus for the Tribe reaching 2 million in attendance (hasn't happened since 2008). With the Tribe becoming a more consistent winner, and Lebron's uncertain future here in Cleveland, I think we are going to see a shift next season in where fans allocate their sports entertainment money and that 2 million figure will go up.

He was LIGHT OUT last postseason, so maybe you all have horrible memories. But his stats are right in line from his dominant self the last 5 years. Some years better in certain categories and some years worse...all in all, negligible difference for almost 5 years across the board.
Sorry, but you're wrong--he himself said he's been having trouble locating his curveball the last few weeks, and that the defense has 'saved his hiney more than a few times'.

anyway, hope it's just an anomaly that Joe Smith struggled mightily last night--I think he really complements our bullpen with his unorthodox arm angle and variance in speeds, and can be an asset in the post season...and 26 out of 27...wow

I think a lot of fans will look at this as Lebron's "lame duck" year and won't want to go see him as he's heading out the door (again). Some could have the opposite mindset thinking "I want to see him before he leaves (assuming he does go again)" but I bet, with the Tribe winning, that consumers may shift their entertainment dollars towards the Tribe. I'm thankful that he came back, and brought the city a ring, but won't be pissed (like I was the first time) if he leaves.

Same. It's just awful to me.

Cody Allen's stats are nearly identical to last year in terms of ERA and runs allowed. His K/9 is up to 12 as opposed to 11.5. Walks per 9 down to 3 from 3.6 and is actually a career best.

Only major difference is hits per 9. Last year he gave up 5.4 hits per 9. This year is 7.4 but he's walking less people so his WHIP is pretty much the same.

I think some of you guys probably only watch Indians games, which is totally fine. But go watch/follow some other games. Closers blow saves every night...all over the league. It's a hard job and we have one of the very best and most consistent. We should all be talking about how #blessed we are to have the back end of our bullpen...including Cody Allen.

I mentioned before that I thought their stats and advanced stats were good, but they both don't look as sharp (probably the hits per inning like you said, and thinking a set up man and closer should never give up a run, which i admit is crazy). And shit, I watch almost every single Indians game, I don't have time to follow or watch anyone else but I totally understand what you're saying. Allen is so good that it seems like every night should be gravy, and obviously it is absurd to ask him to be perfect.

well, if someone uses a # with the word 'blessed', then I guess we should feel that way, but.....when said closer says he's missing his spots and not feeling his pitches the way he has/should, I'll go with said closer.

The # is to indicate some form of sarcasm because nobody should truly feel blessed by God because their team has a particular player. We are talking about baseball, after all.

Do you ever watch darts on TV? Those guys are amazing. When they miss their spots, they still hit the triple 20 but just in a way where it leaves less room for the next dart.

The analogy: Cody Allen is so good at his craft that he can feel like he's missing his spots and still strikeout 12 people and allow 2.5 runs every 9 innings he pitches...which is pretty damn good.

Craig Kimbrel has blown 4 saves this year. So has Cody Allen. Kimbrel has a couple more saves because his team didn't bludgeon the entire league for 3.5 weeks.

Thank you, and I apologize for not recognizing the #sarcasm....and again, by his OWN admission, Cody Allen isn't pitching to his OWN standards. As I stated, we need him if we're going anywhere this post season, and if he finds it, we're golden.

Salazar not looking stellar. Tito said if he wasn't pitching well he wasn't going to give him a ton of innings so that he can go into the Pen instead of 4 days rest. We shall see. 1-0 Angels. The way the lineup was today and Salazar pitching, it's almost like Tito didn't care if they won or lost.

ENCARNACION ties it 1-1 with a bomb.
Salazar looked much better in the 2nd inning
