Mad Bum doing good things on opening day.
  • Ironman92
Made it 5 1/3 then gave up 3 ER to tie it up.

Bumgarner just went deep for his 2nd HR....this a no doubter.
  • Laley23
I MadBum was on an AL team, I would bat him 5th and DH when not pitching.

Ha ha Mark Melancon. Screw you

Schwarber with a hit in his first AB. Somewhere, Joe Buck spontaneously came.

Why the Melancon hate? Shut down the Reds too many times while with the Pirates?

At the ASG in Cincinnati my then 11 year old son (in AS gear, not Reds gear) stood along the front row with hundreds of others before the HR Derby. Players passed by mostly just waving and a few stopped a signed some. Melancon stopped in the section near my son and signed two autographs for fans wearing Pirates jerseys and my son is right beside them...when he gets to my kid he says "sorry kid I'm just signing a few for the pirates fans I see" ....fair enough we both thought. He walks about 10 steps down towards the dugout and signs 5-10 more autographs and none of them were in Pirates gear and a few were in other teams gear.

Fuck him...then during pre game of ASG (like an hour before game) they put some big video up of his work with kids around MLB....we just shook our heads.

Then in ASG he gave up GW HR to Brian Dozier ha ha. I'm not quick to doucheify a person...but he's a douche.

At the same time, maybe once he signed 1 autograph, he owes the entire stadium one? Sounds like he should've signed for a kid (he's Mark Melancon, not Mike Trout), but still.

Don't be ridiculous. He didn't owe anyone an autograph, nor did he need to lie to a kid and do it like he did. Just smile or walk away without mention and mosey down a bit farther. No biggee. It was cool he was signing for his own fans.

Ah, gotcha; when I saw that, I was thinking you got him and Grilli confused since they were both Pirates closers and Grilli definitely came off as a douche, lol.

Wow, the Giants led the majors in blown saves last year, spend $62m/4, and opening day...

Isn't Votto known for the same douchieness?

At least your son will always have that story about how Melacon can go fuck himself. He will probably never want an autograph from division rivals again, which is good. Fuck division rivals.

Votto definitely loves trolling opposing fans.

The Phillies fan fake out needs the full video to be fully appreciated. The fist pump at the end is great.

To add to the fun, between Pittsburgh and Washington last year, Melancon was 47-51 in save opportunities, so SF might just be cursed.

Well, to be fair, Melancon has gotten off to slow starts before. Can't remember if it was last year or 2015, but Pirate bloggers were writing his obituary in April one of those years because he got rocked a couple times and his velocity was down 2-3 MPH. Then he got it together in May and was about untouchable for the next couple months.

He's a tough one to judge:

    1. Peripheral/advanced stats say he's overrated.
    2. Actual in-game stats say he's one of the best.
    3. My eyes say he's either benefited from a lot of good luck the past couple years or he is one of those bulldog types who gets in trouble and then bears down to get outs. Because he was in that Wickman class of ALWAYS giving up a baserunner or two before getting out of the inning and nabbing the save.
  • Ironman92
Piscotty having no luck...gets drilled in elbow to get to first base steals 2nd and gets drilled on the elbow by the throw and gets drilled in the helmet while scoring and it takes him down hard

Possibly the craziest thing I've ever seen in baseball. I don't even see how a ball covered in pine tar could do this.

Cardinals haters are screaming cheating and pine tar....but a 90 mph baseball that skids in the dirt and sticks to a chest protector...even as he jumps up and dances around looking for it. You could take his protector covered in pine tar and ball covered in pine tar and do that 1,000 times and it wouldn't stick while doing what he did.

I hate the Cardinals but prefer to chalk this one up to bring an incredibly unbelievable blooper.
