Guy I know who scouts for an MLB team says the Cubs system is loaded and can easily overcome losing those guys and for what they get to solidify their chances at a WS win this year It was a no brainerSnotBubbles;1804310 wrote:Pleased to have Chapman in blue pinstripes, but man...that was a hefty price tag.
Gleyber Torres is 19, considered the Cubs top prospect. Average power, good fielder. He was blocked on the infield anyway with Russell and Baez, even 3 years from now. So I get it. Look at his numbers, they're far from impressive offensively.
McKinney is another one who was a top prospect (acquired with Russell in trade with the A's). He has not progressed through the minors, mainly again because he is blocked.
Warren is a MLB relief pitcher with a lot of upside. He was struggling a little bit the last month or so, but he was young and cost controlled.
If Chapman doesn't re-sign with the Cubs or agree to an extension, I will be a little more upset. If they win the WS, I won't give 2 fucks. -
Ironman92The Cubs drought makes the Browns drought seem minor...those guys are blocked and Cubs have to go for it. The Cubs have to go for it more than any other team.
-
thavoiceand why not go for it?
Have to admit it though, it was a little more "fun" when the Curse of the Bambino was still the talk of Boston, and still is fun to bring up the Curse of the Billie Goat.....so for that reason I hope the Cubs don't win it all.

As long as that drought continues for at least the rest of my life, I'll be chill!Ironman92;1804314 wrote:The Cubs drought makes the Browns drought seem minor...those guys are blocked and Cubs have to go for it. The Cubs have to go for it more than any other team. -
thavoiceIt wont. With RGIII, a great new coach, and Gordon coming back that franchise is ready to explode and will be a winner very, very soon. How convenient for the Browns that Gordon gets to come back for the Pats game. Some teams get all the breaks.

thavoiceWord is that the reds are open to unloading Hamilton...
-
Azubuike24DeSclafani too. Sounds like a decent chance he gets moved.
-
thavoiceYea, apparently the Rangers are interested. Reds would want one of their power guys but with Fielder going under the knife that may make them think twice about giving up a power bat going forward.
Another arm that teams are asking about is Cingrani, but with the dearth of LH relievers on the 40 man they don't expect him to go unless they get an offer they cannot refuse...which I think is unlikely.

Ironman92If they unload Billy and then get him back...fine. Giving up on Billy right now would be hideous IMO. He might be the most difficult player in MLB to measure. We've gotten a glimpse of what happens when he gets going.

friendfromlowryHow long has Chapman been playing in America? He still can't have an interview in English about baseball?

Either can Cuetofriendfromlowry;1804745 wrote:How long has Chapman been playing in America? He still can't have an interview in English about baseball?
It drives me crazy.
They did an interview about and with Carlos Correa with his Dad. His Dad told reporter that Carlos insisted at age 8 to learn English because if he was going to play in MLB in America he needed to speak English.

So frustrating watching your favorite players and then they interview after the game and some guy no one wants to hear from does all of the talking in the awkward interviews. -

Even though I love him Ichiro is the worst... come on man you've been in the MLB for 15 years now!Mulva;1804760 wrote:Not as long as Bartolo. -
thavoiceHow often does that happen? Possible, but not likely.

thavoiceThose guys know English much better than they let on. I think the translator is just a crutch for them and there to make sure they don't say something stupid!

slingshot4everNice to watch my White Sox beat up on the cross town Cubs so far....
