2016 Browns Season Thread

Can't imagine the Browns trade for him without the expectation that they will try to pay him.

I can't imagine him signing with the Browns unless the offer is substantially higher than the market for him. He's going to get paid regardless and I'd rather get paid on a winning team than the Browns.

For all you 90's kids out there...I feel like this is Banks being forced to go an play with the Ducks. I'd be super not pumped about going from probable ring to this circus we have here. (Probably shouldn't have been demanding Vonn Miller $ then I know)

Adam Banks also went on to win a District 5 title and the gold medal at the Goodwill Games. Good omen for Cleveland?

Sure, the Browns have a lot of picks but given how little of these picks we actually convert into relevant NFL player, every pick matters. There's about zero percent chance he signs with the Browns because he's going to want 'Von Miller' type money and the Browns won't pay it. So really the pick boils down to trading a 3rd round pick for a player for 8 games until he leaves at the end of the season.

    Dumb.
They have the cap room to overpay, now if he is the guy to open the bank for that is a diff discussion.
They need to change the culture there and bring in a sure fire talent along with hitting on their draft picks. They will need to overpay for him to come there,no doubt about that, but the browns have ample cap space going forward.

Although GB was a little ahead of the browns at the same point, they made a huge splash to bring in Reggie White. It really opened the eyes around the league. Before that signing in '93, the packers had FIVE winning seasons from 1970-1992 and 1 was a strike shortened I believe.

Draft your QB, over pay for a legit free agent and change that culture. Overpaying for a guy on that team isnt going to hamstring you as all your guys you are drafting and will draft next year have that 4-5 yr rookie scale where they are bargains! Gotta make clev a destination and prove to players they care about winning. Once you do that...great talent will want to stay and FAs will want to sign near market value

They can franchise him next year, then if he doesn't sign he leaves and they get another 3rd round comp pick anyway. It is a net 0 pick basically. The pick they traded this year was a 3rd round comp pick. Not a ton of negatives with this one.

Browns will have to hope every team not just one comes down with measles to make the playoffs though.

I'm with Sleeper here. I don't get the trade unless they are actually going to give him Von Miller type money which I don't see them doing because hes not worth that much.

I like the pickup of Collins. Part of the rebuild has to be mixing in some proven young talent.

You're assuming anyone is willing to pay him that, which (not surprisingly) Sleeper fails to grasp. In what world does he get that, is he even close to Von Miller? LOL no.

Hard to not like it, he's probably our best player on Def now. If we don't resign him, we get a compensatory pick that will prob be a 3rd/4th round pick as well. WIN/WIN

He's not close to Von Miller. I don't want to overpay for a player that the Patriots were willing to cut midway through a potential championship season for a comp 3rd round pick.

Browns v Trinidad and Tobago would be a good game.

Agreed. If the Pats dont want him..there is a reason. Just like years ago with atlanta pitching...if they were wanting to trade for a pitcher of yours, you should keep him. If they were willing to trade you a pitcher, then you dont want em.

So an AGENT puts out there what contract range they're looking for and you assume they're going to get it. LOL

No, I don't think he gets anywhere near that.

I still don't want to overpay for him. Overpaying rarely works out.

I think it's a great trade. The pats don't have the cap space to sign him next year so that's pretty much the reason they traded him. I dk why people are bitching about actually trading for legit talent, which we obviously lack. We have plenty of cap space to pay him, I doubt he even hits the market

There is a long list of FA's who got big pay days to leave and it didnt work out, but I think in the browns spot they should target a FA that is a legit big time "cant miss" sort of guy and try their best to bring him in. Gotta change the culture of guys wanting to come there. They have the cap room..but they should try to bring in a playmaker. Even if it just franchising him.....ya have the cap room and ya arent rolling that $$ over that isnt spent.
  • Azubuike24
As a rule of thumb in NFL FA though, you're going to probably pay at least 25% more than market value for most players. That's just how FA works and how the teams who live on needing FA's to compete, end up usually failing miserably.

Both teams took advantage of the other team's deficiencies here and made a very interesting trade.

Just because you have the space doesn't mean you should entangle yourself with bad deals.

It looks like a dump from the Patriots more than anything. They realized he's not a 3 down LB and not important enough to the team to win a SB so it dumped him for a slightly better comp pick than they would have gotten if they let him walk at the end of the year.

That makes it look worse for the Browns not better; the guy is worth to them ~30 spots in the draft vs. using him to win a Super Bowl.

Except if he walks in FA after the season, they get a comparable draft pick.

Pats gave him up because he sucks.

That's true and why I wouldnt necessarily spend the $$ on this guy to keep him after this year. I was speaking more in general. The browns have a lot of picks, and a ton of cap space. In the past ya maybe had to plan for those top picks taking a shitton of $$ but with the rookie scale even if the browns strike it big next year in the draft they are cost protected for 4-5 years and could very easily add in and overpay on a playmaker for a bit

He won't walk at the end of the year no matter what bc they will just franchise him
