That's what I've been thinking. These guys can't be THAT bad. They were successful at the college level and with other NFL teams. They come to Cleveland and suddenly they forget how to play?Crimson streak;1758692 wrote:At this point I don't think it's a talent problem I think it's a scheme/coaching problem

Kevin Jones, the guy who did the SI piece on the defense was on the bull & fox show.
Basically said in talking to people they take a ton of pride in the scheme because it worked great for the Jets in 2009 & 10. Pettine was D-coordinator, but like Shurmer didn't call the plays really on his own until 2011 because Rex was still making the calls.
Jones then went on to say the rest of the NFL has figured out how to successfully scheme this since then but Pettine/O'Neil have not changed anything. Nothing works forever in the NFL, and if you're doing the same thing in 2015 as you were in 2009 you are getting passed by.
We hear no talk of O'Neil going or Pettine taking over the play calls because O'Neil is running Pettine's (Rex Ryans's) system, and him taking over would change nothing.
The more time that passes Pettine is the one getting exposed. He latched on to Rex Ryan in Baltimore and basically rode him, much as O'Neil has done with Pettine (he played for Pettine's dad and is a friend of the family). They were both basically lackies who got an opportunities they didn't really earn. Pettine's defense since leaving Rex speaks for itself.
He's not a brilliant football mind which is why he's still using an antiquated defense, it's the only system he knows. He has no experience outside of what Ryan taught him, as he was coaching high school football the year before he joined the Ravens and Rex took him under his wing. -
IggyPride00Just saw on the OBR that the Kevin Jones who wrote the SI article everyone is talking about just left his job working for the Cleveland Browns on the website. It was his first article for SI (who he is now a writer for).
Didn't know it was the same guy, but having actually been in the building gives him more credibility than just someone looking in from the outside. -
IggyPride00LaConfora said that Johnny started spiraling again after he was benched for no reason coming off a win so that we could see Josh McCown lead us to a 4-5 win season.
Who didn't see that coming.
Way to go Mike & Ray. -
IggyPride00My prediction for today is that the Browns actually do a good job with the running game until sometime in the 4th quarter when they give up a back breaking huge gain that ruins everything they worked hard on all day.
-
IggyPride00Bowe a healthy scratch again today.
Uncle Ray paid $9 million guaranteed for that bidding against himself. No wonder there are thunderous calls to have him removed. -

Pretty safe bet that he will be gone. Nice 3 and out by the Cle D.IggyPride00;1758849 wrote:No wonder there are thunderous calls to have him removed. -
IggyPride00Is there a less respected coach by his players in the NFL than Mike Pettine?
Every freaking week with the penalties. It never stops. They don't give 2 shits about him, because if they did they wouldn't be doing it. -
IggyPride00Mike has that deer in the headlights look already. Just shameful.
-
IggyPride00I have seen enough.
Make it stop Mike. -
iclfan2McCown loves holding the ball forever.
-
like_thatLOL, I am not even mad.

My fingers, toes and balls are crossed this is true and somehow Johnny Fuckup is involved too.BR1986FB;1758267 wrote:Somebody started some shit about Haden being involved in drug money laundering... -
IggyPride00McCown might have just knocked himself out on that play.
-
iclfan23rd and short and the Browns do the likely thing of giving it to McCown and him doing nothing except running out of bounds and slipping into the wall...Field Goals!! The defense is playing well so far.
-
IggyPride00It's like the irresistible force meeting the immovable object out there as the league's worst offense is taking on the league's worst defense. The Rams have the worst passing game I have ever seen.
Bitonio has slipped tremendously this year. Just completely dominated on that last play and miserably unaware out there. We have enough stupid players, he needs to stop acting like one. -
IggyPride00This is completely unwatchable.
-

On the contrary I find it very entertaining...IggyPride00;1758874 wrote:This is completely unwatchable. -
TiernanWho's the rapper / drug lord on the Cleveburgh sideline with his hat bill turned up like a thugger?
-
IggyPride00Rams are trying their best to give this game to the Browns. Fumbles in the red zone, missed chip shot field goals. Off-sides penalties on 3rd downs to keep drives alive.
Mike needs to find a new line of work if he can't pull this one out. -
IggyPride00These players wouldn't piss on Pettine if he was on fire to put it out they hate him so much.
The complete lack of discipline is astounding. -
FootwedgeWay to go Joe...the most over rated OT in the history of the league.
-
friendfromlowryYou guys look absolutely miserable today.
