Pittsburgh Steelers offseason
-
AutomatikBattle is terrible. I don't see how he could be an upgrade over Sweed. I have a bad feeling that his issues will only last in Pittsburgh. Watch him go somewhere else and breakout like a mofo.
-
NonHis hands are too inconsistent, I think.
He can only catch the ball like half the time it's thrown his way.
I think the Steelers need a 4th WR. It's not a big need but it is one.
I'm not sure what they see in Battle at this point. -
NonRandle El is better than Battle.
I know they probably don't want to bring a guy back but he had 50 catches last year and is still somewhat versatile, which is what they probably like about Battle. -

Agreed. But I don't think they bring Randle El back unless it's a Walmart-type bargain. Plus, they have Logan for returning punts and kicks so they really only "need" ARE as a WR.Non wrote: Randle El is better than Battle.

Still, I think that Battle is better than Sweed. He can't be any worse. -
NonThere have been reports that Leigh Bodden is receiving interest from the Steelers.
But also the Patriots are trying to re-sign him.
I don't put much stock into the rumors unless one of the Steelers beat writers confirms it and I haven't heard that with Bodden. -
Al CaponeA serious question to Steeler fans. Is it time we look into signing a free agent qb? This latest episode is very troubleing for the Steeler organization. The worst case is that he gets jail time. Another scenario would be he getting suspended by the league. From what i'm hearing the cops want him back in Georgia next week for further questioning, plus for dna results. I hope this turns out to be nothing but the front office needs to be prepared. I've heard many stories from friends in Pittsburgh on his behavior towards fans and waitresses etc. Plus the story on Arnold Palmer banning him from his country club because of his behavior. He needs to wake up and quit being stupid!
-
NonI think Dennis Dixon is capable of stepping in. Might take him some games to get comfortable but I like his potential as a No. 2.
-
NonRaiders released Justin Fargas.
I think he'd be a nice pickup and No. 2 to Mendenhall. -

NonI wouldn't even hesitate. He's a good dude, hard-worker, runs hard, decent size at 6'1 and 220
But I'm sure there will be a lot of teams moving fast -

Show respect or GTFO. -
NonSteelers could always sign Batch again. He's an UFA but wants to remain in Pittsburgh and it won't take much to bring him back.
Actually I thought they had Palko but I guess they got rid of him.
They only have Ben and Dixon if they don't re-sign Batch. They'll have to pick up somebody else. -
NonRBs
Rashard Mendenhall
Mewelde Moore
Isaac Redman
Stefan Logan
Frank Summers
Justin Vincent
I like Mendenhall's speed and explosion but I think he's soft. He might have a tough time holding up and staying healthy if he gets a lot of carries. They need to add a workhorse. -
NonWRs
Santonio Holmes
Hines Ward
Mike Wallace
Limas Sweed
Tyler Grisham
Brandon London
Grisham may be an option for No. 4. -
NonThe Steelers can almost expect that Ben will be suspended by commissioner Roger Goodell.
They could be playing with Dixon at QB for the first four games, at least. -
Al CaponeSteelers sign a couple or free agents today. Wr Arnaz Battle from SanFran and Safety Will Allen from Tampa. Typical Steeler move, nothing flashy but guys that can step in and fill a roll. I'm assuming that this means the end of Sweed.
-
Al Capone93.7 the Fan is reporting that the Steelers are interested in Larry Foote again.
-
killer_ewokI actually like the Battle and Allen signings and would LOVE for Larry Foote to be a Steeler again. He wasn't great but he was underrated IMO. Solid player.
-
NonPost-Gazette said they also have reached an agreement with offensive tackle Jonathan Scott, who started eight games for the Bills last year.
Not sure what to make of these signings. Allen hasn't done a whole lot defensively though he's been an outstanding special teams player. Nice opportunity for him to compete and try to be a starter. He's only 27.
Battle is coming off two seasons of doing practically nothing but ever since he came out of college he seemed like a Steeler player and they always knew that. He doesn't have to be a star, just the No. 4 receiver. -
NonSteelers were given three compensatory picks.
They now have 10 picks in the upcoming draft. All late rounders but still...

EnforcerHow Does a team get compensatory picks?
-
NonBased on the number of unrestricted free agents lost vs. signed last year.
Steelers lost three players -- cornerback Bryant McFadden, wide receiver Nate Washington and quarterback Byron Leftwich -- and didn't sign anyone. -
EnforcerAll ok, I see now , Always wondered how teams got them

They did bring him back didn't they?killer_ewok wrote:

NonThey got Randle El back, yeah.
And Arnaz Battle, who should be primarily a special teamer.
Sweed is technically still on the roster. The Steelers have tried to trade him for something, anything but there are no takers.
