Pittsburgh Steelers offseason
-
NonSteelers brought in a lot of receivers and now probably will pick one, if not early than in the middle rounds.
Emmanuel Sanders suddenly looks pretty good. He's 5'11 but has a nice combination of speed and leaping ability. Also can return kicks.
Mardy Gilyard from Cincinnati is similar in style to Santonio Holmes but also might be similar in being a character.
Joe Webb the slash guy from UAB is a good football player and athlete but probably doesn't project as a future starter.
I'm not a big fan of Benn or Bryant. The only player I think they should consider in the first two rounds is Golden Tate. -
Non
Golden Tate
- 5'10 199 lbs.
- 21 years old/turns 22 in August

- As a junior, had 93 receptions, 1496 yards and 15 TDs. He went over 100 yards in nine of 12 games and twice went over 200 yards. As a sophomore, he had a breakout year with 58 receptions, 1,080 yards and 10 TDs.
- Played baseball at Notre Dame his freshman and sophomore years. As a sophomore he hit .329 (73 for 222) with eight doubles, four triples and one home run. Drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 42nd round of the 2007 MLB Amateur Draft. -
killer_ewokI posted this on the Holmes suspension thread....
No doubt that the Steelers have more pressing needs than WR and it's very unlikely that they would opt for one at 18. But a few of us have talked about it before......Tate is very Hines Ward-like. Sure, I'm an ND fan....but other than seeing all of his games in college.....Tate is just a helluva player that I'd take on the Steelers in a heartbeat. Not because he played for ND but because he's a playmaker.
Almost every mock I've seen has him going to the Jets in the late 1st. I truly believe that Tate will be a very good WR in the NFL for years. He makes some incredibly tough catches and he is something special after the catch. He also will break off his route and do all he can to get open when his QB is flushed out of the pocket and we know how Ben holds the ball a little too long at times and runs around looking for somebody to throw to. I think he and Ben would work well together.
I wish the Steelers would pick him but they have greater needs elsewhere and he'll be off the board by the time they're on the clock for their 2nd pick. -
NonEven for being 5'10, he has strong hands and is able to win jump balls. I've seen him catch a lot of those sideline fades.
And then he can go across the middle and maybe even get the ball on some reverses, similar to how they used Ward for awhile. Wallace is a deep threat but they'll need someone else with a little more versatility.
Can they flat out pick a WR at No. 18? I really don't think so. They truly could use a good lineman like Iupati or Pouncey. And they definitely need help at CB in one of the first three rounds.
They never do this but I wonder if they should give up a first or second round pick next year. I would consider it for Tate. Let's say you get Pouncey and Tate. A center to anchor the line for the next decade and another WR like Hines Ward. Might be worth not having one of those high picks next year. -
thavoiceWell holmles is gone.
Huh.
Dont know if it was mentioned in that thread but the rumor is he failed substance abuse test and will miss 4 games? That..and his last year of his contract is prolly why only for a 5th rounder -
bulldog8Now they really could use Tate
-
killer_ewokWell, I don't think the Jets will take Tate with their 1st round pick now......
-
thavoiceword is they are getting leon washington..
steelers were goin to release him if they couldnt find a suitor -
NateRT @MrCaptainBlades: @mortreport Odds Marshall goes to Pittsburgh >> Zero
LOL Even Pittsburgh fans are as hopeful as Browns when it comes into pulling in players. -
thavoicehuh King i saying wash is NOT part of the deal
-
thavoiceAs expected ben will not be charged. The DA had the opp to even charge him with touching someone sexually without their consent and didnt do so either.
-
thavoiceIm all for the steelers suspending ben for a couple of games...
-
Al Capone
I agreethavoice wrote: Im all for the steelers suspending ben for a couple of games... -
NonNot a good time for the Steelers.
But I think their defense will be back on top next season which could ease some of the blow of now not having as strong of a receiving unit and offense. -

Personallly I hope th league doesnt do it and the Rooney's step in and do so.Al Capone wrote:

Not that it matters who does it..but still...I think it sends message if the team does it a lil more than the league.
if that makes sense. -
bulldog8Big Ben definitely deserves to sit a couple games with his recent conduct. If they are going to penalize Holmes for his actions, the same needs to happen to Ben. Should be interesting to see what Goodell decides in their meeting later this week. I have a feeling that even if Goodell lets Ben slide, the Steelers organization may still discipline him. I agree that the defense should be back at top notch which will keep the Steelers in just about every game and even without Ben, I think Dixon proved last year against the Ravens that he can compete and bring another whole element to the game.

NonThe final two college prospects visited the Steelers Monday.
Kind of funny to think about these two visiting the facility on this circus day.
But in any event they were...
Antonio Brown, WR, Central Michigan...5'10, 186...good quickness and agility... the type of smallish receiver that may have trouble physically but can play in the slot and take advantage of mismatches in the middle of the field...returned five kicks for touchdowns in college...often referred to as Santonio Holmes Jr. (just kidding!)
Alex Carrington, DE, Arkansas State...6'5, 285...solid prospect as a 3-4 defensive end...has good size and holds up well against the run -
NonBen will issue a statement in the Steelers press room at 7 p.m.
-
Nonpretty generic statement by Ben
-
thavoice
Yea.....pretty much what i expected......a whole lotta nuthin...espeically before his meeting with Goodall.Non wrote: pretty generic statement by Ben
I look for a more detailed statement after that. -
NonI kind of wonder where is parents are at. You never hear much about them.
He's not a kid but when it gets to be this serious and out of control, I'd think they should be involved with telling him to straighten up. -
thavoiceReed officially signed his 1 yr contract today as he was tendered awhile ago. it was inevitable unless they agreed to a longer dr=eal. His agent says a long term deal is still the goal.
-
jtownclassicsHeard from a Steeler friend of mine that there's a rumor going around that the Steelers have discussed a possible trade of Ben to the Rams for this year's 1st and 2nd round pick. Any of you guys hear or read anything about this?
-
thavoiceSOmeone asked that to Ed bouchette in his chat today and he believes if they did offer that the Rams woudl take it in a heartbeat...but he does nto believe their is any validity to it.
Face it steeler nation...unless he does more shit you can expect BR to be the steelers QB at least till his contract runs out..think it is 5 more seasons.
It really does suck having a dirtbag as a QB. He has a very long road in repairing his image to the steelers nation. The incident in Tahoe I think alot of saw threw that as a woman scorned..but this newest shit just pisses us off. I know ill boo him hte nxt game I go to but that isnt a big deal.
Im hoping he can stay clean....and become the leader of this franchise and stay outta trouble and fuckin G R O W U P
