Cleveland Browns Offseason Talk

  • Eric Taylor
Brady Quinn will be the starter.

    Wallace will be the backup.

    Bye Bye Anderson.
  • ytownfootball
The biggest difference is Wallace knows something of the system, there won't be a learning curve that any other QB has to go through in order to run the O, plus he was had for next to nothing. I am the biggest OSU homer alive, and didn't want T. Smith, but I didn't want Wallace for the same reasons. I'll gladly be wrong and he turns out to be a winner.

I simply thought they were too similar in style for one to be favored over the other, and I brought up Smith only for comparisons sake.
  • Eric Taylor
Now it wouldnt surprise me to see them take a QB in the 2nd round.

If Troy Smith was a Michigan QB, would we still be all over his nuts?

If Troy Smith were a Michigan QB, he'd probably be starting for somebody. tOSU doesn't have the best track record of producing NFL QB's. ;)

If Troy Smith was at UM he wouldn't have won the Heisman nor would he have had a shot at the national title, so no, of course not.

^^^I guess this answers my question. Wheather he comes from OSU or Michigan, he is still the same QB. Let's end the TSmith discussion.

So are there any other talks about bringing in another RB? Thomas Jones or Choice or someone else?
  • royal_k
When Choice was given playing time, he was very productive last year. He averaged 5.5 ypc and in 2 years has a 5.3 ypc average....not too shabby.

There had been talk about Mike Bell from New Orleans.
  • krazie45
I'd consider taking CJ Spiller in the 1st round if Berry is off the board.
  • Eric Taylor
It now appears that Wallace will likely be the starter and that Quinn and Anderson may both be out the door.

I wouldn't be so sure Quinn will be the starter.
  • devil1197
Exactly how did you get Wallace being the starting QB with both Anderson and Quinn being shipped out from that article?

Highly opinionated backed by no substance.

Wallace was brought in for a chance to start. He knows the system and will be able to help the other QB's learn faster.

Nowhere in that article did it state that Wallace would likely be the starter, he will have the same opportunity that any QB on the Browns roster will have.
  • BR1986FB
Grossi is speculating that Wallace would start over what we have because he knows the system.

If Holmgren's goal, like I've heard, is to "win NOW" and he DOESN'T get a starter and we go into this season with these guys as our potential starter, he has failed miserably on what he set out to do. He doesn't see this as a "rebuild" and feels we can make some noise immediately but that's only with a solid, veteran QB.

This is why I feel he's still pushing for a starting QB.
  • Eric Taylor
The substance is that NOBODY else on the roster knows the system that Holmgren wants to run other than Seneca Wallace.

I dont want to see him as the starter either, but it will be the only option they have and that is why Holmgren traded for Wallace.

He will be the starter this year because he knows how to run the system and it would take Quinn too long to make him a viable starter in the West Coast Offense.
  • devil1197
But where can he find a legitimate starting QB without giving up our 1st along with other stuff?

McNabb seems to be the only real option that has popped up and Reid isn't moving on that.
  • devil1197
Any NFL QB, who truly wants to become a starting QB with desire, can learn a system well enough to be a viable option when the system is in place now. They have plenty of time to understand the system before camp starts.
  • BR1986FB
Plus Wallace has a strong arm, can make ALL of the throws and is ACCURATE. Knowing the system gives him that much more of a leg up. Quinn possesses none of those traits. He may learn the system but I doubt he will be able to do the first three.

Wallace knows the system but outside of that I don't see this as anything more than a lateral move.

He sure isn't the staple starting QB that Holmgren is looking for.

Agree completely but he is an upgrade from what we currently have, unfortunately.
  • devil1197
Upgrade in terms of knowing the system. I am not sure he is that much better tools wise than what we have. Hopefully the guys catch on to the system quickly or we find a suitable starting QB.
