Cleveland Browns Offseason Talk

  • big_hits24
So are the Browns going to the draft for some help at DB...specifically someone to fill in for McDonald and I guess a possible Safety, or Free Agency? Or maybe both? Joe Haden or Eric Berry are both considerations but I still am not sure if they will pick Haden at #7 or not, even though a lot of Mock Drafts say that's where he'll land.

How about Troy Smith to the Browns?

Interesting article just found on ESPN.com about possibly sending Corey Williams to the Lions??
If this were to happen this could get really interesting for Cleveland

What do they mean by low draft pick for him?? Browns gave up a 2nd to get him. Hope we acquire at least a 3rd round pick for him.

    ^^^I'll say a 5th or 4th at best
  • buckeyes_woowee
I'm not a fan of that trade. If we trade Rogers too the Browns will be very thin on the dline
  • miller45452003
LOL..Chris Mortensen just tweeted me that Bulger will not be a Brown...AMEN!! He said a likely place is Arizona or Washington.

Browns will get, at best, a 5th for Williams. Yet another of Phil's mistakes gets corrected. The only consolation is that a Detroit 5th is almost a 4th rounder. :D

Browns insiders say this isn't going to happen.

    LMAO...I think it's actually gonna be a 6th...fuckin Savage!!

Because the Ravens would refuse to trade him?

    I haven't followed so I'm just asking.

They just got Flacco at the wrong time from Smith's perspective. He was progressing fine and could be a good starting QB.

Shaun Rogers may be traded as well..

Also looks like the Browns are finalists for Thomas Jones and are expected to be very active in FA and trade talks..

I know all of that has probably already been mentioned, but I'm just putting it out there again.

^^^ I am really not a fan of a 31+ year old RB. We went that route with Lewis and didn't turn out so well for us. I don't see Holmgren doing this unless it's a dirt cheap steal of a contract.

On a side note if you can get enough for Rodgers, I'm all for it. He's just another overaged player that does not fit into the rebuilding process. I'd still love to see him sent to Philly in a deal involving Kolb.

Man, too bad the Browns front office didn't get in on the Antonio Cromartie market because a 3rd round pick for him is a steal even with his issues given his potential. You make a move like that, draft another corner high along the way and suddenly the secondary goes from abysmal to solid overnight.

I hope Holmgren is being active right now because it is going to take a mix of solid drafty picks and established players to help turn this around. I am agnostic about any draft pick after the second round because at that point it becomes enough of a crap shoot it is worth trading some picks away if you can bring in players that aren't over the hill and you know (aren't hoping) can contribute.

Third round there are a lot of good players. There are so many different mock drafts and so forth that by the time the draft comes you have about 80 players who were considered first round caliber in the few months leading up to the draft.

I would agree with not keeping all of the late round picks. That's foolish even for a team that needs a lot because history shows that teams are lucky to hit on even 50 percent of their picks in Rounds 4-7.
  • royal_k
Not a fan of signing jones. We have too many other needs on that side of the ball, and RB is one of our strong positions. QB, WR, and OL is where they should be looking.

Actually if you think about it, in the entire history of the draft, even in recent years when it's been cut to seven rounds, how many teams have had a complete draft where they just loaded up with good players throughout? Maybe only like a handful of times has that happened and we're talking 28-32 teams over a span of 40 years. The Steelers had the draft with four Hall-of-Famers which is great but not really the same. The 49ers and Cowboys each had one where they piled up. It's a rare feat though. Even if you have like 10 picks it would defy the odds to make most of them good picks and load up all in one draft. By the time training camp rolls around, the 5th through 7th round guys are pretty much valued the same as some of the undrafted free agents. I love having a lot of picks but it might be worth it to use a few of the later ones to try and get into the 3rd/4th round or to get a proven player in a trade.

I'm not saying you can't get good players in the 3rd round, but I was just using Cromartie as an example in that he is only 25 years old, and while he hasn't gotten back to the 2007 level, would be a drastic upgrade at DB over anything the Browns have and he is still young.

I just wanted to make the point that I hope Holmgren is open to potential deals of that sort if any others are out there where you are getting proven players who are still young that you know would immediately upgrade the team, but is potentially ignoring over something like not wanting to give up a 3rd round pick.

Not that you can really predict, but I am fairly certain the Jets feel comfortable that the odds are higher that Cromartie will outperform whoever they would draft at that point over the next few years. I just hope the Browns brass is willing to make the same leaps of faith if the situation presents itself.

Yeah true. Cromartie is still young. I'm surprised the Chargers wanted to get rid of him.

Browns have traded Corey Williams to the Lions. There's a discrepancy on whether it's a 2010 pick (5th or 6th) or a 2011 pick (5th that could turn into a 4th).

DT- Justin Bannan is scheduled to meet with the Browns
  • DaBrowns41
I'd still be surprised if we traded Quinn. Even if Holmgren doesn't plan on him starting, Quinn has a VERY salary friendly contract and he wouldn't be too bad to backup.

I still say that Quinn is going to be starting in 2010 for the Browns, despite all of you guys thinking that Marc Bulger (LOL) would be a better option, as well as Troy Smith (LOL).

Thankfully Corey Williams is gone. Savage trading a 2nd for a 43 situational pass rushing UT was absolutely stupid, as well as many other moves.

As for Pool, nobody should be surprised that he wasn't tendered. He can't stay on the field, and he's virtually ineffective when he is on the field. Not a hard decision, IMO.

Well said...and so true. That idiot put us 2-3 years behind schedule. He not only traded for players who didnt help much, he had to add to his blunder by giving high draft choices in some of the deals. If its true that the Browns are aggresively shopping Quinn its a sad thing because of what we gave up to get him. You can just about be ready to call him a BUST! I mean we are looking for a QB and this guy cant take the reigns on the Browns. Sad.:(

ANYTHING is better than Quinn. You must REALLY like losing.

Is the Williams deal a done deal?
  • BR1986FB
Here's a new name to throw into the mix that I hear the Browns may be interested in at QB.....Drew Stanton.
