Steelers offseason thread

Ironman92LeBeau is gone...I wish him the absolute best...even if he goes to another AFC team. 56 straight years of NFL football....HOF player.
Since 2004 his defense has led all of football in points allowed and yardage per game.
I won't be surprised if Troy retires, regardless I'd draft the best CB available and then the best safety available.
The other 5 picks (assuming they have them all) I'd like to see a D-line and LB.....take a QB or a great big raw receiver. -
Ironman92New head DC Is Keith Butler....has been Steelers LB coach the past 12 seasons. Butler and Tomlin were assistants together at Memphis.
LeBeau has been contacted by the Cardinals -
thavoicePretty much figured Butler would be the guy. I just assumed that LeBeau would retire as he has been around forever. Not sure how sound of a decision it would be to hire a 77 yr old DC but Arizona likes former steelers....
I would not be surprised if TP retires as well, but hope he stays and gives it one last go around. The window is closing fast on BR and the defense needs some big time help.
Speculation about Cardale Jones...would you use a 4-5 rounder on him? I think ben realistically has at least 2, and maybe 3-4 solid seasons yet.
I am not an OSU fan per se, but I watch and follow them. Didnt see him against Wisky as I was at the state FB games, the Alabama game he was only around .500 but made some big time throws down the field and in the NC was pretty good. I just love his arm strength and his calmness in the pocket. Now, in the NFL he will have to check down to his short receiver/rb instead of running as often like he does, but that can be an easy fix. -
AutomatikCardale has until tomorrow to declare. People need to realize this and stop discussing it.
I want a corner, safety, running back. -

Just speculation if he does come out and whom steelers fan may like to see drafted. Of course, if he choses to stay then it wont be mentioned again for another year.Automatik;1696271 wrote:Cardale has until tomorrow to declare. People need to realize this and stop discussing it.

Ironman92I would take him in the 5th round if I got who I wanted in 3 of the first 4 rounds. Steelers would be the type of team IMO to draft him.
I would've liked to have seen him without a RB running for 220, 230 and 240 yards and an o-line dominating. But do like his makeup a lot.
I would be more apt after next season as I don't want the future QB drafted when I believe Ben has 2-3 more good years left. -

Yeah, I agree. What I liked was his arm strength and how calm he looked in the pocket and very little wasted motion in his throws.Ironman92;1696320 wrote:I would take him in the 5th round if I got who I wanted in 3 of the first 4 rounds. Steelers would be the type of team IMO to draft him.

The defense needs some big time help. As for backup RB that wont be too difficult to get. I am not even sure they need to draft one as I bet one could be had in free agency and such. -

FootwedgeThe bus has no business being in the HOF. Another Canton ass kissing job for Steeler players.

like_thatI thought Bettis was borderline, and would eventually get in because he played for the steelers(plus got that ring) and the media jerked off to him, but I never imagined he would have been a first ballot HOFer. Getting in over pace and Harrison is a joke.
-
Automatik6th all time rusher. He deserved to get in, but this early is surprising.
Pace should be in though. -
thavoiceYeah, his numbers say he is and it isnt like there are many hard charging RB's around who may easily surpass his mark. He is a likeable guy and that helps for sure.
Remember when some woman and her uncle tried to shake him down for $$$ a number of years ago? -

Yeah Jerome and his whopping 3.9 ypp. HOF my ass. Nothing more than an average running back who managed to stay healthy over a long period of time.GoPens;1702145 wrote:Uh..bitter much? -

Pace as well. Pace not being a HoF is terrible. Top 3 LT to ever play the game IMO. Is the bus even Top 20 RB? lolnolike_that;1702151 wrote:I thought Bettis was borderline, and would eventually get in because he played for the steelers(plus got that ring) and the media jerked off to him, but I never imagined he would have been a first ballot HOFer. Top 6 rushing. All time. Some things just pretty much make it automatic in getting in the HoF.Footwedge;1702319 wrote:Yeah Jerome and his whopping 3.9 ypp. HOF my ass. Nothing more than an average running back who managed to stay healthy over a long period of time.
All other things equal, Pete Rose would be in the HoF, being the hit king and all. He was a pure singles guy. Only hit .303 in his career and isl ike 150th in career avg. -

Ironman92I'm ok with someone in the top 25 range of all-time RB being in the HOF, though I never thought he was anywhere near a HOF before Pittsburgh and still to this day think he is borderline....and ridiculous in before Pace

I know you are too young to remember Walter Payton.....but negs on the "Peyton"Commander of Awesome;1702332 wrote:Pace as well. Pace not being a HoF is terrible. Top 3 LT to ever play the game IMO. Is the bus even Top 20 RB? lolno

Ironman92Bo Jackson played 38 career games and never rushed for a 1,000 or reached 3,000 for his career.....he was fucking awesome and no one like him more than I do, but I can't say he had a better career than Bettis. Similar is Gale Sayers....68 career games 132 in career rushing yards.
I just think you have to play longer than they did...SUCKS those two had career ending injuries. -
Terry_TateDoesn't have high career numbers yet but gotta throw Jamaal Charles in there.

Ironman92Eddie George
Guys with fewer seasons but great George Rogers, Curt Warner, Billy Sims, William Andrews
