Athletes are creatures of habit. Anything that throws off the game day routine CAN have a large effect on the way they play, whether it's a lack of mental toughness or something else.

I know when I played, our coaches HATED game days where we didn't have school because it threw off routine. While it may not seem like a big deal to some, it can have a profoundly negative impact on others.

I don't think the NYC trip, if there was one, had anything to do with that shitfest.
I agree completely. Honestly, college football isn't preparing QB's for the NFL game, IMO. Very few teams run pro style systems anymore, and they wonder why QB success doesn't translate to the NFL game.

Maybe staying out until the late hours of the morning (have no clue if he did this, or not) is part of Manziel's "game day routine" and being in bed by 10pm would throw it off? I have no idea but I doubt a flight to NYC made him play THAT bad. It was like he forgot how to play the game. Believe me, I'm usually one who piles on the Josh Gordon's for the weed smoking, etc and, although I'm not a fan of players staying out late on a game night, I highly doubt a 1.5 flight from NYC made Manziel shit the bed that bad.

Goes back to what I said earlier about the colleges in the "win now" mode who run these spread systems. When we were ripping on Andy Dalton on the other thread, S&L brought up how many shitty QB's that have been drafted over the past 4 drafts. Luck is the only real "keeper", to me. Russell Wilson has adapted well though.

That's bullshit. His game day roommate (bitonio) said Jff was asleep before him. Moving on.

This can't be a serious response can it?

And thanks like that. This story is squashed. Nothing to see here, like most rumors about manziel.

Not to mention most nfl teams have their players report to their hotel by 5ish for team dinner. Not sure how manziel could be in nyc.

Is it that hard to comprehend? Obviously, you must not have been an athlete. Most athletes have game day rituals and routines. Also, notice I said "CAN" have a large effect on the way they play. That doesn't mean it WILL. It boils down to mental toughness. Some players can handle "adversity" and other don't handle it well.

However, like_that pointed out that this conversation is moot.

The only thing that matters was that Manziel was terrible...there are no excuses for how bad he was.

I look for a 12/20 165 yard 1 Int and 35 yards rushing (TD) performance this week.

I agree, his mechanics are atrocious! What on earth has he been "working on" all season!? I mean, I know he's not getting starter's reps during live, but he's still going through drills. My word, how can you expect to be an NFL quarterback throwing off your back foot against NFL defensive backs?

So because you had a routine in high school, manziel was possibly affected because he didn't go through his routine...a routine that you don't even know exists (like someone said, his routing could be to stay out late and not be tucked in bed by 9pm)?

Point is, manziel sucked and he sucked because of how he played football, not what he did the night before.

Good god....do these people have nothing better to do? Never a dull moment, as far as stirring the pot, in C-Town.....

Or could be "hazing" like at times when a team will ignore a guy who hits a homerun.

Could be, and maybe it's just me, but it seems like the media, whether local or national, starts the dumbest shit with regards to Cleveland sports teams.

I think it happens in alot of areas. I used to read every single piece I could about the steelers years ago and there was stupid shit like this as well. They just gotta find something to write about!

    Try being a NY athlete.

Cleveland never got this "treatment" because a) they've always been irrelevant and b) they haven't had a polarizing national figure like Johnny football.

Clevelands always been a "quiet" place to play. Not anymore.

Agreed. A lot of fans, myself included, are already sick of opponent players doing the "money sign" after every Manziel sack or turnover but he brought it on himself. If you're gonna talk the talk, so to speak....

Can't even imagine how brutal it would be in NY.

Lol, I don't understand why you're arguing over hypotheticals? I was simply stating a possibility. The greatest possible reason for Manziel's struggles is that HE IS A ROOKIE IN HIS FIRST START, playing the division leader, and is not comfortable playing from the pocket. This was evident in the lack of sound mechanics/footwork. He sucked, our line sucked, and our defense sucked. Certainly, a game I would like to stop talking about.

My personal opinion? Everything has come easy to Manziel and I think, by his lack of work effort (or so we'd heard), he thought this was going to be just as easy. I think many fans thought the same thing because he "beat Alabama." Big difference....

Hell, listening to the pregame show, the local announcers were making predictions like 250 yards passing, 2 TD's, 50 yards rushing and another TD. It's obviously not as easy as some thought.

    My opinion?

    It was his first start.

    Against the division leader.

and it wasnt like his predecessor was tearing it up either.
  • DB_Tiernan
Although the Browns aren't my team, it was only one game. Give Manziel another few starts before jumping to conclusions. It's not like he's Todd Philcox....right?
  • shook_17
Lol where have footwedge and iggy been?

IQQY has probably been thread banned, again.

FW is interesting, he might've offed himself.

FW is too much of a coward to show his face around here. What a pansy
