Running behind the left side this year? Non-existant. They run to the right which is baffling if JT is such a good run blocker. Because if you look at the talent, one would think they'd run to the side of Thomas/Bitonio over Greco/Schwartz but it sure seems like they run a lot more to the right. As I've said before, JT is a great "finesse/technician" pass blocker but if you need a mauler to pound out a couple of yards, he's not your guy like a Pace, Walter Jones or Ogden.Commander of Awesome;1668621 wrote:Running behind the left sign in 2007 lewis avg more than middle or right side. Nice try though. -
like_thatI could be wrong, but I am pretty sure JT has a positive run block rating on PFF. Not sure how you can classify his run blocking as "sorry."

Wouldn't this logic go against your argument for Bitonio though?BR1986FB;1668623 wrote:Running behind the left side this year? Non-existant. Take it up with Pettine if he's so good. Not trying to be a smartass there but I'm frankly baffled why you have a Pro Bowl LT yet they run opposite of him. When they need to gain short yards, they don't seem to be running it that way.like_that;1668624 wrote:I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure JT has a positive run block rating on PFF. I am baffled too. They should be running behind bitonio and jt.BR1986FB;1668628 wrote:Take it up with Pettine if he's so good. How so? I'm not saying JT isn't a very good to great LT (probably 1st ballot) but I've always thought he's been weak in the running game. People have their personal preferences though. Thomas is a technician. Guys like Pace, Ogden, Jones would just flat out run you over & pancake you. That's not Thomas' game.like_that;1668625 wrote:Wouldn't this logic go against your argument for Bitonio though? -
like_thatlhslep can you give us JT's run blocking grades from PFF?

I am a fan of bitonio, but if you are saying he is better than JT during his rookie season, then they should be running to bitonio's side more often.BR1986FB;1668632 wrote:How so? BTW, i think it was a short bubble wr pass to hawkins/gabriel for a big gain, but bitonio was all the way down the field throwing blocks. It was awesome. -

Unless they think Greco/Schwartz are > Bitonio/JT (as a combined twosome) in the running game. JT is their best pass blocker, no question to me. I think Schwartz is the weak link at pass blocking.like_that;1668635 wrote:I am a fan of bitonio, but if you are saying he is better than JT during his rookie season, then they should be running to bitonio's side more often.

Maybe Schwartz & Grego are better at the run game than Bitonio/JT? Usually, your "road grader"guard is the right guard and your run blocking tackle is your RT. LT is usually a more athletic guy who can handle speed rushers but may not be that mauler in the running game. -
Ironman92Sorry to interrupt but didn't BR1986FB agree to leave forever last year? (Lost a bet maybe?)
Or was it someone else with a similar name?
I don't mind at all that he's back....just wondering if I was misremembering. -

lhslep134Per PFF:
Joe Thomas' pass block rating: 10.6; run block: 8.8
Bitonio's pass: 3.2; run: 8.3
Thomas has the 2nd highest run block rating of any offensive tackle outside of St. Louis' RT Joe Barksdale (with a name like that, can we get him on the Browns?) -

I am actually really surprised by this stat. Thomas is a good run blocker but j didn't think he graded that high. I really think the zone blocking scheme has helped him out quite a bitlhslep134;1668660 wrote:Per PFF:

lol, don't argue about Joe GOAThomas. Thanks. -
like_thatYeah, 2nd best run block rating is far from "sorry," LOL.

Commander of AwesomeSo now, why don't we run left more shanny boy?! That's the better debate.

Lovejoy1984Serious question, as I'm not sure what goes in to it.
But is it possible they ratings are so high, because we don't run to that side of the line as often?
(Not getting in on the JT debate, just asking) -
Laley23
It would be a smalle sample size, that might average out to a lower rating if they went left more often. But the rating itself wouldn't be wrong. When they do run that way, that is the rating.HighRoller74;1668678 wrote:Serious question, as I'm not sure what goes in to it.
