Last year's squad started off slow too. Kipnis was hitting .238 at the end of May last season and the tribe was barely a .500 ball club at that time. Kipnis finished the season hitting .284 and the tribe was 22 games over .500... I know it's tough to be patient, but try to remember we're probably seeing the worst of this ball club right now.
Even if the bats improve I don't think we have the pitching we had last year to sustain a long stretch of winning baseball.

The bats might return to normal, but this rotation is not solid. Part of letting the veterans walk to switch to the young guys meant that if they struggled there wasn't alot of depth behind them. Frankly I think some of our starters (Carrasco/Salazar) would be more effective as relievers than they are as starters. The staff as a whole just has too many guys in miscast roles for my liking as of now.

Could be totally wrong (lord knows it wouldn't be the first time) but I just don't see the pitching on this team to make us a real contender.

yeah...but what if we aren't seeing the worst? Imagine if we didn't start slow last year, or we played the people who were hot instead of keep playing the guys who were slumping. we might have been 24 games over .500 and not playing in some stupid play in game.

There's no way they are contenders with this rotation and bullpen. Lol I stated earlier that the over/under on wins for this team in Vegas at the start of the season was 80.

I agree. This pitching staff cannot be relied on in close games. They aren't going to keep teams off the scoreboard.

    Nice job, Druby...smfh

When was the last time they hit one of out of the infield?

I think Carrasco is awful and should have never won the 5th spot over Tomblin. Problem is, he had no options left (here's your sign...)

Salazar on the other hand is one of the bright young SP's in the game. I believe in his prime (when we will probably trade him), he will be a top 10 pitcher in the league. Our pitching isn't great, but I think there is potential with Masterson, Salazar, McAllister, Marcum, and Kluber. Certainly not the best in the league, but it's not the worst either.
  • IggyPride00
    That should do it.

Kluber should have gotten the hook after the rocket Encarnacion hit.

    Tito waited too long.

    THIS!

9 outs remaining to get 5 runs. Ugh

Salazar will end up being a closer.

Salazar gets blown up too easily. He has no endurance and struggles mightily to get deep into games.

He would be a great reliever. He's great at those short bursts where he throws gas and has great stuff. He just can't seem to sustain it over 7+ innings, but in 1-3 inning increments out of the pen he would be electric.

Can't even have a productive out.

Swisher and Santana need to pull their collectives heads out of their asses.

There batting average and slugging % is just totally unacceptable for top/middle of the order kind of guys.

So do I....maybe it'll work as a reverse jinx.
  • vball10set
Just heard that Santana has hit into SEVEN double plays...that's godawful.

Got some good yard work in while listening to this fiasco.

    Wow.

Went over to the MLB forum in the Tribe section so see what others are saying and it is brutal out there right now.

Numerous comments about having a 2008 feeling watching this team, general disgust and anger about the Harang situation (Kazmir being allowed to walk is also drawing attention with the start he has had), I even saw a couple posts asking for Drew Stubbs back (definitely a disciple of HitsRus it seems).

The fan base is despondent right now. We started out just like this last year, but for some reason there doesn't seem to be the optimism it could turn around that there might have been last year.

The hatred of Carasco seems to be universal, and heaven help him if he lays another egg tomorrow as it seems people are ready to cut the cord clean as far as he's concerned.

KC started slow at 4-7, but has reeled off 5 in a row and looks to be coming into town hot. Tomorrow is a big day for this team even though it's still early. They need to right this ship.

Imo, the talent just isn't there...and I hope I'm proven wrong.

Definitely with the pitching staff. The offense is just underperforming. its a bad combination.
  • HitsRus
I think the strength of the this team last year was the DEPTH of its starting pitching. Kluber , McCallister and Masterson all spent significant time on the DL. Yet we were able to plug in Salazar, Carrasco and Bauer and not miss a beat. With the departure of Ubaldo and Kazmir, and the failure to secure Harang....alot of that depth is gone....and that is going to hurt us as the season wears on.
I'm less concerned about the short term performance of this team...yet. But we didn't improve the offense significantly, we still don't have a big bat in the middle of the lineup, and we got a lot slower losing Stubbs....and then sending Morgan down. Yet to be determined is whether the moves and non moves in the bullpen to replace departing players like Smith with cheaper options....is going to be adequate.
  • HitsRus
Hopefully CC can put together a good outing here today...by God, we need to salvage one game.

Our pitching sucks and our bats have gone silent!
