Lol, that shit's even too weak for Tiernan's drunk moron ass. Nothing turns a good team into a bad one more quickly that maintaining loyalty to older, less effective players long past the point of their prime (ie: Keisel -- good player, epic beard, but it seems like over the past couple years, he's been injured more often than not).

Yea, that's why I've been a Pirates fan for the last 20 years. Keep trying lil' guy.

I said 95% little guy, but nice try.

Using 95% as an example would indicate a minimum of 20 fans of the Steelers on this board. I don't think there are that many.

It'd then mean that of those 20, 19 would change allegiance. And, well, I know I wouldn't (you know, the whole Pirates thing combined with how, in my growing up days, both the Browns and Bengals were better at winning games than the Bristers) and it appears GoPens wouldn't.

So for you to be correct, you'd need to find 38 other Steelers fans on this board and be able to prove all of them would change sides if the other team was better.

    Good luck!

Well there used to be that much lol.

Since you guys are taking my post literally I will change it up. I'd you and gopens would probably be the exceptions. Happy now?

It's not always pretty, but I like how their front office handles the personnel. More often then not, they know wtf they are doing. It's a business.

My guess is Troy will restructure and Keisel is gone

I'm not too keen on the RB crop this year, but was just thinking about the possibility of getting a versatile back late....someone who can consistently catch out of the backfield with the potential to break one. Yes, taken early, but Gio Bernard comes to mind. I love that style of player. Cincy struck gold with that one.

The Brister years... Ugh. Don't know what was worse, watching him play, listening to him talk, or tv constantly showing his mom up in the stands.

    I would.

As for Troy being a shell.....I think that's too far but also semantics. He had a Pro Bowl season and was excellent most of the time.

I do not want him to go anywhere else. Do not.

Never a huge fan of Keisel....he's gotta go. Several others are meh....need a NT, a big CB, big receiver and just lineman, lineman lineman.....if Mike Adams plays, then no matter what the line sucks. He is as bad as I've ever seen.

Hopefully Pro Bowl Pouncey is back and healthy.

Anyone who actually watched Pittsburgh this year could see that Ben and Troy were the brightest spots on the team. 43 played out of his mind. They had a lot of issues, but those positions were solid.

AB and Suisham had very good years as well.

I liked how Jarvis Jones played as a rookie and Le'Veon Bell really came along and looks to be another good draft pick.

Cortez Allen.....he's really starting to grow on me and has vastly improved.

Emmanuel Sanders was a decent #2 receiver but is really a #3 guy but he had some really nice games.

The line? Get Pouncey back.....I really liked how Guy Whimper (atrocious name) and Kelvin Beachum played on the line when called upon, both got injured but IMO are both good enough to start. The line (outside of Adams) improved as the year went along.

Cam Heyward after a few years of underachieving had a solid season and looks ready to be near the player many thought he would.

Kickoff coverage team was abysmal the last 1/3 of the season. Woeful.

To go along with what's been said:

    1. Yeah, Troy definitely needs to be back. He was healthier than he'd been in a long time last year and was probably the best part of the defense. And as bad as the defense struggled at times last year, getting rid of the best component probably isn't the solution I'd be looking for.

    2. Oh lawd, a Brister's mom reference. That's what I deserve for bring up the Name of Bubby.

    3. This is just sort of a weird offseason to gauge. On one hand, they sucked for half the season; but then were strong the other half. The schedule was a bit favorable then, though, with their biggest wins being against the Paper Tigers, against a Detroit team starting their epic freefall into suckitude and against the Packers...led by Matt Flynn. But when the line got better, the offense was more effective overall (yeah, classy, how'd the line do in holding back Detroit's group of all-time all-stars on their DL??????? bitch!), and many of the problems were on defense. If they can shore up some things there, this group still has some good years in front of them.

    4. But for that to happen, I think they have to attack the before-season with more urgency. They were 0-4 in the preseason, I think, and then started 0-4 in the regular season. When you consider they finished 8-8, that just screams to me they had some sort of country club "we got old guys, let's take it easy" mindset and that it took a good half the season to really get their shit together. I mean, they weren't what I'd consider to be a SB contender under any situation, but they SHOULD have been a playoff team. Losing to teams like the Vikings and Raiders was just inexcusable. And I don't care if Oakland always seems to be a trap game. That loss was pathetic regardless and should not have happened.

Agreed. AT times I wonder if Tomlin is too lax on the team. Hopefully they learned something. Wasnt last offseason the first of the new CBA with no two a days and such?

Yeah the run blocking will be better, but does it really matter that much when they throw? He still holds onto the ball for a very long time.
    True.

But you have to take the good with the bad. He holds onto the ball for a long time, and i a perfect world we all wish he would throw it away when needed and scramble around and make his big plays when needed.
Thing is, he makes so many plays because he holds onto the ball for a long time. He makes so many plays by moving around in the pocket. Do I wish he would get rid of it like manning? Yeah, but that isnt his game.
I dont know, maybe he doesnt make as quick decisions as other QB's, or maybe hte WR corp has a whole hasnt been good enough, or maybe he isnt one of those QBs who feel comfortable throwing it when the defender is right there.
    Dont know.

But he is a very good QB. WOuldnt put him in the elite class, but in that next step below.

I dont think steelers fans will dump the steelers and start following the Pens instead. PItt is very fortunate to have a usually good FB team and also a good hockey team. I know twice while in PItt I went to the hockey on sat, steelers on sunday. The crowds were sold out, but not as many people showed up per game especially early on.

I think it is a sign of a spoiled fan base. SEason ticket wait is still very long.

I admit, I dont go as often with the buddies in the years they arent playing as well. It is over a 600 mile trip for the game and nowadays usually spend the night before so it becomes a whole weekend thing. In the good years......4-6 games, in the more lean years....1-2 (like this year). NOt that I dont like them any less, but life gets in the way. Still watch them pretty much every week, but when they arent winning it is hard to justify going those extra times and speding that extra money when we can just sell the tix.

i thought we came out and had the mind set to run the ball but didnt have the lineman to do it...we got stubborn and tried to do it for four games with haley calling the plays...finally they gave up and let ben call the plays along with finding a couple of guys who could step in and block and we started to win some games

I forgot to mention Jason Worilds had a very good year.

Both McShay and Kiper have the Steelers taking Louis Nix of ND....defensive tackle.

    I hope they are wrong

I dont get into the whole draft or recruiting stuff so I don tknow whom they should or shouldnt take.
I focus more on what positions they need to upgrade...OL, another WR, secondary, and then probably DL. They thinking he would be the best available at their spot? I would think not.

I do wonder though about the defense. Still was good later in the season. I have always been a 3-4 guy. I like the flexibility and having more athletes on the field with that extra LB instead of a DL. Even in the heyday it didnt seem like sending the 3 DL and one OLB would get the pressure so they had to commit more to the rush.

with the passing games getting better, and shorter/quicker drops, it makes it very hard to get that pressure with these style blitzes.

Am I wwrong to wonder if the 4-3 may be the wave of the future? 4 athletic DL to get pressure on the QB more consistantly becuase in the 3-4 the DL arent asked to and even built to put pressure on the QB.

I dont know...been kicking it around for the last couple of seasons since they have been down. Probaly just an overreaction
The one thing though is that the 3/4 does rely more on the blitzing, overloading, confusing the OL and the elaborate scheme. With the passing game become so huge in the league

I want the best big physical CB, a freak receiver (doesn't have to be polished) 2 offensive lineman and a nose tackle......maybe a safety
  • Ironman92
Kinda hate losing Woodley but the steroidal freak has been very oft injured and not forcing turnovers at all.
  • Automatik
Yeah, I'm cool with. He never played up to that monster contract.
  • Automatik
    Mike Mitchell signed, thoughts?
  • Ironman92
Not real sure. 5 year $25 million

He wasn't expected to even be drafted then ran a 4.4 at the combine and is one of the highest drafted bobcats ever.

I think he's a good ball hawk.....looks like Troy's replacement but hopefully not immediately
