If anything he validated he should be starting.

Hoyer was even worse, and if they both suck at least go with the guy who has a future and some upside.

Hoyer is exactly what I have been saying he is. They should cut him, let Johnny start, Rex back-up and keep Shaw as a 3rd stringer.

Every regular season snap Hoyer takes is just this franchise wasting time.

Farmer needs to take a round of applause as well.

He was too cool to do anything of substance to address the WR position, and we have the worst group in the NFL now. The only guy that has half an ounce of talent is about to miss a good chunk or all of the season.

Good thing he didn't alter his draft board when the news came down. I guess living in denial made him feel good, but now Browns fans everywhere have to pay the price with unwatchable offense yet again.

Or do Browns fans have to put there blinders on like when they gave me shit for saying Colt McCoy wasn't the answer either?
    Cool story bro.

first team defense looked really good, and is about the only thing I took out of this game.

Using this logic and based on last night's performance, then cut 'em both, make Shaw your #1 with Rex backing up.

Can Brian Sipe still play? God that was awful. Looking like the offense is going to either need to bust off long runs for TD's or the defense is going to have to score points. Wouldn't surprise me, at this point, if Hoyer is one of the final cuts. Manziel looked clueless and like shit too. Doesn't matter if Josh Gordon is suspended at this point because a) it looks like he has no interest in playing and b) the Browns have nobody who can get him the ball.

Other than Shaw's Hail Mary at the end....has any of our QBs thrown downfield? ...in either game?

Not really. They either run the ball or throw short checkdowns.

The running game looks solid along with the defense. Besides the QB's, except for running the ball, the O-Line looked like shit too. Schwartz was getting pushed back into the backfield repeatedly.

I will say it again, Kirk Cousins is better than both our QBs. Trade them both for him just so we can see Foot and IQQy go nuts.

Hello everyone, let's stop worrying about 2 preseason games, in a new offense, with a qb battle going on. Hoyer was 3-0 as a starter last year and is coming off an acl tear. These are his first 2 games back in action. Everyone just calm the fuck down.

I'm hoping the browns are just trying to get the QBs reps, because when it counts they better run the ball more.

Running game looked pretty solid with Tate averaging 5.1 ypc and West averaging almost 4.

I have no issue with getting them reps but the accuracy issues are glaring to me. It would be one thing if the WR's were dropping everything but these QB's are missing badly with their throws.
  • Rotinaj
I'm not worried. The inaccuracy could be due to a number of things. They made the right reads and whoever gets ALL of the first team reps this week will look much better next game. Splitting reps again would be a terrible idea.

To me it looked like the timing was off all game between receivers and qb. A huge reason for that is the splitting if repainted practice. I know as a receiver it's tough to get good timing with 2 different qb's especially when they have different styles. Once a qb gets most the reps those accuracy issue will improve greatly.

Agreed. One play specifically was johnny to I think cameron. Johnny thought he was going to sit down in the coverage but cameron kept his route going. Give the starting qb a few weeks with just the number 1's and that familiarity will be there for the season.

Even though they both looked shitty, I think you gotta go with Hoyer week 1. Manziel isn't ready.

Hoyer, to my eyes at least, looked like he was comfortable in the pocket. Like he was going through the reads and had a calmness about him.
  • IggyPride00
Both our QB's are shitty at the moment and had accuracy issues, but why does it seem that our receivers are incapable of catching anything that isn't 100% on the numbers?

Some of those balls were behind the receivers, but they got both hands on the ball most of the time. In the NFL you have to catch those. I watch other teams and their receivers always manage to bring in balls that would be drops with this group.

Be it Hoyer or Johnny they need more help from the receivers catching balls that are catchable even though they aren't perfect.

This has been going on for years now, and I just don't understand it.
  • Automatik
Yeah, Manziel was skittish at times. Unless he shows he's significantly better throughout the rest of camp/preseason, no fucking way you throw him out there week 1.
  • shook_17
It doesn't matter, same shit different year. We are going to go 4-12 Pettine will be fired and we will switch back to the 4-3.
  • shook_17
Honestly you give Hoyer the nod weeks 1-3. If we start 1-2 or 0-3 you start Manziel after the bye week. It gives him another month or so to get comfortable with the offense and being in the pocket.

Agreed. My feelings are that if you think you legitimately have something in Manziel, but he's still skittish, you don't throw your "commodity" to the wolves. Let Hoyer take the beating if they both suck and bring JFF in later after he's watched.

They need to decide like last week whom the starter is so he can get prepared for the season. Splitting of snaps for the QB is only going to make this worse.
