Cleveland Cavaliers Season Thread: Kyrie for MVP!

In other words...your argument isn't supported by anything other than your own old man mentality that probably leads you to say that everything was better back in the day. I suppose you probably think the NFL was too!

The biggest issue I have today is the lack of an offense. NBA has always been pick and roll and 1-1 game. But it's even more so now. Very little off the ball movement and cutting going on, which is what I love ncaa so much more. But I still like the nba because I love basketball and they are the best of the best. But the lack of an offense league wide is annoying to me.

Of teams I watched last season enough to form an opinion, it seemed like Indy, GSW and the Grizzlies ran anything beyond the typical nba offense.

Not at all. NFL is a much better product than it used to be. Best sport on the planet. Believe me, not everything was better "back in the day." There were some things but not a lot.

He is getting there. Blame Byron Scott for that. I saw stuff from Kyrie last night on defense and loose balls that I've never seen.

And there were more than three players/teams. At least back then it wasn't a forgone conclusion who the champion would be BEFORE the season started. And I go back past that era...more like the Kareem/Lakers, Havlichek/Cowens/etc/Celtics.
You should see his comparison he made in the hipster thread. Something about dinosaurs and sausage and idk.

    Tell that to my parents!

Today's NBA is not nearly as enjoyable to watch as the 80's/90's NBA. Not even close. AAU and all of these guys being best buds has taken the rivalries out of the game, for the most part.

    Ha today's NBA is boring

Thank you! Today, everyone has got to be "boys/best buds." No legit disdain for each other.

NBA Today > NBA in the 90's.

And I LOVED the NBA in the 90's.

NAH BRO! It's the same. They are creating a perception, and you're allowing it to happen.

How many November/December games do you remember from the 90s? How distinctly do you remember saying on November 14th, "Man, Jordan is really playing his ass off." Those with a jacked up perspective don't realize they have a jacked up perspective--shocker!

So the players like each other more than 90's and that makes the product less enjoyable?

Really? It's basketball dude. Who cares if they are all having butt sex after the game, the product on the floor is 10x better than a bunch of white dudes in short shorts trying to guard Jordan.

I distinctly remember less one on one play and more set offenses back then. I'm sorry you can't understand this.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

+1. What a ridiculous argument. Rivalries are scarce in all pro sports(when it comes to players) today, not just the NBA.

I just don't like it because it's a bunch a cry baby superstars who cry their way into better situations (ie Howard). Other than the cavs I can't really tolerate watching the NBA.

Also, hit me with an /ironman, but the reffing was much better in the 90s. Now you have these 70 year old refs who somehow can run down court and see fouls from a distance with their 70 year old eyes.

Oh you do? I'm pretty sure you're younger than I am, and I was a huge NBA fan back then, but I didn't know anything about NBA sets in the 2nd/3rd grade.

NBA doesn't have the shot clock to run "sets". Mostly you'll see systems that are designed to get a quick look which mostly break down into 1 on 1 situations. The only real sets are inbound plays designed to get a shot off but even more of those break down into 1 on 1 plays too.

As far as the league not playing any defense, league average for PPG is actually much lower now than in the 90's. I'll give the last 3 years of league average PPG vs. those years minus 20 years.

    2012: 98.1 2011: 96.3 2010: 99.6
    1992: 105.3 1991: 105.3 1990: 106.3

So, no defense in today's game? LOL

You could say the lack of defense is due to the length of the season, but there is no denying that defensive intensity lacks during the regular season. The playoffs are a different story though. Call me old school, I just get irked when professionals give off the "fuck it" attitude when it comes to defense. I see it a lot.

That's fine. However please realize this attitude was apparently even more prevalent in the 90's given they allowed 7-10 PPG more than today's players. I've seen good defense in the regular season and still contend that Varejao is the NBA's best defender.

Yeah Griffin, Melo, Dwade, Dirk.... Melo and Griffin are the worst. Loved that Griffin was getting pwned last night by the TNT crew.

Also I was mistaken, you're older than me.

Can we get back to Cavs talk :)

I think Kyrie comes out and has a much more efficient scoring game, something like 20-25 points on 60%+ shooting... and we win by 5-7
