Orioles at Indians series thread

With Tito, a sure ticket to sitting on the bench is pounding a game winning home run.
Surely a head scratcher sitting Aviles today. Maybe he was too tired from having to circle the bases.

Still very doable when you consider how many scrub teams (who we own) we face in September.

Way to early to be hitting the panic switch.
yeah but most of the teams we are chasing also have weak schedules or unlike the Indians, sometimes beat good teams.

This quoted from laley at the beginning of the crucial 9 game stretch....( Braves/Tribe thread)
If they can survive the tough 9 game stretch...even at 4-5, and as much as it will suck while its happening, 3-6, I think we get have a chance.
We will need to beat the O's the next 2 games to get to 3-6.......and it does suck while it's happening.:(

Everytime we have buried these guys whether it was in April, July or August...they haven't quit and have responded.

If they can rip off 4 or 5 of the next 5 they will get right back in the thick. But they have to come back and win this series vs the O's and they must get 2 of 3 vs Mets at the worst. A sweep would be nice and is possible.

As for the injury...ummm, what??? How was he pitching like ****? He gave up 0 runs while in the game for his 1+ inning pitched and wanted to stay in the game. Blaming it would be giving up 7ER in 4 innings and growing it 94MPH ten going on the DL tomorrow.

Finally, and for the 5th time I haven't been a Camerman in about 2 years. And the season is in no way over...though it is sliding that way.
oh, okay...how could I be so obtuse?

    Perez :(

Dont let Perez blow this. Pull his ass RIGHT NOW!
  • TBone14
Perez...I swear to God if you blow this....
  • HitsRus
Geez...I don't know how a guy can look so bad to start an inning, and then turn it around and blow the next 3 guys away.

We need to win tomorrow to leapfrog the O's in the WC race. A win will give us that magical 3-6 record over the tough 9 game stretch that Laley thinks will keep us close enough to qualify for the last WC spot. Myself, I'm not very optimistic...even with a win tomorrow we will still need to catch New York and Tampa Bay, with both the Birds and the Royals right on our tails. We may have an easy schedule, but the WC spot depends on none of the other teams getting a hot streak too. We still play the Royals 6 more times, and I don't think you can take them lightly.

More bad news...Masterson will miss at least 2 starts, but insiders seem to think yesterday might be the last 'regular season' start for the big right hander.

Corey Kluber is expected to be back in the rotation soon. He will make his return 'piggyback' to Scott Kazmir's Friday start. Kazmir will pitch the first innings, and Kluber will follow. The thought process there is to keep Kaz's innings down and give Kluber a 'rehab' type start to regain some length.

Harold Reynolds just said what I, and others, have been saying.

"Man, just look at that graphic. Oakland or Texas gets one, but if the Indians or Royals can hang around...I mean, odds might be on them. Cause the East is gonna play each other, you know?"

Ryan Raburn should be available for PH duties tonite...still not 100%

9,662 faithful Friends of the Feather winessed Ubaldo's gem last nite. Way to go Cleveland!

Mrs. Hits and I will be adding 2 to the count tonite.

    Ubaldo is worthless.........
  • TBone14
Somebody posted Ublado's 2nd half numbers on Twitter. Something like a 2.22 ERA. He has been real good. Let's get this one tonight, enjoy a rare non-travel off day at home tomorrow and get ready to get after the Mets this weekend.

    Rays
    Yankees 2.5 GB
    O's 3 GM
    Tribe 3.5 GB

I am not sure many fans even realize how close we actually are to a playoff birth via that 2nd wild card. 3.5 games out is really not that much with the schedule we have remaining, as well as the fact the AL East teams all have to keep playing eachother.

I also think that the Dolan's did so much harm to the team and their relationship with the fans that it is going to take years of winning baseball to get people to come back in big numbers.

There are still many people in this town that don't want to give that family another nickel of their money because of their behavior the past 4-5 years. Once you develop a reputation, it can be very hard to change public opinion. They are right now reaping what they sowed during that stretch.

    I never understood this position.

For me, I either am willing to be entertained for the ticket price or not. I make that decision each time I go.

Only 9600 plus said yes to that question last night. Why does it matter what the owner did over the last 4 years? If you want to be entertained tonight for the cost of a ticket someone else isn't going to keep me from doing getting it.

There were alot of hard feelings in this town over the fact the Dolan's were lining their pockets with fans money (making a huge profit) while doing absolutely nothing to improve the on field product. There was a very strong "who cares what the fans think" vibe coming out of East 9th and Carnegie, and that rubbed alot of people the wrong way. There are some who haven't gotten over it.

^^^ and I am one of them.

I don't disagree...for 16 years, I held a 4 seat front row full season plan....I had 6 or 7 'partners'. 5 of those guys threw everything in after the great salary dump that saw Cliff Lee get traded for a bag of baseballs, a cup of coffee, and Carlos Carrasco. I had to get rid of my front row seats and take a pair out in the bleachers. There is one other guy who stuck around, that I split those tickets with. None of the other guys have any desire to jump back in, even though the team is winning.

I think the CC and Cliff Lee deals would have gone over better had we had something to show for them. Usually when you trade a Cy Young pitcher you get something decent in return. As you said, we got a bag of baseballs for a pair of them.

Instead of jobs being lost for whiffing so badly, promotions were in order.

There is just so much that was mishandled that looking back on it now you really do just shake your head and wonder what the hell they were thinking.

Going forward this off-season is so huge. For all that they spent last off-season, they added zero payroll. It was all slight of hand. They are going to have to add to this team for next season if the goal is a real playoff push where we can beat higher level teams.

To get fans to come back to the park on a consistent basis is going to take sustained winning and commitment to being competitive. Not one off-season of payroll parity and a name manager. It was a good start, but there has to be a second act to start convincing people that things have really changed.

Not everyone has a black and white approach to sports like you do con_alma. It's not all about the entertainment. Hope this helps.
