Tribe @ Braves- Series Thread

I'd give anything to go back to the beginning of the year and move Asdrubal for anything of value.

    %$#@
Yea, that was an option too. Guess Tito trusted Joe more to get a solid righty out than Scrabble to get an all-star lefty out. Sucks to not have confidence in your lefties in the pen to get clutch outs.

    It was the right play.

Cause Freeman is hitting .310 and Joe Smith is allowing lefties to hit about .708 against him. Add those numbers together and you have over a 100% chance Freeman gets a base hit lol.

Joe Smith is dead even with righties/lefties with a .237 for lefties and .231 for righties.

Oh and masterson walked the freaking pitcher.

As a manager if you let a guy like Joe Smith pitch to and get beat by a guy like Freddie Freeman you won't be managing for very long.
  • Glory Days
So far the games combined, the score is 5-2.....talk about no offense....
  • Wooball
Got to find a way to get tomorrow's game. Leave Atlanta w/ 1 of 3 while it isn't ideal doesn't crush us.

Also, this isn't an excuse, but how fucking stupid is it to be playing interleague baseball during the stretch run???

Freeman and Johnson are both batting .317/.318 versus righties.

Johnson is leading the NL. its like pitching to Miggy in that situation.
  • Wooball
If you don't see why they made that decision, I can't help you

You can throw those #'s out there, and I agree. Johnson is having a career year. But Freeman is a complete stud and you don't get beat by him in that situation.

Whats the split look like since the AS Break. He hasnt gotten a lefty out in about 2 months.

Also, the biggest WTF moment today, WHY WAS A AAA PLAYER JUST CALLED UP PINCH HITTING!!! Every single bench player needs to be used before the kid gets his chance, imo.

I think by Sunday we can all just focus on football.
  • Wooball
I hope not, but we do have to face murderer's row this weekend.

The problem is people just assume the R/R or L/L match up always works. It doesn't and we should know, Brantley is a great example where it doesn't.

I agree it doesn't always work, but you don't let Smith pitch and have the chance to lose the game to Freeman in that situation. So you either bring in Rep, which Tito obviously didn't want to do, or you walk Freeman and take your chances against Johnson. I know what Smith's #'s show, but do you really feel comfortable w/ him facing an all-star left handed power hitter with the game on the line? How do you answer the questions as a manager when Freeman hits one over the moon for the win against your side-winding right handed specialist? Joe Smith gets paid to get righties out, they gave him the chance to do that, he didn't and we lost.

I'd answer by saying I didn't want to pitch to the best hitter in the NL and take my chances with Freeman.

I mean, if Fielder batted before Miggy, would you walk fielder and pitch to Miggy just for the righty righty match up?

    Walk both of them....problem solved

    100% agree with both statements.

I'm rethinking my earlier projected hopes:(.... 4-5 might not be so bad.

    If you mean the Buckeyes...yeah!
If you are referring to the Browns....eh not so much.

Not as crazy at that might sound. Another way to say that, is to pitch both of the guys very carefully and let them try to get themselves out....and if they walk, so what.

I said a while back that if he's considered to be our "ace', we're in trouble. Stick a fork in the Tribe, they're done. Two more days, baby

    The offense sucked. Again

No legit threat in the lineup. As Aug 31 comes and another deadline passes with the team "in contention" and nothing is done to bolster the offense you can blame the FO

Also if our fat shortstop had any range the inning is over at best and at worst extended one more batter.

If our best catcher was playing the inning is over with no threat.

    yup

Interesting to compare the Braves use of the stolen base when 1 run will win the game to the Indian's strategy of late not running Stubbs and Bourne when they get on late in the game.
