se-alumIf Cueto isn't ready, does Reynolds finally get the call for one of the double-header games?

Azubuike24Reynolds isn't on the 40-man, yet Corcino and Villareal are.
Corcino once had upside, but he sucks now. Villareal is garbage. I sure as hell hope the Reds don't start either of those guys...but a 40-man move would be needed for Reynolds to be called up. -
Azubuike24Neftali Soto called up, presumably for 4 games, and then a subsequent move(s) would have to be made to address the starting pitchers.
-
se-alumWould've been nice if the doubleheader was on Monday, would've set up nicely for the Reds to keep Soto up for 10 days.

Ironman92I'm not sure how quality of a magazine the Cincinnati Magazine is....but Brandon Phillips might have some explaining to do.
He said he had to "swallow his pride" and sign his 6 year $72,500,00 contract and is hurt that Votto got $200 million. A lot of QQ throughout the article. It doesn't look good. -
thavoiceWhat a shame. Only 72 million, that sucks. Don't they know he has kids running all around the City that he has to support! Does not surprise me though that he would say stuff like that.

RotinajThey both make about what they should. BP could of got more had he gone to the highest bidder though IMO. He's 7th among 2nd basemen in salary this year but by the last 2 years he'll probably be 3rd or 4th.
-
se-alumI contend that BP was overpaid for what he was being paid for, which was being a great defensive 2nd baseman and a 2-hole hitter.

What about being near the top of RBI's? Votto's money is basically based on his MVP season. He is good, very good. He is the only player really on the reds that I will make sure and watch hit. I think for him to "earn" his money he needs to hit 30+, drive in 100+, and get on base pretty much like he does...basically do what Pujols did. Pujols is another story, he is not worth his money at his age but won big in FA. BP couldn't got more money on the open market but he chose not to.se-alum;1475184 wrote:I contend that BP was overpaid for what he was being paid for, which was being a great defensive 2nd baseman and a 2-hole hitter. -

I'm saying, that BP was overpaid when he signed the contract based on what the Reds expected him to be. He wasn't signed to be a clean-up hitter with 100+ RBI's. I don't think he's overpaid now based on production, but I think he was overpaid initially based on the expectations of him.thavoice;1475189 wrote:What about being near the top of RBI's? Azubuike24I don't have an issue with it. BP is being honest.
Joey, you can argue, is not worth 10yr/225M. However, that was the price to keep him. It's business. Brandon is brutally honest. -

Agree with both of you. I think keeping Votto for the long haul was very important for the reds. Of course they were going to have to overpay him, especially if they expected him to sign it well before he hit FA. I think it also stabilized the franchise as they have the 3 hole, perennial all star player entrenched for the long haul. It was already getting annoying at the talk of what do to with him 'because he was going to sign a big deal somewhere else'. WHat that did was really show the fan base that his franchise is serious about winning. To be honest, that is when I jumped on board in the thinking that they were serious.Azubuike24;1475214 wrote:I don't have an issue with it. BP is being honest.

Heretic did a write up of the 2nd half of the NL central. Feel free to let him know what you think. Also , if any of you guys want to give a reds fan's perspective, just pm me and I am happy to put up anything that is reasonable. -
Midstate01Really hand it to Votto with his comments about what Phillips said. He could have gone a different route and I was a little worried it'd cause some division, but apparently it's not going to at all.

That he respects Phillips for being honest and that he's thought things like Brandon said.
Phillips came out and said the reason he was mad when Votto got paid is because he thought that meant he'd be leaving the reds and he didn't want that. -

Injury updates:
Sean Marshall - setback throwing, won't throw for a few days. He was progressing nicely and almost ready for a rehab assignment.
Jonathan Broxton - close to returning and may make a rehab appearance or two.
Ryan Ludwick - may be going on a rehab assignment in a week or two, but not expected back until mid-August.
Ryan Hanigan - not in this article, but last I checked he will be back close to when he is eligible
Johnny Cueto - nothing
Not encouraging considering it would be nice to know all of this before the trade deadline... -
wildcats20Anyone making a game thread?
-
Azubuike24Should be S&L, but who knows...
-
Terry_TateI'll do it if you want me to. Can't remember what my first half record was but it was pretty good. I'll give him until 7:07?
