Since March 1, the hottest teams in the league:

    1. Pittsburgh (20-3-0, 40 pts)
    2. Columbus (16-4-4, 36 pts)
    3. Chicago (17-5-1, 35 pts)
    4. Washington (17-6-1, 35 pts)
    5. San Jose (14-7-4, 32 pts)
    6. NY Islanders (14-5-4, 32 pts)

Also, the win last night (coupled with Detroit's loss) improved Columbus' playoff chances by 22.5% (source: http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html). They now have a 40% chance of making the playoffs. A win tonight and that goes up to about a 60% chance.

Updated this. Last night sucked. Now back to 21% playoff chance.

Huge tonight for the Stars loss keeps the CBJ ahead in 8th place.

A division that still sucks ass.

Yeah, it's really shitty that the division winners are the top three seeds in each conference. They deserve the 7-8 seed their performance has earned; not a home-ice advantage one in the first round for barely being good enough to make the playoffs.
  • sportchampps
Well the wings got a point last night and are now a point back with a game in hand.
  • Crimson streak
I'm really hoping the caps can lock up this division. If they can get by the 6th seed they have owned Montreal this year. They got a great shot at going to the conference finals especially the way Holtby has been playing
  • End of Line
Penguins locked up the #1 seed yesterday with a win over Boston.

Jackets win! Almost let that one get away, but the GWG comes with <2 min to play.

3 points up on Detroit now, with two to play. Come on Kings, beat Dallas tonight!
  • Big_Mirg_ZHS
    Cardiac jackets!

    I believe!
  • rydawg5
I legit give the jackets a 50% chance of making the playoffs now. This is unreal!
  • Classyposter58
I think Detroit is almost done, embarrassing how poorly they've been managed this season

A win for Phoenix tomorrow would be huge for us. Letestu had a big game tonight.

Yep - a regulation win tonight from Phoenix means the Jackets control their own destiny. If Detroit gets a point or two, they still likely control their playoff destiny (although they now have 18 regulation and OT wins - Columbus has 17. If they win one in a shootout, Jackets win the rest in regulation and OT, and they end up tying the Jackets in points, Jackets would win the tiebreaker - head-to-head record).

However, interestingly enough, Minnesota has entered the fray again in the fight for 8th - 51 points, 45 GP. If they drop games down the stretch and the Jackets keep winning, 7th place is up for the taking. Feasibly, the Jackets could get as high as 5th if San Jose, St. Louis, Minnesota and Detroit lose out and the Jackets win out (they would beat San Jose head-to-head on regulation and OT wins and both would finish with 55 points, while St Louis would finish with 54).

However, not really likely so I'll focus on the 7th/8th/9th teams below.

Red Wings rolling, up 2-0 after 1 on Phoenix. Gotta hope Phoenix can find a way to come back in this one..
  • gorocks99
Detroit wins, now 1 pt back of Columbus with a game in hand.

Big Kings fans this week - they take on Minnesota tonight and Detroit tomorrow.

Jackets need to win out (@ DAL, vs NSH) and have either
    a) Minnesota get <4 points in their final three games (vs LA, vs EDM, @ COL), or
    b) Detroit get <5 points in their final three games (vs LA, vs NSH, @ DAL).

Best chance for either of those teams to lose is against the Kings - who luckily are still playing for home ice in the first round.
  • gorocks99
Good news: Dallas loses, pushing them to the brink of elimination.

Bad news: Minnesota beat LA, pushing them to 53 points with two to play. They are effectively locked into the playoffs with just Edmonton and Colorado left to play. The 8th and final spot will come down to Detroit and Columbus.

    C'mon Kings, win tonight!
  • Crimson streak
The caps clinched last night after beating the jets. It was basically a win you're in you lose you're basically done.

Yeah, they (the Jets) could still make it if the Rags or Sens fuck up royally but I don't see it happening.

Dustin Brown out tonight, the way that arena has been I'd be shocked if Detroit loses either of the next two

Well I hope they lose their next two by 10 goals each :p
