It’s great to see they have been able to fight and claw their way back out in front.

Now they need to play like the better team and put this one a way.
    This......

was said by a huge douchebag.
    Thank you troll bitch.

    I think I struck a nerve. LOL

Yeah and have Crosby miss a gimme kick? From what I have seen the past 3-4 weeks I wouldnt leave it up to my kicker to make a FG to win the game.

Maybe instead of GB scoring when the DB slipped, they'd have been better off going down on the one yd line to run clock!

    On side kick strategy:

plan A: recover it and go score for a two score advantage

plan B: get the the GB possession out of the way, worst case giving up a TD with time left for the offense to control the game's destiny, rather than ffail like they have been in letting the defense control the game's destiny.

Neither was a very good chance, but they at least tried something different than what hadn't been working, and they got lucky!

Wow, somewhere someone is kicking themselves for not starting Ben on their fantasy team.

a lot of things broke the Steelers way today

    here is what they need

    wins over Baltimore and Miami

Jacksonville loss to either New England or Cleveland

N.Y. Jets loss to either Indianapolis or Cincinnati

Houston loss to either Miami or New England (I think they still need to lose)

Denver loss to Philadelphia or Kansas City

I think those chances are pretty good

The Steelers are right back in the thick of things. Absolutely shocking.

Definitely agree with the onside call. If they kick it deep their secondary is just going to get torched again and GB runs more time off the clock. The Steelers are never going to win a close game this season if they don't have the ball last. The announcers obviously didn't watch the last five games.

I hate the Steelers but that was a helluva game.

Thats the Steelers offense that I thought we would all see this year, where's that been all year ?
  • Glory Days
pretty good chance? i would just say they have a chance. its far from a pretty good chance the way they have been playing.
  • killer_ewok
I said it right after it happened....I had no problem with the onside kick.

When the Steelers scored to take the lead (30-28) I looked at the time remaining and thought "I hope the Packers score quickly and leave the Steelers enough time for a come back."

Given the way the defense has played this year in the clutch I can only assume that is what Tomlin was thinking. Either get the ball and run out the clock, or let GB score fast enough that the Steelers have time left to attempt to score.

What else could he be thinking?????

It's just sad (at least for Steelers' fans) that we have to resort to that type of thinking. A lot of people bad mouthed Cowher but how often did Cowher's Steelers win close games by relying on the defense?

I they play the offense they played tonight we should win out and as for the other things that need to happen...they most likely will happen :] does anyone know if troy will play the baltimore or miami games?

At least it should keep the Steeler fan interest up for at least another week!

If he goes down at the one, then they run two plays straight up the gut and don't score on purpose, then try to score on 3rd down, and if you don't, rely on your kicker to make an extra point type kick for the lead. Granted you have to hold Pitt to a FG, but there will be way less time on the clock to run out!

Just got home. I listened the the Steeler announcers radio broadcast, so I have a question....

Were the 2 calls that kept the Steelers alive on that last drive legit? I am just asking since the one play was an interception that was negated.

Without a doubt. Clearly the right calls.

    Good deal.

I was hauling ass home to try to catch the end of the game because my radio reception kept taking a shit.....but I was about 5 min to late.

Packers were holding basically the entire drive. Some they let go and some they called. Kind of makes it tough for the officials when they do it every play because you can't call everything.
  • Ironman92
I understood the reasoning of the onsides kick...but our special teams execution is atrocious and......IF Green Bay doesn't score a TD on THAT play that they did (GAY freaking fell down...AGAIN...which allowed a TD instead of teh ball 1st and goal with 2 minutes left)

Wouldn't of had any time left.

NBC said that Mike Tomlin outlined this exact thinking in his post game comments. This outside the box thinking workied in this case, but did not work for Belichick on the 4th and 1 call against Peyton Manning. Even though both strategies were "outside the box", I think they were both the best strategy under the situation, and the one that had the least chance of working, actually did work!

Great game for the Steelers. It could have been more decisive if their secondary wasn't such a frickin' sieve, but after losing five straight, just beating a quality opponent is welcome news.

IF they pull out wins over Baltimore and Miami, they have a great shot of making the playoffs. Four other teams have to lose one of their final two games for it to happen, but they all have at least one game that should be tough and, let's face it, when you're 8-6 or 7-7, consistency isn't a strong suit, so it'll be an ordeal for any of these teams to go 2-0 down the stretch.

Of course, that goes for the wildly inconsistent Steelers, as well. They have no margin for error when so many teams have the conference record tiebreaker over them.
  • David St. Hubbins
For playoff spots does it go by the head-to-head tiebreaker if the teams have played first or does it always go by conference record?
