I said above that I view him kind of like Leonard in that Leonard wasn't a top 2-3 player on the Spurs but he was dynamite in his role and played great. If he's relied on as a top 2-3 player yeah he won't be that good, but to be the 4th-5th or so best player on the team he can be fantastic. They aren't the same type of player but just talking about how they are in their role. -

That' the issue, and I'm guessing why he slid this far. Quite a few guys in this draft aren't good defenders though and were drafted much higher who aren't nearly the offensive player that DT is. If he can't defend with the Spurs he won't play, Pop won't play that. Getting him at 58 is a steal though imo.SportsAndLady;1464817 wrote:But can he defend? Pop won't even give him a chance to "score at will" if he can't show him first he can defend. -
Hb31187
Yeah pop is the epitome of.old school lol. You don't defend and buy into D and take good shots...you don't playSportsAndLady;1464817 wrote:But can he defend? Pop won't even give him a chance to "score at will" if he can't show him first he can defend. -

lol not only will he make someone's team but he will steal someone's minutes and make a rotation as wellwildcats20;1464818 wrote:Didn't feel like spelling his name lol -

Maybe they can groom him as Matt Bonner's replacement.robj55;1464812 wrote:Thomas is an NBA player, hopefully he can find a niche with the Spurs. He can score at that level no doubt though. -
robj55CJ Leslie is wayyy to talented to not be drafted. Crazy, especially in a down draft.

oh okay, I disnt see that post, I thought u were saying the player type was the same..that's why I was confused. I agree with what you said thoughTerry_Tate;1464820 wrote:I said above that I view him kind of like Leonard in that Leonard wasn't a top 2-3 player on the Spurs but he was dynamite in his role and played great. If you give him 20 minutes he will get you double figures, how many will he give up is the question lolMulva;1464824 wrote:Maybe they can groom him as Matt Bonner's replacement. -
Hb31187I wouldve liked to keep Rudy dammit

Really? You see him averaging double digit points in the NBA? What, his rookie season? 2nd season?robj55;1464827 wrote:If you give him 20 minutes he will get you double figures, how many will he give up is the question lol
I just don't see it -

I could see it in a few years. Maybe 2nd season depending on what happens. Definitely think he has games where he comes in and has 10 points in 6-8 minutes of play though. Won't be often but it just seems like people look too much at his negatives and don't appreciate the fact that the dude can just straight get buckets. I mean, he was the leading scorer in the toughest conference in college basketball for shits sake.
Sorry, D Thomas got drafted, I need to stop going on these rants, lol. -
robj55
Not necessarily averaging that but what I mean is that if you give him those type of minutes he will produce offensively. He could come in and heat up quickly and can score in a multitude of ways. Could also see him being lost in some games as well and struggling. It wouldn't surprise me to see him score quite a bit off the bench. All contingent on how quick he can pick up the system and learn to play quality D. Also, what position do you play him at.SportsAndLady;1464835 wrote:Really? wildcats20Looks like the picks Boston is getting are completely unprotected.

The Nets aren't going to be picking in the lottery any time soon.wildcats20;1464901 wrote:Looks like the picks Boston is getting are completely unprotected. -

How did it crash and burn again? Nets went from one of the worst teams in the NBA into the #4 seed in the East. No one said they would be elite, but everyone correctly predicted that they would be much improved.Hb31187;1464741 wrote:Everyone said Brooklyn would be elite this year after a few off season moves and that idea crashed and burned. Now they pick up some vets who have the gas light on in their tanks and acquire a rookie coach.
Chicago plays good D yes, but they're also offensively challenged, especially when DRose comes back and their offense is basically "Everyone watch Rose dribble". And its not like when he does inevitably penetrate that he has anyone worth mentioning to dish too aside from maybe Deng from midrange. I agree with Amare needing to Gtfo though
As for the big trade, I like it a lot ... it helps the team immediately and actually opens up some cap space long term. Don't love losing all the picks, but like someone else stated, they will all be at the end of the draft anyway. -
Hb31187
Nobody said they would be elite? If we go back to last years NBA off season thread Im sure wed see quite a few posts of people saying theyre the 2nd best team in the E. Hell even analysts were saying they were the #2 team in the E prior to the season starting. And after one season they blow the team up and make a blockbuster trade because it obviously wasnt working. If thats not failing, then what is it?BigAppleBuckeye;1464957 wrote:How did it crash and burn again? Nets went from one of the worst teams in the NBA into the #4 seed in the East. Blow the team up? Getting rid of Crash, some part-time role players and picks is blowing the team up? Please explain.Hb31187;1464987 wrote:Nobody said they would be elite? Terry_Tate"The Spurs picked me and it’s a great blessing for them to pick me." - Deshaun Thomas from the Columbus Dispatch
Deshaun is such a great quote, Lol. -
friendfromlowryI don't really care for the what the Nets did because it seems like it takes quite a bit of time for teams to establish chemistry with new players. They landed two new starters and possibly a new 6th man while losing several guys. The Heat came close the first year but eventually lost to the team with better chemistry and experience playing together. The Lakers sucked all season and barely pulled it together in the end. Those are just a couple examples, but it proves that these guys aren't going to come in and immediately launch the Nets to compete with Miami and Indiana. Also, they don't have a lot of time, because the guys they acquired are fucking old (35, 35, and 37 years old.) Garnett especially probably doesn't have a whole lot of meaningful, impacting basketball left.

robj55Brooklyn kept their 3 best players, they certainly didn't blow anything up.
-
Pick6Let me know how that deal works out for Brooklyn when PP and KG retire in one or two years. They got shafted by Boston.

LOL @ thinking they'll retire after this season. Even if they retire after 2, you don't think there are other free agents they could get in replace of their salaries?
You're literally clue less on everything. -
AutomatikGarnett is 37. I'll be surprised if he plays past next season.
I see BK doing nothing worthwhile next year and him being like..fuck it, I'm out. -
Pick6
Guess we'll have to wait and see. I mean the Nets do have a history of great management. Joe Johnson, DW, Lopez, and Wallace sure worked out well for them. The Celtics know exactly what they're doing. They are done competing and are going into rebuild mode.SportsAndLady;1465446 wrote:LOL @ thinking they'll retire after this season.
