Well he and shurmur were both hired the same season, but not quite sure. I just remember stanford getting a big early lead on oregon a few years ago and deydurkie claiming we should hire Harbaugh. I made fun of him for getting his panties in a bunch over a 1 quarter lead, but it looks like deydurkie got that one right. That's why I brought up Harbaugh. Not sure if they had a chance, but Shurmur was a shitty hear and I knew it from the beggining. I would have taken another year of WoMangini over him.

Browns never purused him. Lamonte, errr, I mean Holmgren, was locked in on Shurmur from the beginning.

We operate philosophically on a field goal menality, and hence game plan as if others do as well.

I am positive that Shurmur was banking on the fact his defense wouldn't let them in the end zone, and that by being up 6 they don't lose the game on a pair of field goals 16-15 when they inevitably would have missed the 2 point conversion.

It is giving him a bit too much credit to think he had a reliable 3 yard play in his book that would have worked for sure given what we saw from that side of the ball yesterday.

Zero shot at Harbaugh. I think he would still be at Stanford right now had the 49er job not come open. He literally didn't even have to move from where he was living to take over in San Fran. He got a huge paycheck and alot of organizational power. He had enough leverage he was one of the few in position to wait for the right job to open instead of having to take first available as far as getting to the NFL.

shurmur said if he had to do it again, he wouldn't have gone for two again. likes the way he played it. WTF. everybody in the stadium knew to go for two. and you know what else pissed me off right before half when we got the ball with like a 1:20 on the clock and two time outs. spread it out wide and pass the fucking ball. dont run the ball three straight times then try a swing pass to owen fucking marecic. my left nut could do a better job then that scrub.

Shurmur is such a dumbass. He better get canned after we go 4-12 this season. He's fucking horrible.
  • Commander of Awesome
SMH, I can't even read Shurmur's BS with a straight face. Just STFU shurmur. You blew it big time and I'd have a hard time following your company line in the locker room.

Shurmur failed a basic arithmetic test on Sunday, and he's supposed to lead our team into the playoffs? What a fucking joke, time for the next HC in cleveland. He doesn't have what it takes.
  • wes_mantooth
I can not wait for Haslem to get his hands dirty with this mess.....Shurmur needs to go. He has no business coaching any position, especially being a head coach in the NFL. He is not a smart man.

It's still beyond me why he didn't go for 2. I can't think of any logical reason why he didn't go for 2.
The logic is simple really. If you go for one...and then tack on a field goal later...which we probably would have done with McCoy in there after the field goal miss...the game is over...as in clinched. 9 point lead 2 possesions...8 point lead one possession. Going for 2 with a quarter to go is not a good statistical probability...especially with Weedon in the game. Browns would make maybe one out of 5 times.

I say all this after watching Pittsburgh go for 2 and make it last night...with the exact ssme scenario and the exact same amount of time left...14 minutes in the 4th.
  • HitsRus
^^^ pretty much agree with wedge...with 14 minutes left, you have to figure Philly would have at least 3 more possessions, ...maybe even 4 ...especially since we have no way of running out the clock. If you go for 2 and miss (probably) 2 FG's beat you. But if you take the sure PAT they have to get into the endzone to beat you. It sucks that they did...

I posted that rational on the game thread during the game.

I am the first to pile on Shurmur, but with 14 minutes to go it was too early to go for 2. If it was 4-5 minutes left absolutely go for it, but when they could still have 2-3 possessions it was too early.

Especially when you consider that they were piling up yards at will on our D. They made plays and got turnovers, but getting into field goal range for Philly was quite easy considering the ease with which they moved the ball.

Had he gone for 2 and not gotten it (a tremendous possibility, we are then only up 5 with 14 minutes to go against a team that has moved the ball pretty much at will all day. I would rather have lost the game forcing them to get into the end zone than just kicking a pair of field goals over that time as the D had been good with the bend but don't break stuff.

The going for 2 thing is so debatable....I would have liked to see them try it just because it is an aggressive call. There is nothing aggressive about Shurmur, he is a bum.

Definitely a lot of more troubling things happened yesterday than that one decision. The fact that our qb did not make one single play, the defense dropping the game clinching...easy int, and our terrible offensive line....are much more concerning.

I will not call a qb a bust after one game...but he did not look like he belongs...hasn't passed the "eye test" since preseason began. If he doesn't work out and we blew another first round pick....we are screwed for awhile.

He didn't look good in the preseason playing against vanilla defenses. I just don't see it getting any better during the regular season.

right. I just wanted to see that one play where I see what the front office saw when they reached at 22. I haven't seen that "flash" where you are like...."aww, shit, he might be a good one"

I understand that logic, but going for 1 there just means you're a huge sissy, in my opinion. You go for 2 and try and go up a TD. Then you can't lose (unless of course it's in OT). You go for 1, you're giving them hope to win.

Have some balls and confidence that you can score from 3 yards out. As a coach, you HAVE to have a play in the back of your mind to run when you REALLY need it from the goal line. Use it, you idiot.
