Chicago Cubs (Chris Volstad) vs Cincinnati Reds (Mat Latos) - Game 4
-
Ironman92Let Heisey be claimed off waivers for virtually nothing and give Hamilton his spot. Everybody is happy.

Ironman92Let's think about this.....
The Reds breeze into Sept 15th with a 14 game lead and everyone is doing as they are now. Let's say Hamilton gets 8 starts (5 in CF) and goes about 10/31, makes the Stubbs plays in CF but steals 11 out of 12 bases and gets 18 of 20 for the month with the pinch-running added and seems able to steal at will?....and seems to own the opportunity and the loves the light.....
Then what?
Think about what ridiculously young rookies have done in the World Series this generation with guys like 19 year old Andruw Jones in Yankee stadium, barely 20 year old Edgar Renteria in game 7 of the WS....K Rod?
If he gets a small chance and owns it....I'm going with him in the playoffs.
But this is all silly cause Dusty will rest everyone in Sept except for Stubbs, Bruce and probably Phillips. I'll be surprised if he gets any starts in CF and less than 5 overall. -

Can you imagine a 2-2 game in the 8th inning with Meso getting a hit and one out and here comes Billy Hamilton out of the dugout in GABP.....ELECTRIC, pressure will go to the pitcher/catcher. I bet their will be a buzz on the road. Relief pitchers want no part of this kid being called up. You guys remember what Vince Coleman used to do to pitchers....nervous wreck.
The Reds fan-base will go bazerk whenever the call is made....it'll be Chapman-like with the entering the game anticipation.
Can't wait. I love athletes in their sport that can do things that no one else can do.
I 100% agree with all of this. GABP would be electric with Hamilton on base. Can't wait to be there for his first game. -
Azubuike24He's the starting CF. The guy is 21. It's not like he's 18. Many, many players younger than him are starring in roles already. A few in the past have played key roles on playoff teams. Miguel Cabrera at 20. Andruw Jones at 19. Justin Upton at 19.
I think this is a long shot to happen, as I just don't see him getting that kind of opportunity (whether he should or not is another debate). -
RotinajAs long as dusty doesn't sit the Toddfather more than 1 game in a row I no longer care what he does with Stubbs. Trying to figure dusty out is harder than trying to do a damn rubiks cube blindfolded.

Yea, no way this is happening, not with Dusty leading the team. As soon as they decided to leave Hamilton at SS in Pensacola, that killed any opportunity of him doing anything other than pinch hitting/running in September.Azubuike24;1250424 wrote:He's the starting CF. SportsAndLadyYeah but Walt doesn't really believe in A to AA to AAA to the big leagues mentality. See: Mike Leake, Jordan Smith

So? Leake and Smith came up and continued to pitch. Hamilton has never played anywhere but short. To be on the postseason roster, he has to be on the 25 man by next Friday. I just don't know if that is going to happen.SportsAndLady;1250543 wrote:Yeah but Walt doesn't really believe in A to AA to AAA to the big leagues mentality. See: Mike Leake, Jordan Smith
So many people said that Adam Dunn had to be gone because he played terrible defense. Now, a lot of those same people want to bring up a fast shortstop and throw him in the outfield when he has never played there. I could see it if we were the Cubs and 26 games under and out of it. The Reds are 26 games over and playing for home field. We are about to add an MVP to the lineup, so I say go with what got you were you are. -
SportsAndLady
What do you mean "so?" Walt doesn't matter where you are playing in the minors, if he thinks you'll be helpful to.the team, he'll bring you up...and I named 2 examples. My point wasn't if he'll contribute ,it was that Walt will bring anybody up. Hamilton, in my opinion, has a 95% chance of being up in September.slcoach;1250607 wrote:So? Oh, I think there is little doubt he will be up. We were debating whether he would be up in time to make the playoff roster, and actually contribute as an outfielder, as some had suggested.SportsAndLady;1250644 wrote:What do you mean "so?" Your two examples were pitchers. How many guys has Walt brought up and stuck in a position they have never played before?SportsAndLady;1250644 wrote:What do you mean "so?" There is no point in calling up Hamilton in September. If he comes up and tears it up, the organization will look bad for not doing it sooner. I would love to have him on the roster, and I do think you would get a lot more out of him than some of the guys currently on the roster. But, with him only having played short, I just don't see him on the postseason roster. If he does come up, it will be after September 1st and he won't be eligible for the postseason. -
thavoiceSLow your roll everyone.
Do you REALLY think that they will let Hamilton LEARN CF while playing in the bigs when the reds are going to be in a pennant push?
He will learn it in either fall/winter ball and ST next year...not with the reds this fall. -

That is exactly the point I was trying to make. -

Agreed. His role in September will be pinch running or hitting. That's it. -
Midstate01Unless they clinch. Then he will get a start

SportsAndLadyI think he'll be starting by the start of the playoffs...just have a feeling.
Its not like stubbs is any good, and heisey fucked dustys mom so he ain't starting. -

Guess I was wrong.
Think about it...do you REALLY think they will take a career SS and move in into CF in the pennant push and postseason?
If so....then you are a baffoon. -
slcoach
Why would they move him to the outfield and start him going down the stretch when he's never played there and the team has the 2nd best record in baseball? That makes no sense. He won't be on the playoff roster anyway.SportsAndLady;1250765 wrote:I think he'll be starting by the start of the playoffs...just have a feeling.

Jesus christ, he's a fucking major league baseball player, I think he'll be okay playing the fucking outfield. It's not like he's transitioning from Offensive Guard to Quarterback.thavoice;1250798 wrote:I thought you had more sense than that.
