Cincinnati Reds (B. Arroyo) at Chicago Cubs (T. Wood) - Game 3
-
Azubuike24It's been a while. August 11th is a good day to make another run at starting the game thread.
Facing a former Red. Both pitchers suck. If the ball is moving like yesterday, we might have another good one. -
Terry_TateReds win 5-4. Stubbs gets on base 3 times and scores twice. 50/50 shot he hits a home run.
-
jordo212000Wood was bad. We got a steal in that trade with the Cubs.
Seems like boy wonder Theo Epstein has made more bad moves than good ones in Chicago (save the Rizzo deal. Still have no clue what SD was thinking) -
Midstate01Votto had to go back to cincy to have another procedure done. Said it adds 7/10 more days to his timetable for return. Starting to get the feeling this will wind up worse then we thought. Other guys HAVE to step up again.

Ugh. Not good -
Ironman92Votto won't be able to qualify for any statistical titles by the time he gets back.
I know that's not what is important. -
Azubuike24He had knee surgery. Anyone who has a previous knee injury knows there's no way it's a 2-3 week thing. Sure, maybe you can grin and bear it for a certain time, but there's usually a good deal of that going on BEFORE and what eventually becomes too unmanageable to avoid surgery.
While he might end up returning in 4-5 weeks, I have a hard time it won't bother him for a lot longer. There's no rush to bring him back right now. -
zach24ozLuddy continue his hot streak with another dinger? I'll say he goes deep again today. How's the wind at the stadium today?
-
Midstate01Those types of innings really piss me off.
1 pitch out
1 pitch hit
2 pitch out
1 pitch out -

Huh? I disagree with this. We desperately need his bat. -
Azubuike24Not if he's still got pain. I'm not him but I know personally, I found it very difficult to even do anything with a bum knee. It affected me mentally because it's such a critical part of an athlete, especially a baseball player.
The Reds are floundering a bit, but still have the best record in MLB. It would take an absolutely epic collapse for them to miss the playoffs. Now, if we're talking about going for home field advantage in the NL, then maybe there is a rush, but I think the front office made it quite clear they were not trying to get home field otherwise they would have made a harder push to improve the club. Even now, they could. Lyle Overbay is out there. He could be signed, fill-in at 1B until Votto is back and then either A) be cut or B) come off the bench.
I mean they are starting Miguel Cairo sometimes at 1B... -

3 games back of Washington for best record, but I agree with the rest. -
Midstate01When they talked to the trainer. He made it sound like Joey slid wrong and basically hurt himself.
Why the hell is arroyo throwing balls right across the middle on 0-2!!?? -
Midstate01This starting pitching is slumping
-
Terry_TateCannot wait until the pitching comes back to a good streak. Painful to watch everyone struggle except Latos, Cueto, and Chapman.
-
mhs95_06DeJesus all over the 0-2 back door breaking ball and the Reds fall behind 2-0. Bronson missed his location a lot that inning, most notably on the 0-2 single by Clevenger, but I think he put the pitch DeJesus hit tight where he wanted.

Azubuike24I said it many times this year. With "cost effectiveness" aside, the Reds can't afford to run Bailey, Arroyo and Leake out there and expect to be an elite team. 1 or 2 of them are fine, but not all 3. All inconsistent. All too hittable. All with enough of a track record that there is no reason to believe there will be a huge improvement.
The obvious one to get rid of is Arroyo (which he will be soon, thank goodness) because of his salary. That also severly limits his value. Bailey and Leake are cheaper, but especially Leake has shown he's maybe not even a long-term MLB caliber SP for a contender. -
jordo212000Agree we need Votto to come back healthy, I just was saying we need him to come back ASAP. Unrealistic to believe the team can keep winning consistently with Cairo out there on a daily basis

Totally agree. When looking at a playoff series, I feel good about a 1-2 of Cueto and Latos. Outside of them, Bailey is the only other one I would have any faith in, and he's hit a rough stretch here lately. If they start Leake or Arroyo in a playoff game I feel that its an automatic L. Would love to see Cueto-Latos-Chapman as our top 3. That would just be nasty. -
mhs95_06With Rolen not able to stand up when they need him to play a lot, it would be nice if Ludwick would just play 1st base which could make a pretty solid line-up with Frazier at 3B, and Heisey, Stubbs, and Bruce in the OF.
-
Midstate01Jesus heisey. Fucking terrible!!!
-
mhs95_06Heisey blows his chance to get a run in from 3rd with one out with a pathetic AB!
-
Midstate01And we wonder why dusty gives him the ole fu all the time.
-
jordo212000Lol. Didn't see the Heisey AB but are we forgetting how awful that Stubbs and Bruce look on a weekly basis? Stubbs is the king of poor situational hitting

3 straight right down the middle. Fastballs, the only pitch he can hit! Still just stood here.
