Biggest Gap in Sports?

Ironman92I love baseball as much as anyone....but it's fairly common for big league stars who have been injured and they go down to A-AAA and struggle a good bit.
Also....Bryce Harper couldn't crack .250 in triple A and now he's over .300 in the bigs with an OPS over .935
Michael Jordan says baseball is hard. -

I HIGHLY disagree.ccrunner609;1199985 wrote:baseball takes almost no athletic ability like football and basketball but has a high end skill set. Golf is the same way.
The argument would be whether its easier to overcome mass ammounts of athleticism like basketball or unreall skill sets like golf. -
dlazzBaseball isn't a sport

Really depends on the position, but I'd say 95% of MLB SS,2B,RF,LF,CF have the ability to be a stud at another sport because they are phenomenal athletes. Maybe not a pro, but much better than your average Joe.ccrunner609;1199993 wrote:you want to argue this? -

Are you arguing yourself? Nobody runs, jumps, throws in golf. No comparison.ccrunner609;1199993 wrote:you want to argue this? -

Argue what? I know football and basketball require athletic ability. So does baseball.ccrunner609;1199993 wrote:you want to argue this? -

I'd agree with this. Not all baseball players are Todd Coffey. Just like how not all NBA players are Stanley Roberts. You have guys who are great at sprinting down fly balls in the outfield and catching them right before careening into the wall. Or diving for grounders and still flipping them to a base to get an out. Stuff I'd definitely call very athletic. Just because you don't have to be athletic for every second you're on the field, doesn't mean you don't have to be athletic to be good at the game.Wooball;1200031 wrote:Really depends on the position, but I'd say 95% of MLB SS,2B,RF,LF,CF have the ability to be a stud at another sport because they are phenomenal athletes. RotinajYou obviously don't watch any baseball. Many athletic plays made in the field EVERY game.

Michael Jordan should've tried baseball. Deion. Bo. -
lhslep134Hm. I've faced Mets 2nd round pick (2007) from St. Eds Scott Moviel. 6'10" righty who was touching 94 at the time. I've also played the Ritz Carlton where they have the WGC Match Play here in Tucson 2 days after the tourney so I would say I've played on pretty close to pro conditions. That's probably about as close to playing "against" a professional for an average joe like myself that you're probably gonna get (like Laley's Inverness story).
Ritz Carlton was a shitton harder for me than hitting Moviel (although Moviel is stuck in the minors so he's not an MLB pitcher, but he had some legit stuff). I played out of my mind and shot 84. I was exhausted after the round from the mental exhaustion of having to hit close to perfect shots almost every time. 140 is probably accurate for what the average joe would shoot if they counted every stroke at a pro course.
I can't speak to hockey since I never played, but I'll throw my cap in the ring for golf. -

Hb31187Baseball most def takes athleticism. But not NEARLY the athleticism of Football or Basketball

Pick6Out of sports I am familiar with (played or follow/followed), I will have to go with football. Each level up, the game is played a lot "faster". The pros are also the fastest and strongest along with the skill set to play the game.
I don't know about basketball. I've played against a few guys that play D1 during the off season. I would say their biggest advantage is they are more fundamentally sound. There are "average joes" in the gym just as athletic as they are, just as big as they are(some), and can shoot just as good as them. -

Lots of guys waaaaaay fatter than Kruk in the NFL. Fat doesn't necessarily mean unathletic. -
Ironman92Baseball.....those guys have off-the-charts eyesight, reaction time and hand-eye coordination....they aren't the "athletes" like basketball players.
I guess ask Dave Winfield baseball HOF but was drafted by the NBA and NFL. -
THE4RINGZI will say baseball also. The difference between hitting an 85 mph fast ball and a 98 mph fast ball is greater than you would imagine.

Ironman92Ok... We've went 100 responses without the answer.
The biggest gap in professional sports....
