Not bunts ha. I'm not sure i could get around on 95mph. I'd only get worse by the end, being tired from swinging, even with a light bat.

You could time up 100 MPH if you get to stand there and watch 10 go by first. Making contact is what would be tough, especially with the movement. But Id think with 100 swings, youd out one in play, but I doubt I am making solid contact to get a hit.

100 fastballs right down the middle? Yeah, you'd be able to time one and get a hit. If he's mixing in other pitches? No way in hell.

if he throws nothing but fastballs? yes. if he starts mixing in curves and change ups, probably not.

touche mr credible.

Yes.

NASCAR.

Jk, everyone knows that's not a sport.

I can't believe more people aren't saying football, though. I don't even think it's that close.
• gorocks99
I think it's because your average joe 20-something doesn't play football. At least, not football with pads and tackling. Guys play baseball, basketball, hockey, golf at the gym or rink or course but there isn't much of a amateur football circuit I don't think.
• Azubuike24
It's NOT basketball. There are talented basketball players out there who have never gotten above semi-pro leagues or low level competition who are very close in skills and athleticism to a guy who made the NBA. In fact, there are guys in the NBA or who have made the NBA who are WORSE than guys out there. Talent isn't what makes your basketball career successful, at least not primarily.

In other sports, if you don't have the physical ability or talent, you are simply weeded out and NEVER get a chance. If I had to say, I'd say it's football. Another is tennis, IMO. As someone who played for over a decade, the level of play from the top players, both in skills, hand-eye coordination and athleticism is crazy compared to even high school/college players.

Pretty sure the entire country of brazil could play on our national team so no, i don't think it's soccer.

Kurt Warner was bagging groceries then was winning MVP's and winning it all just a few years later.

I don't get your point, but the question was the gap between a pro and the average guy. I said in terms of SKILL, not cardio or ability to play. There is no question there is a huge gap.

It's a good question, you can make an argument for a lot of sports.

I'd go with baseball myself. Hell, it is the one sport where you kind of get to see the difference between pros and average joes when you consider how big the draft is and how every team has about 8 minor league teams. The (more-or-less) average joe would be that guy drafted in a low round who never made it past A ball. Might have been great in high school and/or college, but a complete non-factor even in the low minor leagues.

You raise a good point Heretic. I honestly dont think I could get around on a strasburg fastball. Not sure if you guys have ever hit high speed pitches, but last time at batting cage for teh lulz I went in the high speed one (70 mph?) and it hurt to even make contact. I can't imagine trying to hit a 95 mph baseball. I didn't play baseball in high school though, so maybe I'm a pussy.

I still think I'd stand a better chance in baseball than basketball. If Bob Wickman can play baseball, I'm sure I'd stand a better chance than trying to play against the Thunder.

Reps - Also, David Wells. He pitched drunk...

An average high school player could go in and make contact. It might be 1 out of 50 with any quality, but it's possible. Your average joe could never stop an elite PG in space or score on the best post-defender. They could never win a serve & volley point against an elite tennis player. It would take a blatent injury or mishap to happen.

I would agree with this, I just don't agree with CCrunner on the rucker park argument. Look at Kyrie's video, he goes in a schools people. He wasn't even trying. Avg highschooler/rec league player couldn't score a point, get a reb etc.. against nba players.
• Raw Dawgin' it
You can't teach height either. Most rec league players aren't 6'4 and over.
• End of Line
If we're going to use the rucker park argument, Maxim Afinogenov socred 17 goals in a pick up game in Georgia, and he's not that great of a player.
Some beer league hockey
players in Georgia were surprised last week when they showed up for a
pick game to find Maxim Afinogenov’s name on the list.
Obviously,
a pick up game isn’t going to be that competitive for Afinogenov and he
was invited to a league game later in the week. He scored 17 of he 29
goals in the game, as he switched teams in the middle of the game. He
also never left the ice in the second and third periods, as he was
hoping to work on his conditioning leading up to some international play
this summer.

Comparing the every day college athlete to a pro:
baseball - for a hitter, hitting the 90 MPH fastball is tough, but isn't terribly hard. But when you're mixing in 88 MPH sliders, 80 MPH 12-6 curves, and all those pitches that are different speeds and move like crazy. That's what separates the pros from the rest. The ability to adjust on the fly. For pitchers, the ability to throw those extra pitches and have complete command. Missing a spot by a half inch, could be the difference in a fly out and a home run.

basketball - when everyone on the court is 6'8" and you're used to playing with a bunch of 6'2" guys, that's going to change things.

football - the physical impact on your body, also the difference in speed. the defensive ends in college aren't like the entire defensive line in the pros.

hockey - just the way the puck is flying on the ice is amazing.

Heard a similar story with goalie Sean Burke.

Pros are incredible, no doubt. Which is why this is an interesting argument. I'm reading a lot of interesting arguments for various sports.
