Reds vs Indians....Game 2
-
jordo212000The team took off when Rolen and his 0 for 4 night's left our lineup. Was addition by subtraction. The other benefit was that it saved Dusty from himself. He couldn't plug him into the cleanup spot when he was on the DL

Hasn't needed too. I'm guessing he starts mixing it in. Hey If you can get a 100mph pitch 400 feet. Then tip your cap and get the next guy.
Reds win!! -

I didn't see the game, because I have a sweet job w/ sweet hours that prevent me from sometimes seeing the game, but what happened here lolwildcats20;1199042 wrote:Couldn't do that shit again if he tried 100 times. -
Azubuike24Acta blew the game by not using Smith and Sipp after Votto singled to start the 7th. You carry 2 lefty specialists for a reason. As soon as Phillips came up, it was a high probability the Reds would tack on an insurance run. The Indians knew it would be Marshall + Chapman against a lineup of almost all lefties. It was over at that point. Bad managing.

They have 2 lefties, but neither are specialists lol. Sipp has been owned in about 75% of his outings. Hagadone is much better, but he has been very, very inconsistent.Azubuike24;1199201 wrote:Acta blew the game by not using Smith and Sipp after Votto singled to start the 7th. Joey's AB consisted of him never leaving the box. Literally never moving his feet. He walked. And the tried stealing 2nd, was out by 3 steps.
The last quote is this.....and then Kipnis laid down a bunt that died right on the chalk about 6 feet down the line. -

Do you disagree they have to be used in that situation?Laley23;1199206 wrote:They have 2 lefties, but neither are specialists lol. Sipp has been owned in about 75% of his outings. Hagadone is much better, but he has been very, very inconsistent. -

Smith should have been used versus Phillips. But no way am I bringing in Sipp in a close game. Hell, he should be in AAA right now.Azubuike24;1199250 wrote:Do you disagree they have to be used in that situation?
Problem is, Smith was used last night, and he is our 7th inning guy (when leading). He would then be unavailable tomorrow, and Tomlin rarely makes it through a line-up 3 times. So if we are leading, we will need him.
I trust Hagadone (ugh, sucks to say it) against a righty more than anyone in the pen not named Perez, Pestano or Smith.
Lets just admit the Indians bullpen is a tragic mess. If they are leading, its practically lights out. If they are losing, just count on 3 more runs being given up. Its so sad. -
SportsAndLadyJesus..just saw BP's bare handed play..awesome

That makes zero sense to me as to how that happens lol other than if Acta uses their good bullpen pitchers when they're winning, and their bad ones when they're losing..is that what it is?Laley23;1199255 wrote:Lets just admit the Indians bullpen is a tragic mess. Phillips has come to play this series, as he always does versus the Indians. But seriously, just look at the season stats. Advantage definitely Kipnis.Midstate01;1199259 wrote:Yea... L.O.L!!!! -
Azubuike24Sipp is there to get lefties out. Regardless of how he's performed, you're absolutely risking nothing by playing the match-ups there. Maybe even Smith against Phillips and possibly Bruce, but the previous lefty against Phillips when he battled (and got whipped on a great at-bat) Votto...

a) advantage definitely not Kipnis if you JUST look at stats (which is a terrible way to look at it, but I digress).Laley23;1199262 wrote:Phillips has come to play this series, as he always does versus the Indians. But seriously, just look at the season stats. Advantage definitely Kipnis.
b) the argument was who would you take, not who is having the better stats this year. -

And I would take Brandon every day of the week and then some on defense.Laley23;1199262 wrote:Phillips has come to play this series, as he always does versus the Indians. But seriously, just look at the season stats. Advantage definitely Kipnis.
BP has played in 6 less games and the numbers don't say "definite advantage" Kipnis. They are very similar. -

Well yeah. We basically have 3 good bullpen pitchers. You really cant afford to use them in games you are losing, cause they will be burned out. Thats just too much pitching. It sucks, cause in close games (like the last 2 nights) you want to just use your guys and stay in the game with a chance to come back. But then you run the risk of not having them available in games your winning and blowing them....all while playing for a "chance" to come back. Like last night, we didnt come back to score, so keeping that game at 1 run wouldnt have mattered, and would have been a waste. But tonight, it wouldnt have. Kind of a catch-22.SportsAndLady;1199257 wrote:That makes zero sense to me as to how that happens lol other than if Acta uses their good bullpen pitchers when they're winning, and their bad ones when they're losing..is that what it is? -

I want to clarify on this...Kipnis is leading in almost every statistical category, I get that..but BP is definitely winning some and isn't getting crushed in the others. It's probably advantage Kipnis, but not "advantage definitely Kipnis".SportsAndLady;1199265 wrote:a) advantage definitely not Kipnis if you JUST look at stats (which is a terrible way to look at it, but I digress). -
Azubuike24Kipnis OPS is .797, Phillips is around .750. I'd say it's fairly close, and Kipnis is no doubt having a great year. Outside of Dan Uggla and Robinson Cano, both should be All-Star starters. Both have a good chance of making the team, especially Kipnis.

Wait..3 bullpen pitchers can't pitch in close games they are trailing in? lolLaley23;1199269 wrote:Well yeah. We basically have 3 good bullpen pitchers. Sipp sucks. He served up a HR to Votto last night, and the Indians simply dont have the luxury to use Smith as much as we would like. We used him while losing last night, and would have made him unavailable for tomorrow, when we might need him with a lead.Azubuike24;1199263 wrote:Sipp is there to get lefties out.
