justincredibleBoom. Our pitcher scored.

It's never a wrong play for the pitcher. For a positional player, sure, I hate the sac bunt before the 7th or 8th inning.Laley23;1197192 wrote:That does nothing for me. I am angered when teams sacrifice. Giving up an out, when the odds say its the wrong play. So stupid. -

There's just so much more that goes into the strategy of the game when you have a pitcher batting. When you go by playground rules and have an "all-time hitter," it takes all that strategy out.
Strategy! Key word. Very little of that in the AL. -
mhs95_06Santana got too excited when he saw he had a good chance for a pick-off!

Easy Billy Beane. That thought process is correct in the AL...with a DH. With the pitcher batting, those odds are different. You are giving up one out, instead of getting two (since statistically speaking a pitcher is more likely to GIDP).Laley23;1197192 wrote:That does nothing for me. I am angered when teams sacrifice. hoops23lol.. strategy. Right.
-
se-alumI like the pitcher hitting because it imparts alot more strategy into the game.

Exaclty my point though. Pitchers suck at hitting. Why be stuck in the past. Shit is changed in sports all the time to better the product. Why is baseball so slow at doing it (for everything, replay, etc).justincredible;1197199 wrote:It's never a wrong play for the pitcher. Because of tradition!Laley23;1197207 wrote:Exaclty my point though. Pitchers suck at hitting. Why be stuck in the past. Shit is changed in sports all the time to better the product. Why is baseball so slow at doing it (for everything, replay, etc).
So stupid to have two leagues with different rules. Makes no sense. -
Laley23
Right. So why not just get rid of the pitcher hitting, since they all pretty much suck.sherm03;1197203 wrote:Easy Billy Beane. That thought process is correct in the AL...with a DH. What strategy? Planning around automatic outs? Giving up outs for bunts? It's horrible to watch.se-alum;1197205 wrote:I like the pitcher hitting because it imparts alot more strategy into the game. -

So you are saying that you do NOT have to have a much different strategy when a pitcher is batting? Well, that is the complete opposite of what the entire baseball world would agree with. But I guess I'll just take your word for it.
I can understand that point. But while most pitchers are terrible at the plate, it makes the game much more interesting in later innings when you have to decide whether to let a guy hit or pull him, how to manage double switches, etc.Laley23;1197207 wrote:Exaclty my point though. Really? It plays a huge part in picking pinch hitters and who you call out of the bullpen. Whether you like it or not, to act like it doesn't change strategies greatly is just wrong.hoops23;1197213 wrote:What strategy? Planning around automatic outs? Giving up outs for bunts? Situational pitching exists in the AL. You still choose who to come out of the bullpen against certain guys.se-alum;1197216 wrote:Really? Hell, I could say the DH creates strategy on the basepaths late in games in the AL. How often does Hafner get on base to be yanked for a pinch runner? What's the difference? -
Laley23
I was just getting ready to post that actually. The strategic part comes into play with double switches and pulling your pitcher in a close game. I just dont like it. I think it sucks that your pitcher has to be pulled hen he is throwing a gem.sherm03;1197215 wrote: I can understand that point. The sac bunts pitchers lay down though =/= strategy. Its moving a runner up, thats not necessarily strategy. -
mhs95_06
Depends on who is batting and who is coming up. For instance, a very good reason for BP to be the lead-off hitter is that so many times the P can sac in front of him so 1B will be vacant to neutralize his propensity to ground into DPs.Laley23;1197192 wrote:That does nothing for me. The NL is the only league without a DH to my knowledge. Little League, HS, College, MiLB, all have DH.sherm03;1197215 wrote:So you are saying that you do NOT have to have a much different strategy when a pitcher is batting? This isn't the 1930's. I want to see the best hitters available hitting.
You got your slugging DH up in the 9th with the bases loaded in a tie game... There's no strategy in how the other team approaches that?
Let's say you have the pitcher up int he same scenario, instead you send a PH batting .210 to the plate. Exciting. -
BRFI agree with the OC Reds guys on the DH. I am old school.
Now I will become even MORE irrelevant on the Tribe threads. -
Midstate01The AL is retarded. Now back to the game.
Cueto is rolling since the first. -
hoops23The forward pass and 3 point line suck as well!
