More on Tribe Attendance Woes

I think objectively that you have to admit that the circumstances have changed. I still am critical of the organization and it's unwillingness to do/spend what is necessary to bring a winner. I still think that Dolan needs to pull the trigger( and take some risk) on deals that could make this franchise better. But as wedge alluded to in an earlier post, we were Indians fans back in the 60's 70's and 80's....and compared to then, this is a team to get a bit excited about.
Do I think the owner could do more? hell yes. Is the front office doing pretty good considering the resources it has? hell yes. I am disappointed that the fans have abandoned this organization., I am disappointed that corporate/business support has dwindled. I'm just disappointed that '455' really doesn't mean much anymore. All of this is just a vicious negative cycle.
The owner needs to show that he is committed to putting a winning product out there...and the fans needs to show they support it when he does.
I completely disagree. The front office has set the franchise back on the cc and lee trades. Those are trades you can't miss on because your trading 2 cy young winners away. As for Dolan you have to spend money to make money. Until the tribe are in contention till late August September the fans won't show up because we saw what happened last year. If he can't afford to put an extra 10-15 mill into the team then he needs to sell because it's not fair to the fans of Cleveland. -
HitsRusI'm not going to lay that fiasco entirely on the front office. They were told to dump salary and get the best deals they could, and that is on the owner. At the time of the CC deal, it wasn't all that bad on paper...LaPorta being the #1 prospect in the Brewers organization, and Brantley being a pretty good one too. The jury is still out on that one...Brantley has turned into a pretty servicable and solid player. La Porta may still develop. What do the Brew crew have to show for 'rent a pitcher'? ZIP.
The Lee trade is another story...and a sad one at that. But the question remains, ...how long are we going hold it against them?....how long should we throw a hissy fit? -

Like I said winning cures everything. If the tribe make the playoffs no one will care about those trades anymore. -

A playoff appearance. Something we have ONE of as well. They also capitalized and made their team better (Greinke) and made the playoffs again last year.HitsRus;1198511 wrote:I'm not going to lay that fiasco entirely on the front office. No we don't, we have no playoff appearances since trading CC.Laley23;1198528 wrote:Something we have ONE of as well.
As for the Lee trade, jury's out on Carrasco because of the injury, I'm just furious the Phils wouldn't give us Drabek then turn around and give him up for Halladay. We should have held out for Drabek. -

When did I saw since trading CC? This whole conversation is about since the attendance has fallen. We have 1 playoff appearance since then.lhslep134;1198565 wrote:No we don't, we have no playoff appearances since trading CC.

Well you bolded a line talking about what the Brewers have to show for since getting CC so I thought that was your time frame of reference.Laley23;1198573 wrote:When did I saw since trading CC? HitsRusI still don't see how you fault the front office for the CC trade....he was gone at the end of the season. They got some good top prospects. That LaPorta hasn't translated to major league performance is not something that could have been predicted. That's a stretch to say the CC trade got the Brewers a 'playoff appearance'. They probably would have had it anyway for as much as CC contributed. Even with him it was a short run....out in the first round.
My point is that all that stuff is ancient history. If you are actually a 'fan' in the true sense of the word, how long are you going to hold that against them? The point Wedge and I are trying to make is that there are not really many true fans....gone is that illusion. -
Con_AlmaThere was no way CC was going to be an Indian after that year. It's not like the front office had options.

hoops23I'm ok with the CC trade. He was gone anyway and we landed LaPorta and Brantley. Brantley is playing very well so at least we got something.
The Cliff Lee trade was the one that everyone is pissed about. We got bent over with no lube. He was still under contract for 1.5 years and we got trash. -

They traded him a month before the deadline. They had the option of not panicking and making teams bid against each other to raise the asking price, like a savvy front office would have.Con_Alma;1198883 wrote:There was no way CC was going to be an Indian after that year. How they did it can certainly be debated but they didn't have a choice but to trade him was my point. He was gone.Mulva;1199094 wrote:They traded him a month before the deadline. Laley23I dont mind the CC trade. But to say the Brewers didnt cash in on the return is stupid. It was arguably the best rent-a-player in history.
