    I just read that Euro 2016 will have 24 teams. Did anyone know this? I don't like it.

    I hate it. 16 is perfect. 24 teams from one continent is way too diluted down.

    The last 4 teams eliminated from qualifying: Estonia, Montenegro, Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovenia. Plus 4 more? Yuck.

    I'm a bit biased, but I think Turkey would have made the tourney a bit more competitive, but the other teams.. smh. Way too dilluted for me with 24 teams. 16 teams is why I love the Euro cup to begin with, it's so competitive in every group. Ireland might have looked like shit, but they are still a pretty damn tough team. They just happend to be in a group with some other pretty damn good teams. Setting it 24 teams will turn this into the WC, where you have a cupcake every group.

    The only good that would come of moving to 24 is no more groups consisting of Germany-Portugal-Denmark-Netherlands. 4 of the best 8 (according to FIFA rankings FWIW), in the same group is BS.

    And there is why they are moving to 24 teams. They want Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, etc making the next round consistently, not knocking each other out in group play.

    With that said, I still hate it. To me, one of the biggest draws of group play is the chances of some of the better teams being knocked out so quickly.

    I don't mind the change. Just longer, more games, and a chance to see other/lesser teams compete. More like the WC...I'm all for it.

    Yup. And it makes $$$ sense, more games, tourney lasts longer. Are they adding a round of 16?

    24-->16 isn't cutting enough and 24--->8 is cutting too much, but there's no way they mess with byes and stuff.

    2016 will be like the qualifying. You will have 6 groups of 4. Top 2 advance plus the top 4 third ranked sides (for round of 16). I kind of like it, because it is going to make group play fucking crazy. However, it is pretty diluted...which will suck.

    Oh ok, lol.

    I like that group play will be crazy with the 3rd place teams possibly advancing. Pretty good chance every team will have a shot going into the last day, which is awesome. But then the fact that the good teams are pretty much assured of advancing, that part sucks.
