Nope. Injured. But he is available. Obviously Italy hoping they dont need him. If they are tied or behind, Id say we see him in the 60-70th minute.

Goal for Italy, just what they needed. Should results hold, Italy and Spain advance with the Italians winning the group.

Italy can't be content with their 1-0 lead. It bit them in the ass the last 2 games they played. Spain will probably increase their tempo now that they know winning the group isn't secured.

Power went out in the storm so I missed the goal...

Header off a corner. Off of Given, and Damien Duff cleared it off the line into the crossbar and clear. But it ha just gone over the line before Duff cleared it. I thought they may need to use the 4th official for once, but the referees were all over it from the start. Definite, but close, goal.

Come on Spain, want you to win the Group so you stay on the opposite side of the bracket.

Or lose I guess so you miss the knockout round...I'm confusing myself.
  • gorocks99
Wowww, Croatia almost scores. That would certainly be the upset of the tournament!
  • Laley23
Casillas was huge there. What a save.

In the 3 way tie what is the tiebreaker? Right now Spain and Croatia lead in Goal Diff.

I thought Italy has to win by 3 to advance if the other game was a tie?

That's what someone said the other day on here...

    Here's how ESPN explains it:

"if these current results hold creating a three-way tie at 5 pts among Italy, Spain and Croatia, the three matches among the tied teams would be: Spain 1 Italy 1, Italy 1 Croatia 1, and Spain 0 Croatia 0.

In a three-way tie the first tiebreaker is GD in the matches involving the deadlocked teams- because all three games would have ended in ties, all three teams would have a GD in the relevant games of 0.

The next tiebreaker is goals scored in the matches involving the tied teams- if these results hold that means Italy wins the group with 2 goals scored in the pertinent contests and Spain and Croatia would be tied with 1 goal scored.

The next tiebreaker would then be GD in all group games which would make Spain the runner-up."

Someone wanna give a brief tie breaker rundown...for whatever reason I haven't researched it yet lol
  • Laley23
I think it is so dumb that they got rid of Goal Differential for the 1st tiebreaker.
  • chicago510
Ok...so they throw Ireland out and re-run the tiebreakers? Thats how it sounds to me.
  • chicago510
    • Italy win, Croatia 0-0 Spain - Italy first, Spain second
    • Italy win 1-0 or 2-0, Croatia 1-1 Spain - Spain first, Croatia second
    • Italy win by two clear goals and score at least three, Croatia 1-1 Spain - Spain first, Italy second
    • Italy win by four or more and score at least five, Croatia 1-1 Spain - Italy first, Spain second
    • Italy win, Croatia 2-2 Spain - Spain first, Croatia second

Here's an idea. Get rid of ties.

Pretty much. In a three-way tie scenario, the tiebreakers are:

    1. Goal differential in games involving the three teams (Italy v Spain, Italy v Croatia, Spain v Croatia)
    2. Goals scored in games involving the three teams (Italy v Spain, Italy v Croatia, Spain v Croatia)
    3. Goal differential in all group games (here's where Ireland enters the picture)

In a two-way tie, head-to-head is the first tiebreak, which is why Greece advanced over Russia from Group A.

That would be a bad, bad idea. Only time ties are stupid is when its a friendly match, and who gives a fuck what the end result is.
  • gorocks99
Anyone else hoping for a Croatian miracle? Spain is fun to watch but it would be a HUGE upset if the Spanish went down now and missed the knockout stages.

Not at all. Germany being the only top tier (imo) team left would suck.

    Ties are always stupid.

Coming from an NL guy like yourself, thats surprising to hear. It adds 3x more excitement and strategy to tournaments/qualifying/league matches. :D

    Here's a strategy. WIN. lol
  • wildcats20
Anyway. How is this game only 1-0???

Not watching obviously, but I'm looking at the stats. On paper it looks like it should be something like 3 or 4
  • chicago510
Desperate Croatia against timid Spain. Who will prevail? Italy also only one Irish miracle from being out.
