After two weeks of what Tirico and Gruden called "sixth-round draft picks" acting as NFL officials, I think it's time for Goodall to pony up and return the real officials. The NFL wants us to believe they are putting on a world class sporting event, yet they give us officials who couldn't even get jobs in mid-level college conferences. We're starting to hear from the commentators and it is just a matter of time before a head coach defies the league gag rule and criticizes the zebras in a post-game press conference. How long will the league accept this? These guys are so bad they are a walking, talking advertisement for using cameras and two guys in a booth to determine penalties.

The league does like $10 Billion a year in revenue, and are willing to soil the product like this with joke referees over a few extra million dollars in what amounts to a rounding error on their budget.

Roger Goodell is a chump and a hypocrite for allowing this to happen to the game. It is not these officials faults, they are trying their best but are just in way over their head.

If the league values that few extra million so much that they would prefer having announcers and fans literally laughing at the product because of the incompetency of the zebras then it says all we need to know about how Goodell and the owners feel about the integrity of the game and providing the fans the highest quality product.

I hope this debacle on a national stage like MNF tonight opens up some eyes in the Commissioners office that this has gone far enough.

What the refs are asking for is outrageously too much; I don't care if the NFL makes 100 trillion dollars every season, they shouldn't give in to the refs.

Tonight was bad, but so far this season it hasn't been bad at all. It's not like the regular NFL refs never have a bad game.

I guess Goodell should look at 1 MNF game and decide to bump up part time employees' pay 33%. :rolleyes:

The refs are wanting full pensions for their part time job. They are something like 46 million apart in their talks. The refs are being a bit outrageous in this. What they are demanding is way too much.

Screw the locked out NFL refs! They get a pension and full time pay for a job that works only a few hours straight and has a season that lasts about four months.

Offer them a 401K and HMO and tell 'em to stfu or they can go work for the CFL, eh?

I would agree with these about 3 years ago, but not everything Bellicheck touches turns into gold. Haynesworth and Chad Johnson come to mind.

True, but I look at Winslow as being more of the kind of guy he's gotten to work. Talented, but injury-prone guy who has a bone-head reputation (or at least had one with the Cleveland bike incident...he's gone under the radar enough that I don't know if he still is looked at as a moron), but wants to win. Fat Albert only cared about getting paid and when that happened, he shut off and I think as Chad got older, he started caring more about media-whoring for publicity. When the Pats told him to focus on football and not the other stuff, I think he lost interest in things, which is why he apparently was completely unable to learn their offense or whatever line got used for why he didn't do anything.

Just my opinion on those two, but they both were the sort of selfish player that seems to care more about what they want than helping a team to win.

Say what you want about Winslow but the guy wants to win and is a very hard worker. He may be a dumbass but he never quits and he's not really a me type player

It is a lockout, not a strike.

The officials wants to retain the pension already earned for current and retired officials and not have it taken away.

The NFL wants to add four crews (I see it is now quoted as three crews) to make it 21 crews, that would mean working 12 (13 if 20 crews) games instead of 15 games, therefore reducing the pay. I have seen the offer for pay increase anywhere from 3%-11% increase in pay per game.

I do not consider that anyone on a field only works 20 days a year.

Just like players, only the best get paid the most.

Now my opinion: As we have seen, taking officials from mostly the D2 & D3 (and some high school) level and putting them in the NFL is a drastic change in ability. It will get ugly week 1.

After week 2 of the lockout and I see that things are going well for the NFL. No problem putting D3 guys out there with the NFL players. No problems with the time it takes to play a game. No problems administering the game. I have not even mention judgement calls yet. I guess they can take anyone from a lower level and stick them in. Enjoy the season guys.
