NFL HOF Class Announced, Cris Carter Shafted Again.

Also, Martin didn't get in on his first ballot. He was eligible last year.

Also I'm not saying Curtis Martin isn't a Hall of Famer because he is. Just not sure he's 1st ballot especially over guys like Carter and Reed. Martin was a great back, but a lot of his success was based off of his longevity. Not that there is anything wrong with that but it certainly should be taken into account. You talk about the best power running backs in NFL history certainly names like Campbell and Brown come up but Bettis is in that conversation. With Martin, it was just about solid consistent production but nothing spectacular. I also factor Super Bowl rings into the evaluation, which Bettis has.
His stats were already posted what more do you need?

I'm not sure how you can disparage Martin's numbers as being the result of longevity. The man rushed for over 1000 yards for 10 straight years, including leading the league in his second to last year. That's damn impressive. Also, if you take out Bettis's last two season (when he stopped being a featured runner) his YPA stays about the same (3.96 compared to 3.92). I would argue that Martin was just as much of a work horse at Bettis, he just didn't have the traditional build of a wrecking runner. Martin's contributions to the passing game can't be overlooked either.

Look I think Bettis was a great player and will, rightfully so, be in the hall some day. However I think Martin definitely deserved to go in first.

    Let's see...

    Receptions
    Receiving yardage
    Touchdowns

Christ you effin HOF voting morons. The guy has top 3 all-time receiving stats.....known for catching touchdowns and having some of the best hands in football history.

He's a HOF lock....get your heads outta your asses.

    Reps for you.

Moss and TO might be the last guys to get in for wr, it will be difficult for any wr to get in after that because of the passing yards being so inflated now

I'm okay with this class. Carter should've made it but I can't say whose place he should've taken.

    Chris Doleman and Cortez Kennedy?
  • GoPens
Steeler fan here and got no problem with Martin getting in before Bettis. The Bus will get in next year. The fact that 2 Steelers are going in probably didn't help.

The NFL Hall of Fame remains the NFL Hall of Good. It is really a joke who they let in.

    Edit: double post

I was pretty young during Cris Carter's prime, but did the media hate the guy or something? It is beyond me how the guy has not been selected for the HOF yet. Top 3 in the most important statistical categories for a WR, and the guy still isn't in??? What the fuck else was he supposed to do? It's a complete crime that he didn't get in, along with Bill Parcells. I would easily take 2 guys off the current list now to put those 2 in.

With the way the voting works I don't think you'll see all three, or even two, of the receivers as finalists. On top of that they clearly don't know which one they want to vote on first. It's not going to get any easier for any of these guys either. Next year Jonathon Ogden, Warren Sapp and Michael Strahan are all eligible and all could be first year enshrinees, or at the very least finalists which takes away 3 of the 5 spots.

First off, all the choices for this team are fine with me, but like every year I think there are some very deserving players left off. With all the emphasis put on Super Bowl rings' Charles Haley with 5 and Debartalo with 5 being left off ? Gimme a break. No Chris Carter? Bull shit ! And to take it farther some of the guys that didnt even make it to the finals like guard Jerry Kramer (Packers) Ray Guy not being in because they traditionally do not enshrine punters is a travesty......Ken Stabler actually has better stats than Joe Namath......And dont give me this crap about because of the inflated passing stats in the league now will make it harder for a WR to get in....if that is the case then there are a lot of QB's that will not make it.....This is basically a popularity contest.....They need to change the way the voting is done, maybe something like having the players in the Hall also having a vote etc

Unfortunately it's not going to get any easier for Carter to get in these next few years with a lot of great names coming up. If Marvin Harrison gets in before him then you know there's something wrong with the system.

You do realize that Joe Namath was a major reason why the AFL and NFL merged right?
  • Mr Miyagi
Joe Namath career playoff record 2-1, just sayin.....yes he won a Super Bowl, but thats all I am giving him
  • Skyhook79
Joe Namath was the first QB in history to throw for 4000 yds and he did it in a 14 game season in 1967. No one else did it until 1979.
  • Ironman92
    Suzy Kolber voted no.

Jerome Bettis had to overcome obesity to succeed, so he may be more deserving

Cant' believe Carter was screwed again. It really is getting ridiculous at this point. The whole thing with the HOF and wide receivers has always baffled me.
It is complete B.S. I liked what Jerry Rice had to say about it.

He also had a pimp-ass fur coat.

    What did he say.

Also, I can't help but lol at rock crying, because I said Whines Ward wouldn't be a first ballot HOF, and was a borderline HOFer at best. If Cris Carter has to wait this long, Whines Ward sure as hell won't be a first ballot HOFer.
