Bruce Arians "Resigned" as the Steelers Offensive Coordinator

  • BearBoy69
Arians was announced as he retired, but word is Rooney II forced him out by not re-signing him, because he didn't like the pass-happy offense. I say that is B.S as Big Ben has flourished in the system, but the Steelers usually make good decisions, so we'll see. thoughts?

    OK.

    alright

Finally some breaking news we can use.
  • said_aouita
Knowing the Steelers track record of smart decision making, I don't question it.
  • BearBoy69
I'd be pissed too, but i thought they were better in the '04 Super Bowl than in years past as a run 1st team
  • THE4RINGZ
Ben is just sticking up for his guy. I think the O gets better without Arians.
  • ytownfootball
Their O isn't necesarily the problem as much as the O line is. Let's face it...the "they're old" crowd is starting to gain some momentum.
  • THE4RINGZ
When the Steelers went no huddle and let Ben call the plays this past season they were effective. With the same O line.

But I will agree, they need some new faces up front.
  • I Wear Pants
They shouldn't go back to run first but I don't think Arians was that great of a OC.

They need some new O-Line guys though.

Ben can only buy so much time given the personnel regardless. Steelers have known this for awhile.

Pouncey is a stud, Gilbert was up and down this season. Definitely a need that needs to be addressed in the draft or FA.

That crowd was talking mostly about the defense. The o-line has problems but age isn't really one. They just lack depth and stink except for Pouncey. If anything, there's some inexperience on that line as well, not so much an age problem IMO. At least not old age.

The 0-line can be addressed late in the draft and in FA. we need CORNERS

    "We" and you're from Wooster?
  • Automatik
I'm indifferent on the situation. I don't overly dislike Arians, but he was inconsistent IMO. One game he would like he was Jim Bollman and the next he was Mike Martz.
  • Terry_Tate
I heard they want to get an OC who will tailor the offense to fit Troy Smith.

haha i meant the Steelers. the big Woo isn't so hot in football. I get too excited during Steelers talk and being a hardcore fan i say we instead of Pittsburgh

Just like the Colts did this year with the 3 Qb's they used?
  • wgh raider
the steelers have some firepower on offense but they have to get an Oline who can play as a unit and not get guys who seem to be hurt all the time. this team has a serious problem with keeping people healthy.they have a punter sepulveda whos been in the league like 4 or 5 years and twice his season has ended early with a major injury.

Did anybody here the interview last week on "93.7 The Fan" Big Ben did? He said he was upset that Arians was leaving. Big Ben said "If I didn't like the play, Arians wouldn't call it". Now who's running the offense, Arians or Big Ben? Maybe thats why Big Ben hates to see him go because he had some say in the play calling.

Theirs going to be a "battle for the back ups" down the road in Pittsburgh. I heard rumors the Steelers are willing to "go big" on getting Tebow, if he's ever released from Denver.
Tebow vs. Troy Smith. That would make a good poll......

We all know the OL sucks and needs fixed.

I was never an Arians fan. The steelers offense is at its best when Ben is scrambling around. THAT is when the offense is best. something can be said aout an offense that is most effective when the protectoin breaks down and ben moves around and the receivers improvise.

They will not go back to the run first mentality they used to have. You have to take advantage of your strengths and Ben and the WR are the strengths, and that is the trending way to play in the NFL. Even the NYG are based on the passing. Yeah, they can run it but what has gotten them to this point? the defense resuragance and the fact that Eli is in a one passing the ball.

I like that Arians is gone. Of course BB is gonna be a bit mad about it, but ya have to wonder deep down if he thinks that a new start may be good becauase any OC that comes in will have to lean on him for major input. I think the offense will be more dynamic with a new OC becuase I think BB will have his imprint on it a bit more.

I agree with that. The thing I was starting to not like about the Arians offense is that it just seemed that they got TDs off big plays all the time, but struggled if they weren't getting that one big downfield strike to Wallace/Brown. It especially galled me during their playoff wins last year when they were jumping all over the Ravens and Jets in the first half...and then nearly blowing their leads in the second half, because they were playing more conservatively to protect the lead and simply weren't moving the ball at all. Just too much "all or nothing", which makes me nervous.
