espn Friday Night Fights 2012

There are still tickets still available for the Alexander fight. Actually, it looks like a pretty good value as the undercard fights begin at 4:45 Central time, with the HBO broadcast scheduled to start at 9:00. I'm tempted to hop on over to Scottrade Center for this. I'll need to see what seats are available, and at what price.

If there is a decent amount of tickets still available, try to see if you can get some for free. If there are enough open seats they will try to "paper" the arena so it looks like they had a bigger turnout than what they really sold.

There is also a decent ShoBox card on tonight. Jessie Vargas is a pretty good prospect.

I went over and checked it out. I could get a decent ringside seat (5th row) for only $250 plus service fees. I've decided to watch it on my big-screen HDTV. With Friday Night Fights and Showtime tonight and HBO tomorrow I should be in boxing heaven.

That main event on FNF was a joke. No way Cruz loses that big. I thought he dominated the last half, and the knockdown in the 9th sealed the deal.

Watching Showtime now (in between posting on OC).

I watched the Show fights not too shabby but some questionable officiating in both bouts.

Just got around to watching it. I had Cruz winning 95-93, he got jobbed bad. Julie Lederman turns in yet another ridiculous scorecard. It was a good fight though.
First fight was good too, always love it when a journeyman with a poor record scores an upset on fnf.
They were in a small arena but it looked full and the crowd was into the fights, other than the crap decision in the main event it was a good show this week imo.

FNF in Hollywood, Florida this week with light welterweights in the main event.

    Joan Guzman(31-0-1) vs Jesus Pabon(17-2)
Guzman used to be a highly ranked lightweight but failing to make weight a few times, pulling out of another fight and having a ridiculous decision go his way in Canada have knocked him down a peg with ever suffering an official loss.
This looks to me like Guzman is the ring with a carefully chosen opponent trying to make his way back to bigger fights.

Not sure what other fights will make it to the air. None of them look like they were put together for action to me.
I thought the same last week though and both fights turned out to be good.

    No FNF next week.
They need to take a week off after the garbage they aired Friday night. Bernardo's interviews with Floyd and Cotto were the best part of the show.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/dan-rafael/post/_/id/814/only-history-is-left-for-wladimir-klitschko

According to Rafael 50,000 people showed up to watch Wlad Klitschko crush another no-hoper. I don't know what it is with the brothers Klitschko. Neither has been in an entertaining fight in years but they both have major drawing power.

Afer a week off FNF is in Cabazon, California with what looks like a good show this week.

    Kendall Holt(27-5) vs Tim Coleman(19-2-1)
Looks like a solid match to me, Holt is a contender who has been around a while and Coleman was a rising prospect before getting beat by Vernon Paris in his last fight. Both guys need a win to stay in line for decent fights. Holt has always been a bit unpredictable, I've seen him get dropped then get up and KO the guy in the same round and I've seen drop his guy then get KO'd in the same round.
I'm picking Holt to drag himself up off the canvas and win this fight by tko.

Nice undercard fight with Abraham Lopez(16-0) vs Gabriel Tolmajyan(12-1-1)

I'd like to catch this, but the odds of my friends letting me change the channel tonight are nil.

Watched it this morning, good show last night.

Todd Grisham is miles better than Bernardo in the studio. Tessitore is miles better than Bernardo ringside.
Bernardo needs to get better or GTFO.

Glad to see Holt walk right through Coleman like that, was expecting a better fight but glad with the result. I hope Roy Jones jr stays in his corner. That left-hook to the body in the first round was wicked:)
First fight: So a guy slaps a commission in the face by failing to make weight on weigh-in day, refuses to get on the scale the next day and then strangely gets screwed when the scorecards are read after his fight.

Teddy railed about the lack of accountability for boxers.
He was fined 20% of his purse and screwed on the scorecards in a fight he won...............looks like he was held accountable to me.
It's not rocket science Teddy. Probably not a good idea to point it out on national tv though.

It was good fight at least and Toljmayan's lack of professionalism earned the fine and the screw job he got on the cards.
Lopez has guts but he's going to be in trouble when he gets in there with a decent opponent who takes him seriously.

FNF in Pharr, Texas this week with welters in the headliner.
    Antwone Smith((21-3-1) vs Roberto Garcia(30-3)
Neither are worldbeaters, both have a history of being slugfests, should be a good fight.
Tryone Brunson (21-1-1, 20ko's) vs James De La Rosa(20-1)
Brunson has the most inflated record in boxing, not impressed with De La Rosa either.......two boxers who suck in the ring together...

HBO has a good show on Saturday.
All-action, all-the-time Erik Morales vs young, unbeaten Danny Garcia
Jame Kirkland vs Carlos Molina in the first fight.
Can't imagine either of those fights not being good for however long they last.

    RIP to Bert.

    RIP Bert.

Lots of good fights this past weekend Bert would have enjoyed them.

Chad Dawson vs. Bernard Hopkins rematch for the Executioner's LH title coming up Saturday night on HBO. Then on Cinco de Mayo it's Mayweather vs. Cotto PPV. Decent undercard too as Shane Mosley will square off with young star Canelo Alvarez.

Been looking forward to these fights for a while.

My buddy will be in Vegas the week of the PBF fight and will be attending. I'm depressed because I was supposed to be going as well. I also hope Hop wins, I'd like to see him retire on top.

Anybody watching the Hopkins - Dawson fight? It's about to get underway...

Hoping BHop can win and then retires on top.

    Watching. Rooting for B-Hop too.

How about that Mitchell-Witherspoon fight? Entertaining for heavyweights. Mitchell, ex-Mich. St. player, is tough.

    Yeah it was.

BHop trying to frustrate Dawson... Caught him with an "accidental" head butt... Dawson would probably win if the fight ended now...
  • hoops23
These announcers are clearly biased against Hopkins though.
  • killer_ewok
Agreed. Dawson ahead. B-Hop has work to do.
  • hoops23
I think Hopkins took 7... Dawson looks like he's wearing down a bit. He's been pursuing and pushing towards Hopkins for 6 rounds...

Time for BHop to neutralize Dawson and take it to him
  • killer_ewok
End of an era. B-Hop didn't have anything for Dawson.
