Random NBA Chatter - Season long thread

I like Rubio because he is a true pg, not a shot jacker like Rose or Westbrook.

As far as defense goes, he was tremendous tonight. Denying passes, on the ball, help side and just random steals in scraps. His long arms, plus being 6-4, is a huge advantage to him. He is sneaky quick.

In short, I really like his game. Think he can develop into a very solid PG.
Tremendous on defense? Eh, we must have watched a different game. He was solid on help side defense, but he was getting burnt 1-on-1.

He was getting killed in the PnR as well.

He did play Billups well on LAC's last possession though...

And can pass the rock like Magic. He drops some dimes. Even had 2 tonight that Darko fucked up.

He will get his points also. From the line, transition and drives. But I love the passes he makes. Plus, he is an above average to very good defender, which is pretty much non existent in PGs recently. His line the other day versus the Pistons is what I like my PGs line to be (assuming they have scorers on the team). 9 pts, 8 asts, 7 rbs, 6 stls.

He was lock tight on Mr. Big Shot when it mattered.

When did he get burnt 1-1?

His game is tailor made for the NBA, up and down and in the half court run pick and roll, which he has been doing at a pro level since he was 14. The thing that has surprised me the most is his improvement in his jump shot. I know he struggled tonight but he has shot it well this year and has really good shot selection thanks to his high basketball iq. He shot like 33% last year in Europe.

^^^Yeah, he is over 40% from 3pt land this season.

He reminds me a lot of Jason Williams, although I think Jason was better in a lot of areas.

That's a decent comparison. JWill was quite a bit more skilled offensively and had slightly better handles.. They both are very good passers though.

A lot of people try and compare him to Pistol, and that needs to stop. Rubio is going to be a very solid PG, as I said, but I don't see "elite" PG in him. He'll be VERY good with good players around him, as he already has one very good player next to him in Kevin Love.

I also see LaMarcus Aldridge had 33/23 today in Portland's win over Toronto. LA is perhaps the most underrated player in the game.

Good comparison. But the biggest advantage Rubio has is in winning time he makes the right plays. Williams was too flashy, Rubio is flashy but not dumb flashy. He needs to develop a better shot that is consistent. But he looks like he will be solid. I keep forgetting he is only 21. We have known about him since he was 17, so it seems like he is 25.

As for the Pistol comparisons...lol. Pistol put up and would still be in todays NBA 40 a night.

I mentioned it earlier, but Rubio is a good defender. Very long arms for a PG. He's disruptive.

He obviously isn't a pure scorer, but he does enough on offense that I think he could average 12-15 points with 10+ assists and 5-6 rebounds.

Rubio is absolutely no threat at all on offense. Hes like Rajon Rondo...only not as good on defense, not as athletic, not as quick not as fast and about the same in the passing/rebounding department. Way too much of a liability

Wow. I didn't realize The Cavs were that bad. Lost by nearly 40 to the Bulls.

yea, Doc wants Rondo to take more shots because he is a liability on offense

Rubio didnt play versus Mo in the 1st half, when Mo dropped about 20 of his 25. He had fouls.

That LAC-Minny game was the best NBA game I've watched this year.

Until here recently, like part of last year and this year thus far...He was an offensive liability. The player who would guard him would just float around and double team, go under the pick and roll and dare him to shoot. I guess you know this though right? You cant be that dense can you?

Hell, he still cant shoot(im sure you'll list his fg % and pretend like he shoots that many jumper)so he really still kinda is a liability on offense

Yeah, guess he did get in foul trouble

Yeah, not to say he didnt get burned a couple times. But once Adelman decided to fight over the pick and roll and not go under so far, the game changed. They made that switch at the start of the 4th, when Rubio was put on Billups. I thought he did a really good job that entire quarter defensively. That was when Minny actually locked in on D as well.

I've never said he has a good jump shot. I've seen him score 30 points and lead his team in scoring a decent amount of times. That isnt a liability. A traditional PG shouldnt be outscoring the likes of Pierce and Allen.
  • Hb31187
Eric Snow and other guys with no offensive game have scored 30 too lol. If you're hot you're hot. And I would guarantee that most of those 30 pts were on transition buckets. Maybe I should rephrase, in the half court set, hes often a offensive liability
