The league is different now, more tailored towards the perimeter game and guard play than anything, all the rules favor them as well. Just a different era, but having a dominant big is always hard to come by, especially in this day and age. The NBA is more of a pick and pop or pick and roll league, and that's what they want because it's more entertaining.
And it was like that then, which again makes me question why they took a big with the 1st pick. Oden is a big man who didnt really score back to the basket too often, and had not even a slight jump shot (did fuck his hand up though, but before that I dont remember him shooting at all). Hed be a solid player, but Id see him being like Tyson Chandler,Marcus Camby, or some other players like that im sure im forgetting. Not that thats a bad thing, but KD seemed like the safer pick at the time. But i should be careful as to what i speculate, because COA might refer me for more GM jobs

Oden didn't play with his back to the basket in college? That's news to me, considering I saw every one of his games in college, many in person. Durant couldn't even bench 180 lbs coming out of college. HUGE flag IMO considering I was wondering if he could even last an nba season with his frame. Glad to see you're an idiot that can't recall the criticism at the time though.

Oh you mean the exact knock I listed about like like 5 posts ago?Strength. Glad to see your reading is up to par.

And how many of his points were on posts moves compared to Dunks(oden that is)? Probably a lot more dunks than post moves? safe bet

I can't tell you why they took him, but I do think they envisioned him dominating that position against almost everyone in the league and dominating defensively which probably had a lot to do with it. If he could stay healthy he could have very easily dominated his position just as much as Durant dominates his, just in different ways. Less scoring, more rebounding, defense and blocked shots. Chandler and Camby have no back to the basket games at this level that they have shown, while Oden has shown that and a face up jumper so I can't relate to those comparisons. Not really sure who I would compare him to.

All the draft sites said that Oden had little to no post game and just bulldozed over the players in college because he was bigger and stronger and that it wouldnt Translate. And since when did oden have a face up jumper?

The fact that he may of had his back to the basket but he wasnt scoring on many post moves. he would over power the players in college something he wouldnt be doing at the next level

You'd have to go old school for a comparison. Bill Russel was what I heard the most. This helps explains his #1 status. It wasn't even a debate among the media the way Rose Beasley was. It was Oden and everyone else. SMH, ppl so easily forget.

I watched him play when healthy in Portland quite a few times and he has a nice mid range face up jumper, and has a very good back to the basket game(much better than in college). He relies a lot on strength and not finesse but he has decent footwork on the block.
  • Hb31187
I do remember he had a decent left hand hook once in a while though. But I can safely say ive never seen him knock down jumpers, but i didnt watch him as much as you I guess

He doens't have an elite post game, but I would question who does?

"Oden has improved his post game, despite not playing for nearly two years. He can make his hook shots with either hand, can finish easily inside, is a good passer out of the post and has nice touch."

Scouting report coming into this yr, pretty solid I'd say.

Alright its time to change subjects, we don't agree HB. Nuff said lets move on before it turns into a pissing match.

Mavs are about to go to 0-3.

Oh and how bad are the Nets?
  • sleeper
Oden is absolutely a bust. But there's no doubt in my mind if he was healthy, he'd be at least as good as KD.

Deron Williams lack of help is killing my fantasy team. Lopez going down killed them IMO.

2 different positions and hard to compare IMO. Oden if healthy would have undoubtly been a beast, though an MVP candidate? Not even the biggest KD would have predicted that for him coming out.
