Top 7 NFL QB

Yeah, I'd say it's fair to have Roethlisberger at #4 without Peyton Manning in the equation

Smith has done a great job with what they've asked him to do, but he wouldn't be having near this year statistically if he played for Detroit, or Green Bay, or Cincinnati, or Houston. He's thrown for 201 yards or less in 7 of the 10 games this year and only has 2 passes of over 40 yards all year, which is tied for 26th as far as QBs go. He's having a great year and nobody would deny that, but it's honestly laughable to have him over Stafford and Big Ben, among others.
+1. Pwned. I'm surprised QQ4Fail hasn't edited your post and given you an infraction for making him look like an idiot.

yeah fly4fail, it's your personal opinion and all, but it's just dumb to put Alex Smith into the top 10 category.

    1. Aaron Rodgers
    2. Tom Brady (Normally Peyton would be here if not #1, except Rodgers is playing out of his mind right now)
    3. Drew Brees
    4. Eli Manning
    5. Tony Romo
    6. Alex Smith (I know, it seems weird, but take a look at his stats for the season)
    7. Matt Stafford

    On the Outside looking in:
Matt Ryan, Jay Cutler, Philip Rivers, Big Ben

Best Rookie: Andy Dalton followed closely by Cam Newton (who doesn't seem to be progressing).
You say this is based on current performance, yet you have Big Ben ranked outside the top 7, yet he is #7 in almost every stat catagory.

I go off of stats and my subjective opinion. It would be dumb just to rank the QB's off of the Quarterback rating and that be it. But I think it's funny everyone hates on the Alex Smith pick. There are too type of QB's... a gun slinger and a game manager. Favre was the ultimate gun slinger. Peyton Manning was the ultimate game manager. Tom Brady more of a slinger, but not as out there as Favre. Rodgers is just ungodly. I put Alex Smith in as a game manager. He's doing an GREAT job with the 49's. The team has one loss. His play has been a factor. He isn't making bad decisions and is doing what is asked of him. I don't think you can ask for anything more from a QB.

It's not like he's Tebow and just winning with shitty stats. He's winning with some of the better stats in the league. The one spot he is low is total yardage... but that is a way overblown statistic. How is all that total yardage working out for Cam Newton and the Panthers? TD:Turnover ratio is probably the single biggest stat in the NFL... and he is excelling in that area.

Too many people are letting their prejudice get in the way of actually looking at his performance this year. Based on this year alone... he is one of the top 7 QB's in the league as far as on the field performance goes.

WTF? If anything, Manning would lean towards that "gun slinger" category. A game manager is someone who probably passes in that 20x's per game area and relys HEAVILY on his running game and defense. That is NOT Peyton Manning. Early Joe Flacco/Ben Roethlisberger/Mark Sanchez were game managers (not Roethlisberger now though)

Ben isn't #7 in rating, but he is #7 in yards, completions, td's, and yards per game. #5 in yards per attempt (which is one of the most important stats IMO). I don't care about your alex smith pick, but when you average all of Ben's stat rankings together (the important ones) you get 7th on the dot. Yet you say you based it off of performance, and he is on the outside looking in. He also has his team at 7-3 and a half game back in the North. Yet you want to tell me he isn't a top 7 QB this season? Laughable.

I'd call Brady and Peyton "Field Commanders" and then the game manager vs gun slinger arguments start

Alex Smith doesn't put points on the board through TDs. Nuff said.

I don't base my terminology necessarily off of pass attempts per game but their style of play. To me Peyton Manning always seemed very conservative in making the smart through and taking what the defense gives then exposing them with a huge play action pass for a lot of yardage. He manages the game better than any other QB I've seen (well until Rodgers recently).

And I agree that Big Ben used to be a game manager bu is more of a slinger now.

As far as Big Ben not being in my top 7... as I said earlier, to me TD:TO is a very important stat for a QB (more so than yards). Big Ben has 16 TD's... but he has 9 INT's and 6 (or is it 4) fumbles lost. Either way he's just barely over 1:1. That brings him down a lot in my opinion.

smh at idiot cry4fail. Stick to stroking your penis to unwarranted infractions, because you obviously do not know what you are talking about.

Matt Stafford has 25 TDs to 10 Turnovers, which is a higher ratio than Alex Smith, but you have him below Alex Smith. Nobody is denying Alex Smith has done very well this year, but he's not even close to the top QBs in the league, and this is based on his career as a whole. Harbaugh's whole philosophy this year is to not turn the ball over and let the defense and run game win, which has been working since they're first in turnover margin and 6th in rushing, while 27th in passing. The reason Alex Smith hasn't turned the ball over like other QBs is solely because of the style. The 49ers have the fewest passing attempts per game. He's done very well, but you can't even compare him to Stafford and Brees and Big Ben because of what they're asked to do. Big Ben is asked to go win the game, Alex Smith is asked to not fuck it up.

Stafford also has Megatron... which helps out a lot. Crabtree is not nearly as spectacular.

And thanks for pointing out what Alex SMith is asked to do... that's my point. He does what he's supposed to. There is no reason Big Ben should be asked to win games... he does that himself. Steelers have a better defense and have some really good WR's. Big Ben puts the team in positions (because of TO's) where he has to win them games because of previous mistakes.

It's not like Big Ben doesn't have weapons around him and a great defense to help.

Actually the shitty ass o-line causes a lot of those turnovers. He leads the league in sacks. Now sometimes he holds onto the ball too long, but he is runinng for his life much of the time. Imagine if all he had to do was extend the play and not actually have to worry about dying

Since I haven't given one yet here's mine just off the top of my head:

    1. Aaron Rodgers
    2. Tom Brady
    3. Drew Brees
    4. Ben Roethlisberger
    5. Matt Stafford
    6. Tony Romo
    7. Matt Schaub or Eli Manning, pick one

To be fair, Alex Smith does not have a lot of receiving weapons, so I'll give you that. But still, it's just ridiculous to even have Alex Smith in the top 10 just because he doesn't turn the ball.
  • Mulva
Stafford, Big Ben, and Romo would be my 4-6, but they're all so far behind Rodgers/Brady/Brees that it really isn't even worth debating.

Romo would be #4 if he didn't make so many dumb mistakes.

Missing the point... I said it's not just the W but other stats like TD:TO ratio. Trent Difler's stats were pretty terrible during the year they won the Super Bowl.

    59.3% Completion

    1,502 Yards

    12 TD's, 11 INT's and 6 Fumbles...

I hear exaggeration is a good way to carry on a meaningful debate

So is being an idiot and sticking to your argument despite looking like a fool.
