MLB Hot Stove season

This is insane. 2 of the arguably top 5 hitters in baseball in an era with a lot of good hitters. They finished 2nd and 5th respectively last year in OPS. AL Central should be fun to watch. Can't wait for the Jimenez/Fielder battles.

Why will it be fun. Detroit, in all optimistic Tribe honesty, will have this wrapped up in August sometime. They may win the division by 20.

Only way they fall flat is if their pitching, after Verlander, falls flat.

Sure there line up looks great with fielder but really I think Martinez is more important to the tigers than fielder will be. Victor was so clutch and I believe lead the league in 2 out rbis. It should be a battle still in the central especially if choo returns to form.

    This.

Detroit already has the division wrapped up for the next 3-5 years and I'm LMAO. Hate to see the Tribe out of it but it's karma for Daddy NoBucks Dolan not willing to spend. $214 million is a shit ton but making a giant splash like that would've created a "buzz" and had Jacobs Field sold out.

A sold out stadium, even for 81 games straight, is a far cry from covering what that contract would cost.

What people are forgetting here is the Brewers, for being a small/mid-market, drew over 3 million fans the last 3 or 4 years, had a pretty historic fan base and a solid following in a fairly wide market. They still couldn't sign Prince. They couldn't sign Sabathia.

What makes anyone think he was even in the dreams of the Indians? Same thing with Joey Votto for the Reds. They have all of those things, draw pretty well, have a strong following and expanded fan base. Even with all that, they can't keep Votto...

Natinals say that if Bryce Harper is ready during spring training, he could possibly start the season with the big club.

He hit .256 in 147 plate appearances for the team's AA affiliate during his final stop of the season.

Also just read that Cincy is in the running for Oswalt now. Writer said the Reds would likely need to cut some payroll to make that happen though.

I wouldn't mind if we sent Homer Bailey packing for some 3B help.

Would love to see this rotation:
    Cueto
    Latos
    Leake
    Oswalt
    Chapman

Not sure what happens to Arroyo? Maybe they look to get rid of him as well. LeCure is a capable 6th guy if they do.

Better be a damn good 3B for Homer...

Why? He's wildly inconsistent. I'm convinced he's never going to take that next step. Might as well cut our losses before everybody figures it out

He'll be really good, still pretty young. I'm a big Homer fan so my opinions are probably different than most on the guy.

AJ Burnett close to being dealt to the Pirates

    Whatodyathink, Bucco fans?

If they can get NYY to eat his ridiculous salary, I think it is a pretty solid move. I think he was a Carl Pavano type. Just not cut out for New York. Send him elsewhere to lower pressure situations and he is fine. Still has good stuff.

Buzz sells shirts, national tv time which expands the fanbase and sells games out. Folks Prince Fielder is worth every penny. Btw read in the Detroit Free Press that Cabrera has lost 25 pounds and will be in much better shape this year. Watch out!

I don't think he's better than Porcello in all honesty and won't be more than a solid #3 tops. I don't want to be negative but I'm just not impressed

A solid #3 is exactly what the Reds need, with Cueto and Latos

He can't be worse than some of the guys they've dragged out to be part of the rotation. Not a great pitcher, but I think he'll be better in a below-the-radar situation than he was in Yankee-ville...unless being there has completely broken him.

Is the MLB going to its 10 team playoff format this year, or next year?
  • SportsAndLady
I'm pretty sure that's this year.

To add to it, from what I gather, the deal's with the Yanks for Burnett is looking pretty solid. Pirates are reported to be paying $13-15 million of his contract and giving up two non-roster prospects. As long as (considering the amount being paid) those prospects aren't any of the team's top 15-20 guys, that's cool.
