Azubuike24Reds fall asleep. A team who needs rotation depth? Boston signs Aaron Cook to a minor league deal. Top 5 ground ball pitcher in MLB and Cincinnati native who has said he would love to come home someday...
Perfect fit and nothing...wake up Walt! -
HereticThe Cubs signed former Pirate Paul Maholm.
One of those deals that could be good or a flop for them. Maholm was good last year, but had a bad record due to horrible offensive support. His ERA was a misleading 3.6ish because he had a couple horrible starts before being put on the DL with a pulled shoulder muscle or something like that...it was right around 3 that.
On the other hand, until the injury, he was having EASILY his best year as a Pirate as far as performance (not wins and losses) go, so I'd question whether he's able to string another good one together. Consistency was his biggest flaw. He's have a start where he'd give up one run in 7-8 strong innings and then get shelled for 8 runs in 3 innings the next time out. Last year was the first year where he limited the bad outings. -

Azubuike24Yankees not messing around acquiring Michael Pineda from Seattle and signing Hiroki Kuroda.

They traded Montero for Pineda, which is a big trade as both are huge blue chip prospects. Kind of surprised the Yankees parted with him as he was one of their best prospects.Azubuike24;1051639 wrote:Yankees not messing around acquiring Michael Pineda from Seattle and signing Hiroki Kuroda. -
jordo212000a little surprised the Yanks parted with the Golden Boy Montero, but it makes total sense to deal him if you can get Pineda. I'm not sure what the Mariners were thinking. Personally I keep the pitcher, but hey that's why Seattle is Seattle.
If they were dealing anybody, I would have dealt King Felix. You'd get more in return for him and Pineda is a little younger. -
chicago51022 yo pitchers who throw 95 with more Ks than IP > 22yo guys who can rake but can only DH because they suck defensively
Just my opinion, but I think the Yanks won this one slightly only because pitchers are more valuable than DHs. -

Yeah Montero is solid, but no way you give up a potential ace for him -
Laley23The only question is if Pineda can handle NY. If he can, they got a MAJOR steal. Kid has Cy Young type stuff. I saw him go 99, 99, 101, 97, 81 on Miggy Cabrera. Strike looking, foul, foul, ball, swing and a miss. It was ridiculous.

Laley23Victor Martinez is likely to miss the 2012 MLB Season after tearing his ACL in Winter Ball. Tough, tough blow for the Tigers. They need new protection for Miguel now.

As a seattle fan, I hate my fucking life. King felix and pineda were a great one two punch. Now we're going to suck again. -
Ironman92Orlando Cabrera has retired.
Solid major league career. -
IggyPride00Darvish agreed to a deal with the Rangers today that will cost them $113 million over 6 years ($53 posting fee + $60 in salary).
That was thought to be the landing spot for Fielder when it was looking like Darvish wasn't going to sign at one point.
Scott Boras was waiting as he figured if that deal went south that the Rangers would have a ton of money burning a hole in their pocket.
I wonder where he lands now? Boras wants like $230 million, and I just don't see where that is going to come from unless he can con the Nationals again like he did last year with Werth.
He hopefully over played his hand and will get stuck with a shorter term deal on Prince just because I like seeing his hostage negotiation strategies backfire on him. -
Azubuike24Bye bye Joey Votto...this deal amount is insane and seals Votto's fate.

Classyposter58Btw they're first 5 in the lineup would be Jackson-Young-Cabrera-Fielder-Boesch. That's 106 homers and 308 RBI's last year and Young and Boesch didn't play more than 120 games

gorocks99Think they'll DH Cabrera full-time or move him to 3B? He hasn't played 3B since what, 2008? He's put on some pounds in that time too so I'm not sure how appropriate he'll be there.

Cabrera and Prince will rotate at 1B and DH.
2013 will be a different story with Martinez back in the mix. -

Cabrera will be main DH with Fielder at 1st. I imagine Cabrera will switch to 3B against NL teamsgorocks99;1064389 wrote:Think they'll DH Cabrera full-time or move him to 3B?
