If he comes back at 100%.

....certainly worth a flyer. Minor league contract pending a physical. The guy knows how to pitch...the question is can he be effective coming off shoulder surgery.

great bargain! I feel like we just went on a shopping spree at big lots.

    New team slogan....

CLEVELAND: "Where players come to rehab"
  • TBone14
We got Jon Garland! This is a huge signing.

In all seriousness, I guess this is a decent move. Low risk but I don't see much reward. I have basically no expectations from his so if he gives us anything I will be pleasantly surprised.

Garland was a good move....really good if he comes back to where he was before his injury.

In other news, Oakland signs Cespdes. That's OAKLAND of all teams! Unfuckingbelievable....

For only 9 million a year as well. Wouldve much rather him in center than Grady. Ugh.

Remove the 5 we are paying Grady and its really only 4 million more. This whole offseason has blew.

Tribe has joined the talks with the Yanks regarding AJ Burnett. Source says it involves AJ for Pronk. PLEASE let this happen! PLEASE! This coming from a guy who doesnt think Burnett is more than a #4 starter lol. This would be an amazing trade for them, especially if Yanks paid some salary.

Other teams are Pirates and Angels.

Where is this information coming from? Burnett in Yankee Stadium was never a good fit. I would take him.

OAKLAND PLAYS "MONEYBALL"...CLEVELAND PLAYS "NO MONEYBALL"
    This whole offseason has blew
I had some hopes after last season. This off season has dashed them. I don't think we can count on another 30-15 start again this year to keep things interesting.

How long is Burnett's contract? I would love to move Hafner if possible, but we are 1 year away from getting out from under his contract. Does Burnett's go past this year?

This year and next. From what I've heard, Pirates are the frontrunners and people think that's what will happen, but there could be stalling points to give other teams a shot at him. First, the Pirates are offering to pay $10 million of his contract and the Yanks want it to be more like $13+. Second, the Pirates are giving two blah prospects, so if they can get more goods along with money, they could go that way.

NBC Sports @NBCSports Good for both? “@HardballTalk: Yankees-Indians are talking about an A.J. Burnett for Travis Hafner deal dlvr.it/1C7fyJ #mlb #hbt”

    Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS
Yankees/indians talk revolves around aj and travis hafner. cleve unsure it would do that swap. yanks also don't mind the FA DH options

Please let that happen I think he will have a big bounce back year. The pressure would be off of Burnett leaving ny. And we get rid of Hefner that's a plus in itself lol
  • Crimson streak
It could also pave the way for manny to come back also. From all reports manny has been working hard in the offseason and is motivated.

I doubt we beat the Pirates for Burnett. They are motivated to get a pitcher. Hell they offered Edwin Jackson 3 years and 30 million. Our Tribe can't compete with these big market teams like Pittsburgh. Bucs will make the deal happen.

How many starting pitchers do we need?

I'm all for trading Pronk, but starting pitching is hardly the problem at this point. We've got Masterson, Jimenez, and Tomlin. All we need is 2 out of Lowe, Garland, Slowey, Gomez, Huff, Talbot, etc. to pan out. Plus Carrasco will return eventually, Fausto might come back at some point (hopefully not but who knows).

I'd much rather go after something other than a starter, especially when it involves trading one of the few left-handed bats we have.

I think I saw in one of the links that in any prospective deal the Yankees will be eating something like $17-20 of the $30 million Burnett is due over the next 2 seasons.

Let's assume that is true, that means we have Burnett on the payroll at $6 million the next 2 years.

That would alone be the single biggest financial commitment as far as yearly salary made by the Indians this off-season if I am not mistaken.

I want Hafner's deal off the books and nothing new coming on at the end of this season until we can see where we are at.

The purse strings are so tight with Big Daddy Smallbucks Dolan that $5 million dollar transactions are a big deal.
  • wes_mantooth
I am pretty blah on the trade...trading a scrub for another scrub...whatever.
  • HitsRus
Just being able to get something of value for Hafner, and not having it be a salary dump alone should be enough to make Indian fans salivate. It would be just our luck, to make the trade, only to watch Pronk find his stroke again. LOL.

I'm not worried about it being a starter, as long as some can be stashed in Columbus. I'm of the school that you can never have enough pitching....and if you find you actually have too much, there is always somebody looking for some, so it's easy to find a taker.
  • Footwedge
Do not want AJ Burnett. Cannot stand him.
  • OQB
Don't worry, if this trade does go down expect Burnett to have a sub .500 record and Pronk to have a career year.....we all know it's going to happen.

    This offseason blows.

You had me until there. Not sure if your were being sarcastic or not considering all we have are left-handed bats.

And I don't see much point in spectulating about Burnett. The Pirates are involved. They always get their man.
