Opinions on Thome coming back to Cleveland

  • wes_mantooth
There was rumors that Thome would use his no trade clause to stay away from Cleveland...but that turned out to be untrue. Since it is a done deal, what is everyone's opinions on him? He isn't going to help much and the team is pretty much done. I am more curious to see if everyone is welcoming him back with open arms...or is everyone still pissed and bitter?

I am not as excited as I was when Lofton came back, but that might have to do with the free fall the team has taken lately.

Wish it was done a week ago. They need to get to 4 games by the time the Tigers come to town. He can't be any worse than Hafner

I never understood any of the anger towards him. The Indians couldn't match what Philly gave him. He accepted a better job offer which is something we have all done. Can't blame a man.

I will stand and clap for him.

A class guy who can finish where he started his HOF career.

I am so happy he's back.

I always liked Thome, but am apathetic about his return---besides, he'll prolly end up hurt like the rest of the team anyway

A line in the CBS story, LOL

On a side note, Twins president Dave St. Peter tweeted that Jim Thome Wind-Up Walker Night -- seriously, set for Friday night in Target Field as the Twins host Detroit -- will go on as scheduled

Too little too late. PR move, don't care that he's back.

I was at an Indians/Twins game 2 weeks ago and when Thome came to bat there were a lot of cheers. Im sure he will be welcomed back.

Thome made a mistake at the time he was shopping himself by talking up staying in Cleveland. He should have just kept quiet so people didn't get their hopes up for a big enough "home town" discount that he could have been re-signed.

Fact is: I've read since then that the Indians put their bid in hoping it wouldn't be the highest or that Thome wouldn't accept it -- being the cheap ass owner that Dolan is, I don't doubt this.

I would love to see Thome finish out his career in Cleveland and it would be nice to see him wearing an Indians hat when he gets inducted into the HOF in the future.

Im pretty pumped. Hopefully they can work out a 1 year contract for next year and have him retire after that. Id love for Thome to be our DH over Hafner.

As pissed as I was at him when he left, (the way he did it) I'm happy he's back where he always belonged. I think the fans will show him that tonight as well.

And there was never a doubt what uni he would where when he goes into the HoF. It wouldn't have mattered if he came back or not. But this makes it better.

Love Thome. Seems like a little late IMO. Tribe has to turn it around big time.

Originally I was disappointed and angry that he left, but I have said many times in the past that not uncoincidentally, Dolan has a history of coming in second place when it comes to free agents.

I am excited to have him back. He may not be 'enough' to help the team win the division, but bringing him back is just good karma. The guy will go into the HOF as an Indian, and allowing him to come back and finish his career here, and right all the bad feelings is good and appropriate. The guy is a class act, and has been a great ball player.

it was mentioned he will be in the front office when he hangs it up.

I'm glad he's back. Does it really help us? Maybe just in the fact that he brings some pop to the line up, but outside of that, not really.

I'm just glad to see the guy wear a Tribe uni 1 last time. Now if only I had a time machine...

I'm sure the Jake will be rocking tonight with Thomes return hopefully the players feed off it

Not a huge Thome fan but hopefully he hits a screaming HR that hits Kenny Roda square in the nuts...

Quoted for muthafukin truth! Knr is unbearable anymore

Since he left, I consider him one of the biggest traitors of all-time. However, I can accept this great PR move. More of me is in favor. Hopefully, he can help.
