Public Poll on the Tribe trade for Ubaldo
-
BRFOK, guys, let's just put your vote in and line up the sides on this one.
You all know that I was not in favor of the trade and have a problem giving up White, let alone Pomeranz. I wanted another outfield bat. Not sure about Fukodome, but that helped a little bit.
I hope the trade works out well, though.
Fire away. -
bases_loadedwheres the fucking poll

BRFIt is f-ing up! If you ever created one, you would know that the original post comes up first, then you have to create the poll.
But you get an A+ for being "Jhonny" on the spot and point that out, Big Guy! -
BRFIn case you don't know, and I don't mean to insult anyone's intelligence, to see the list of the OC Chatterers who have made their stance........after you vote.........click on one of the little blue numbers that show the results!

hoops23For it. Balls to the wall for the next 2 to 3 years. Tired of keeping prospects who bust all over themselves.
-
HitsRusI'm not really against the trade, because it is pretty tough to trade for a potential ace. What bothers me is that if they paid a premium in prospects, but waited so late.
-
wes_mantoothmixed feelings...
I think they gave up way too much, but I was actually happy that they went "all in" on a trade. -

I voted "against it" but I had no issue about going "all in"....just not for THIS guy. Gave up way too much, imo. We already have a "Fausto Carmona" on this staff. -

When fausto is good he's great. Imagine how nasty the rotation will be if those two get it going. Something that can happen this year where as the prospects are still a year or two away and can only hope to be as dominate. -
wes_mantoothI just feel like they could have addressed a bigger need if they were willing to give up top level prospects......like getting Hunter Pence.
-
assumptionThere is a reason other clubs declined to pursue him. Could it be he lost velocity? It has been rumored.

BINGO ! But I wouldn't have given up the same package for Pence. -
royal_kI was against this trade from the beginning. I thought giving up 2 number 1 draft picks ( top 2 pitching prospects) and 2 other players was too steep for a pitcher that has been very inconsistant over the last year. Jiminez could turn out to be an ace for the next couple years, and would give the Tribe a great 1-2 with Masterson. But White and Pomeranz could both turn out to be number 1's or top of the rotation pitchers. IMO, they will. It's a trade that will take time to gauge. And has been mentioned, a top flight RH stick is what was needed. They should have addressed that.
*edit...I would also say after watching Jiminez's first start, he has some of the best stuff I've seen this year. (Command was off) -
THE4RINGZI voted "against" because I know it pisses BRF off when we agree on something.

yeah...I think so. All the baseball insiders were tweeting that there was a chance the trade would fall through because he would fail his physical....so arm problems must have been a concern -
Crimson streakI'm for it. I hated giving away drew and white but they are prospects. Ubaldo is the real deal and this move wasn't just for this year it was for the future also. As for his velocity being down well if 98 is down then I'm ok with that
-
royal_kYeah, his velocity was fine in his first start. He started the season with groin and thumb injuries. That lead to his velocity being down. It has been coming back and is getting close to what it was last year.

also, it had a lot to do with how much money he is being paid for the next few years....he is a steal if he becomes an ace. Money is always top priority with the Dolans. -

A lot of "if's" and "can's"....I hope I'm completely wrong about this and Jimenez becomes a consistent 18+ game winner but I'm inclined to believe he'll be more like the inconsistent Carmona with his "up & down flashes of brilliance."
Now I know that prospects are just that, "prospects" but I think they overpaid for a sub-.500 career pitcher. -

Prospects are nothing but ifs. -

LOL, exactly.. Especially when one of them (Alex White) already has the same finger injury that derailed the other can't miss prospects career, and I'm talking about Adam Miller...
Ubaldo has an ERA of 2. whatever on the road this season. It was 5 something at Colorado...
Since June 1st, he went 6-4 with a 3.10 ERA.
I expected him to start shaky against the Rangers.. First start for a new team with added pressure. But damn did he settle in. Once he got into a groove, he made that Texas lineup look foolish. His stuff is amazing. -

And that's why I'm for the trade. Too many times pitching prospects fail to pan out.

“Here’s the thing,” the scout said Friday. “If you have a chance to get a known quantity, someone who has been there and done that, you do it. Do you understand?” -
Con_AlmaThis trade hasn't hurt nor helped the team for this year's playoff run. The urgency wrapped around so many conversations this time of year makes it interesting to me that what will make this a good or bad trade has nothing to do with this year.
