The way people in this thread are describing White and Pomeranz as "prospects" makes it seem like they're A ball players who might never make the big leagues, when reality is White already MADE the show (and pitched very well in his few starts before getting hurt) after obliterating AA and AAA, and Pomeranz has done the same at A and AA ball and could get called up by the end of the season, even though he was just drafted under a year ago.

And just to copy paste my feelings on Ubaldo from the Tribe/Rangers topic...

Ubaldo might be a "sure thing" as a major league pitcher, but not as an ace. Outside of one-half of a season, the guy has looked like nothing close to a #1 starter. Aside from his 15-1 mark to begin last year, he has a career record of 41-44 and a career era of 3.95. He has great stuff that he throws very inconsistently, and has been a good, but not great, pitcher for his career.

And by the way, career splits:

    Home: 30-19, 3.67 era
    Away: 26-26, 3.71 era

So the Coor's Field argument is irrelevant too.

It appears as though "For" and "Mixed" are making a strong showing today.

I thought giving up 2 number 1 draft picks ( top 2 pitching prospects) and 2 other players was too steep for a pitcher that has been very inconsistant over the last year. Jiminez could turn out to be an ace for the next couple years, and would give the Tribe a great 1-2 with Masterson. But White and Pomeranz could both turn out to be number 1's or top of the rotation pitchers. IMO, they will. It's a trade that will take time to gauge. And has been mentioned, a top flight RH stick is what was needed. They should have addressed that.

*edit...I would also say after watching Jiminez's first start, he has some of the best stuff I've seen this year. (Command was off)

His command wasn't off at all...at least not for him. He has a career 4 walks per nine innings.

My sentiments exactly. To further debunk the Coors field argument...Ubaldo had a 4.5 ERA this year...whereby the combined ERA for the entire Rocky staff is 4.28. The more I think about this trade, the less and less I like it. I would not have traded White for this guy straight up.

White is no longer a prospect...he got it done when asked to pitch at the major league level. If you compare Ubaldo's first season to White's start, Ubaldo is not in the same class as White.

Lol white pitched 3 games give me break he's still a prospect. Look at zack duke tge dude won his first eight games for the pirates look where he's at now.

and by your logic, Ubaldo is still a prospect.

Yeah, I knew he had walk issues. I guess the better way of saying it would be his lack of being consistent.

Looks like the winner is "against the trade". However, I'll bet we all were pretty happy about the last outing.
  • BRF
Anyone want to change their vote? I'll stick with mine.
  • Crimson streak
I'll still stick with for it. He still signed for 2 years. He will be alright

    Wrong thread

Yes, I would like to change it to STRONGLY against.

A prospect is someone who has never pitched in the majors. Ubaldo's future looks to be in Columbus...where he belongs. This was a horrible trade....period.

?? You want 2 full years of that garbage?
  • Crimson streak
He had 3 bad starts I'm not writing off on him yet. He has some things to work on in the offseason and I'm confident that he will be our number 2 starter behind masterson. As for white yes he's still a prospect 3 starts doesn't mean shit. As for you, you only show up when the tribe are losing or when Ubaldo has a bad start. Your shit is getting old, where were you the last tigers series when he pitched good? No where to be found would be my guess. So seriously Stfu your not even a true tribe fan so do us all a favor and Gtfo.
  • BRF
Before it gets "ON!"...let me just say I understand both sides. And let's be "cool" about this.

You are sooo wrong it defies description. Nobody here is a bigger tribe fan than ME . Been a listening tribe fan since the day of Rocky Colavito....when Jimmy Dudley was doing the play by play. I didn't like the trade because of Ubaldo's career numbers...very mediocre at best. Look them up. And I've been posting on all Cleveland boards here for a long time. I would say that if anyone needs to GTFO....it is you.

BRF....I'm supposedly the bad guy here because Ubaldo has been simply awful. My new national league team is the Colorado Rockies.
  • BRF
Footwedge: I always enjoy reading your points and agree with many. You don't have to prove to BRF that you are a Tribe stalwart!
  • Crimson streak
I have no problem with people not liking the trade. But you take it to the extreme to only show up when the tribe are losing. I didn't like the trade at first but it grew on me bc it meant the front office was actually doing something and trying to win. They gave up unproven players for a guy who was a cy young candidate that is locked up 2 more years and is relatively young.
